TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Kyber enhanced sniper rifle
  • Size: Large
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: artificial micro-singularity
  • Ammunition Capacity: Average
  • Effective Range: Battlefield

  • Recoil: Average
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Kyber crystal central power focuser
  • Large high discharge rate power cells
  • Electromagnetic rails
  • Targeting computer that can be integrated into droid brain or scope
STRENGTHS
  • Massive penetration capability - The singularity launched is difficult to stop and can bypass many shield types and hardened armours. There has even been occasions where the singularity has passed through a light saber plasma blade, briefly making the blade appear to snap due to the gravitational effect on the light, but this was in test conditions against a fixed saber, and proved difficult to replicate under realistic conditions.
  • Very little time to target - The velocity of the rifle is consistent with many high performance sniper rifles, meaning that only limited adjustments for projectile travel time is required.
WEAKNESSES
  • Very little explosive power - the singularity typically passes in one side and out the other leaving a perfect hole a couple of inches wide through the target, only against extremely resistant targets where the singularity is stopped and its kinetic energy unleashed is their any blast, and even then the explosive force is minimal.
  • Force imbued projectiles - the Kyber crystal, by its very nature imparts a small amount of the Hei's connection to the force into the firing of every projectile. The downside of this is that the charging and firing can be sensed by force users, giving them that moments warning that they need to evade the shot. This makes ambush shots on otherwise undistracted force users very difficult to achieve
  • Cannot ignore elevation - time to target and wind effects are not a factor, but as the projectile is a gravitational singularity rather than a blast of energy, it is as effected by elevation as a solid slug would be, in some cases more so in particularly strong magnetic field.
  • Requires specialist power cells - the power cells have to have an extremely high maximum discharge rate to power the accelerator rails, they must also be compatible with the Kyber crystal focussing for singularity generation. Anything other than the power packs specifically designed for the weapon will not work without completely reconfiguring the weapon and the power pack.
  • Risky to handle - the weapon briefly holds a singularity protected only by an electromagnetic field, it would be easy to lose hand if careless
DESCRIPTION

This rifle, designed to the specifications of jedi Hei Sogecki uses a Kyber crystal, taken from his old light saber, focus the power through two probes into a micro-singularity. On the pull of the trigger, the singularity is accelerated along two high power electromagnetic rails toward the target, the gun makes a humming sound as it charges and a crack as the singularity accelerates past the sound barrier and leaves the confines of the rifle.

It is incredibly accurate and has huge amounts of penetration, allowing confirmed kills at extreme range.

The connection between Hei Sogecki and his kyber crystal allows him to be one with the rifle and use it as an extension of himself in the same way a traditionalist is connected to their saber.

Alright it has been a couple days of talks about this to how to approach it. Lets start with the first few things. Kyber enhancement of a weapon is fine everyone at this point does it. The main issue that kept coming up was how it barely seems able to be blocked, rapid fires and its weaknesses are less for balance and more for fluff. There is no resource limit so power cells are infinite and since it can fire off several without much need to charge elevation means little. This is not balanced for a situation and first instinct is to deny outright as the level of modification to balance it will alter the rifle into something that would be a fair weapon to be used cause this screams reports for it.

We will start with the easiest way to getting this approved
STRENGTHS

  • Massive penetration capability - The singularity launched is difficult to stop and will bypass may shield types and hardened armours. There has even been occasions where the singularity has passed through a light saber plasma blade, briefly making the blade appear to snap due to the gravitational effect on the light, but this was in test conditions against a fixed saber.
  • Very little time to target - The velocity of the rifle is such that the user can essentially ignore time to target and wind effect
  • Force imbued projectiles - whilst they are only sustained for seconds, the Kyber crystal imbues the singularity with the force, allowing a Hei to manipulate the projectile over its short flight.

YOu have three powerful strengths, pick one to keep. I would honestly recommend kyber not as the means to shoot but to boost the power for the rifle so you can get a stronger shot like with the finalizer.

Three of these barely factor in and read more as fluff instead of something to balance. For substantially powerful strengths the weaknesses should balance it and give something that works like a draw back. The more powerful the shot the slower the rate of fire as an example. There will need to be at least 3 weaknesses for each strength that can play a factor in an rp. Not just be something to fluff it out.

Thank you for your time on this, Is there a time limit on my edits and changes as I am going to do a fairly substantial rebuild. This was never intended as a PVP item so I didnt factor that in enough. I can certainly agree with your reasoning for rejecting it because of potential for abuse, regardless of intent.

I have made some adjustments, I hope they are enough to make the gun acceptable.
  • dropped rate of fire two steps from high to low
    • I initially used the spreadsheet to come up with the stats but didn't consider it in line with other strengths
  • changed the text from "will bypass many shield types" to "can bypass many shield types"
    • subtle change but "will" is too definite and removes a degree of target decision
  • I have added a note that the lightsaber bypassing effect is difficult to replicate in realistic conditions
    • I feel like this allows the target to totally justify blocking it, but still gives the cool breaking effect potential if they choose or if I want to use it in pve
  • Reduced description of flight time speed
    • It is meant to be a high performance sniper rifle so good projectile velocity seems almost a given, this new wording still implies some lead time required though and I have removed the wind ignoring text.
  • Removed force projectile manipulation
    • the gun just doesn't need trick shots and it was me getting a bit over excited story wise
  • I have rearranged the order of the weaknesses so the proper weaknesses come ahead of the ones you consider fluff weaknesses
    • purely for organisation purposes
  • added additional pvp weakness that force users can detect its firing
    • this basically removes my ability to sneak up and headshot a force user while they are stationary and unaware, and if they are distracted in a moving battle then the target can quite easily have me miss anyway. I accept that this is a situational weakness but I feel it is a significant one against a Jedi's favoured foe.
  • Changed the the last paragraph in the description to make the Hei-crystal-gun connection more fluffy and less mechanically beneficial
    • The crystal is only in the gun as a form of closure that he is no longer a lightsaber jedi, so I have removed unnecessary mechanical benefits.

So that is a lot to go over, but I hope this works. I understand that this might not be the final word as the gun is significantly overpowered for PVP in the state I initially submitted it, but I hope this shows that I have moved in the right direction whilst keeping the 'feel' of the gun in the realm that I initially planned.

As I said one of the three strengths and 3 substantial weaknesses for it that are not fluff.

Your reasoning is different as if you want a high powered sniper rifle kyber enhancement alone would make the shot powerful. Firing a black hole is redundant and shouldn't have the same speed as a blaster bolt or slug. A singularity being fired can be devastating and slower moving so that it can build up by the time it reaches its target. IF you want to make a high powered sniper rifle then make one but a blackhole rifle is a tough sell on its own when it is a heavy weapon... as a rifle with huge range and little to stop it there is going to be a drastic amount of changes required.

From what I am understanding the biggest issue is the fact that it is a singularity? I think we have different pictures in our head what the performance i am intending, which is fine as that is what this process is for.

My aim is to have something akin to the real world Barrett m82 anti-material rifle in terms of characteristics, the fact that it was a microsingularity was a fluff choice because i thought it was cool and fit the artwork on the character.

If that is the main problem though, would dropping it and making the projecticle something less exotic make this easier? I am struggling to come up with legitimate weaknesses that make sense if I am requiring 3:1 ratio of weaknesses to strengths.
