- Universal: Thanks to its HoloNet connectivity, the Kōtsū 64 has virtually unlimited possibilities for additional content and functions due to third party sources creating new applications for users to download onto the device. Already coming with almost one hundred default applications of varying purposes and functions, the sky is the limit when it comes to consumer choice for the K64, as its impressive storage space allows for as many games, films and other content as the user desires to be installed.
- Secure: Unlike its predecessors, the K64 comes pre-built with sophisticated encryption nodes and digital counter-measure systems that reach the peak of the civilian communications market. Ensuring that the user's personal storage and information remains secure from your average street splicer. The option to Gene Lock the device adds an additional layer of physical security, as now only the user's unique genetic profile can unlock the ComLink for use.
- Connectivity: Powered by strong miniaturized holotransmitters and receivers previously restricted to larger-scale communications devices in years now fortunately past, the Kōtsū 64 is capable of making and receiving real-time, high-quality calls from anywhere in the galaxy to anywhere else in the galaxy. The K64 is also able to guarantee a fast, stable and reliable connection to the HoloNet so long as at least one relay is in-orbit.
- Smart: With a built-in virtual intelligence equipped with a voice of the user's choosing known affectionately as Kenji, the K64 is smart in two ways; the first being in its ability to respond vocally or in text to user inquiries on almost infinite subjects, though not actual artificial intelligence, it is cleverly designed to seem as such to the layman. In the second way it is smart in its ability to wirelessly connect to most- if not all kinds of electronics, including starship systems, home systems and other civilian appliances to act as a convenient control panel.
WEAKNESSES
- Fragile: LDue to its transparent nature, the K64 is a somewhat fragile device. Able to be cracked from drops, or broken from other hits or accidents. GalactiCom recommends purchasing a cover for your K64 to increase its survivability, without such a cover the comlink will not be able to withstand many hard hits or falls.
- Lifespan: It has been rumored for years now that Kōtsū ComLinks are specifically engineered to degrade as the years go on, with the theory going that it is to pressure customers into purchasing the latest model and to discourage from keeping the same ComLink for too long. Although GalactiCom has never commented on this, it appears to be the case with the K64, and within a year many users will most likely be lining up for the K65's release.
The direct successor to the Kōtsū 63 ComLink which was released the year prior, the Kōtsū 64 or K64 is the latest model in the series of personal civilian comterminals, the word used to describe the product frequently as it is a combination between traditional call-only Comlinks and the HoloNet connectivity of terminals. Released to great fanfare much like every entry in the series is, the K64 offers a number of technical improvements to previously existing features, namely in its security and connectivity. Though in many ways it remains unchanged from the previous model, something it is often criticized for by the more interested individuals in the tech world, for the average person these issues don't appear to matter and as such the series continues to sell more and more devices with each passing year. A strictly civilian device, it has been said that some undesirable parties will modify their devices for use in more illegal ways, or for use in more paramilitary type applications.
