PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Sealed Chassis: The Medicus is designed to work in somewhat rougher environments than the typical medical droid, particularly on starships and forward exploratory bases. To that end, it uses easy to repair and sterilize plasteel plates, while all of its wires and joints are covered with Defensa Textile. This effective seals the droid's internal components from the outside environment.
  • Advanced Diagnostic Suite: With an emergency medicine focus, the Medicus focuses extensively on correctly diagnosing the patient, and thus has a fairly advanced medical diagnostic sensors designed to quickly give Medicus a comprehensive understanding of the patient's condition. Medicus can find broken bones and see organ damage with its Doppraymagno scanner. Fingertip ultrasounders allow the droid to evaluate pregnancies and check blood vessel patency while ausculators allow the droid to listen to hearts and bowel sounds. The droid can even directly analyze a blood sample for chemical imbalances or the presence of toxins.
  • Subject Matter Expert (Emergency Medicine): With all of this information at its fingertips, the Medicus runs the gathered information found by its sensors, questions from the patients, and past medical records through its Medical Diagnostic Computer - sifting data through various algorhythms along with the droid's past experiences to find the most likely diagnosis and possible solutions to the problem. Most of the Medicus's default information is tailored on emergency medicine - allowing the droid to quickly stabilize patients of dozens of common species to the point where they are either cured or stabilized enough to be transferred to a more advanced specialist. The droid does have knowledge cannisters which allow it to quickly become up to date with other species or skill sets that it does not have by default, making it one of the more adaptable medical droids on the market. Furthermore, its computer interface tether could theoretically link the droid to extremely extensive computer databases, making it almost a consummate on almost any medical matter.
  • Built-in Tools: Medicus comes with a wide assortment of tools already built into its body, making its ability to treat many maladies extremely quick and convenient in many instances. The droid can just as easily create an incision with the touch of a finger-tip concealed scalpel as close it up with a Autosuture deployer while its Health Generator can project an antisepsis field, enhance normal healing rate, or restart a heart. Its medicine dispenser holds a number of commonly needed medicines including bacta for ease of treatment. Hypodermic injectors in its forearm can hold already prepared medicines or even be directly to its onboard medicine synthesizers.
  • Medicine Synthesizer: Unlike many medical droids, the Medicus has both an enzymer and a synthe-nutrient replicator built into it. Combined with its analysis abilities, the droid is capable of crafting precise chemical concoctions to a patient that can correct a nutrient imbalance or neutralize a poison.
  • Knowledge Cartridge Input Slots: The back panel of the droid conceals of a panel of knowledge cartridge slots. This allows the Medicus to receive immediate, additional knowledge on certain subjects that they might not have experience, but which is necessary to treat a patient. Typically these cartridges contain information on uncommonly encountered species or specialty fields that normally beyond the droid's typical knowledge base or training. While they do not truly bring the Medicus up to the standards of an expert in those fields, it is often significantly better than no knowledge or evidence-based treatment at all, especially in the more remote regions in which the droid is intended to operate.
STRENGTHS
  • Evaluator: Medicus's are fairly skilled evaluators, being able to quickly find the cause of most maladies thanks to their indepth knowledge and extensive diagnostic sensors.
  • A Tool for Every Job: The Medicus has a great number of tools built into it, giving a wide versatility in treating patients. It can also use medical tools used by organic providers.

WEAKNESSES
  • Flighty: Despite its impressive multi-tasking abilities, Medicus do not react to situations that interrupt their control of the immediate environment - such as environmental emergencies or combat - because such experiences drastically increase the number of variables that the droid feels like it needs to account for when treating a patient. Its performance significantly becomes worse in such situations, and overwhelmed Medicus's might even flee from the scene.
  • Poor Combatant: The Medicus not designed for combat, having no weapons or any combat programming by default.
DESCRIPTION
While organic physicians and healthcare providers are never likely fully go away, there are times and situations where Class One medical droids are exceptionally competitive against their organic peers. The Medicus is designed particularly to be a cost-effective, long-term alternative to stationing a full-fledged physician on a starship or remote base - where the payroll overhead of an organic typically is cost prohibitive but possibility of danger and the peace of mind that comes with a physician's presence is at least worth thousands of credits.

Covered in neutral, sterile-looking white plasteel, the Medicus looks fairly benign and unimpressive at first glance. However, the bulky chassis conceals a host of medical sensors and tools which are integrated through a well-programmed heuristic processor to become a sum greater than its parts. The droid is fully capable of running most common diagnostic tests by itself without the need for outside resources. Its detailed medical diagnosis computer can call upon the aid of specialized knowledge cartridges or hook up to computers for additional insight on particularly troublesome cases. And when the seconds count, the droid can simply pull out a wide variety of tools from its body to immediate start treating a patient. Perhaps its most impressive feature, due in large part to company's subsidiary Lucerne Biological Systems, is the ability to synthesize chemical solutions tailored specific patients and their conditions in a matter of seconds. Unsurprisingly, this greatly aids in the droid's ability to quickly stabilize patients.

Originally designed to be sold with some of the company's larger starships, Lucerne Labs has also found a good market in selling the droids to colony and scout expeditions as well as to corporations with their own inhouse medical teams - the same emergency medicine abilities that make the droid excellent on starships and exotic worlds are just as useful in responding to worksite injuries and common maladies of a Core World factory. The company has also donated a good number of units to causes and poorer worlds that have attracted the eye of the company's elite.
