SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Advanced Navigation Suite: L2-R8 as a fairly solid astrogation buffer that holds 20 jump coordinates. However, unlike most other astromech droids, L2-R8 comes with a fairly advanced micro-processing module that cross-references with the droid sensorscope (and any starship sensors the droid has access to) and the stored coordinates in the astrogation buffer to act like a hyperspace compass. This allows L2-R8 to reorient its location and suggest the most viable path forward, making it useful in instances where its ship might get "lost", especially if the starship is involved in scouting operations. Caltin can use this ability to help chart hyperlanes of his own.
  • Repair Suite: Like most astromech droids, L2-R8 is a fairly skilled starship mechanic with an assortment of retractable tool arms and a technical manual package database with several hundred common vessels to provide it with guidance in performing starship repairs and maintenance. Taking cue from the classic Treadwell repair droids, these tool arms are all modular and easily swapped out for other tools if Caltin so desires. Its automated repair upgrade package means that the droid can even swap them out itself without any work byCaltin. Naturally, this upgrade also means that the owner doesn't actually need to get involved with the maintenance of the droid if he doesn't want to either - making the droid relatively low maintenance.
  • Knowledge Cartridge Input Slots: The "back pack" of the droid has a pair of slots into which knowledge cartridges can be easily inserted. This allows Caltin to quickly give the droid new skills or knowledge with very little time and work. Common knowledge cartridges include those that contain technical data packages for certain ships or certain military/cultural protocol packages to more easily embed them into those organizations. Skill cartridges vary a lot more widely depending on an owner's taste, but starship gunnery and slicing skill cartridges are among the most common.
  • Cooking Assistant: The Cooking with Caltin holoseries has brought a certain amount of fame and goodwill to the jedi master, but as any cook can tell you, it's not easy preparing many meals for a large crowd. To that end, Lucerne Labs sought to make L2-R8 a capable culinary assistant, giving it a substantial databank of cooking skills and recipes to draw upon to help it cook alongside the man, which the company speculates might allow the big man to make elaborate main dishes while regulating the droid to make a large number of basic side dishes. Additionally, L2-R8 comes with a food analyzer, allowing the droid to go out and purchase/inspect ingredients before delivering them to its master, as well as a food synthesizer, which allows the droid to make up a number of ingredients on the fly for Caltin in case they somehow can't be found in time or if they are short a number of them.
  • Combat Upgrades: The big man is not known staying in the rear when it comes to combat. With that in mind, Lucerne Labs made a number of upgrades to make L2-R8 more capable of accompanying his master into the fray. The foremost among these was making a custom beskar armor chassis and giving it its own shield generator, making it very durable against many battlefield threats and dangers. The spark projector of the original L2 Navigator was replaced with a much more potent and versatile static blaster to help it hold its own on the battlefield. Additionally, the company gave it an auditory dampener, to make its movements less likely to give away the jedi's position if moving around with the master during infiltrations.
STRENGTHS
  • Co-pilot: Like most astromechs, L2-R8 is a fairly adept co-pilot - capable of landing and taxiing the craft if necessary, providing navigational data, and optimizing system performance while in-flight. Unlike most astromechs, L2-R8 can can actually help plot new routes through its unusual micro-processor subroutine.
  • Mechanic: L2-R8 has a fairly decent array of tools which combined with a database for fixing common systems (including specific knowledge of Caltin's ships), makes it fairly decent at providing in-flight repairs or performing common maintenance. Additionally, L2-R8 is fairly adept at learning the specifics of most craft and systems with experience as well that he might encounter in the future, which can be jump-started by using knowledge cartridges to gain specific knowledge.
  • Survivalist: L2-R8 was designed specifically in mind to work for military pilots and scouts in austere environments, and thus has some unusual features for an astromech. Aside from its ability to help chart new hyperroutes, it has the ability to largely repair itself damaged. The inclusion of a static blaster, advanced combat programming, and personal shielding also makes L2-R8 fairly capable of fighting off would be criminals and dangerous animals alike.
  • Resistant (Kinetic Weapons): L2-R8's heavy beskar plating makes it fairly resistant to many slugthrowers, melee weapons, and other projectiles.
  • Resistant (Energy Weapons): L2-R8's heavy beskar plating and Myntor shield makes it pretty resistant to most common energy weapons found on the battlefield.
  • Resistant (Lightsabers): L2-R8's heavy beskar plating and shielding makes it somewhat resistant to lightsabers and similar weapons.
  • Resistant (EMP/Ion Weapons): L2-R8 comes with an ionization buffer, which allows it to better resist things like ion weapons, DEMP guns, or ionic/EMP demolitions.
WEAKNESSES
  • Binary Only: Like most other astromechs, the L2-R8 only communicates in binary, making it difficult for him to communicate with the average person.
  • Heavy: Despite being the size of the classic R2 unit, L2-R8 is quite heavy due to his beskar construction, which can sometimes make manhandling him by typical systems or organics or holding him up with bridges or cranes a little bit more difficult.
DESCRIPTION
While many live quiet lives content to dwell in the background, some individuals distinguish themselves in the galaxy through their actions. Jedi Master Vanagor is one of the latter, who has not only fought evil in the galaxy on the frontlines, but who has also engaged in substantial humanitarian work. Seeking to recognize the man's achievements, Lucerne Labs customized one of their L2 Navigator-series Astromech Droids to make Caltin's life easier whether he was piloting a starfighter in combat or making another production of Cooking with Caltin. To that end, the company made some substantial changes to the droid to make it better capable of keeping up with the big guy. To make it more survivable on the battlefield, L2-R8 received a custom forged beskar chassis, a personal shield generator, a static blaster, and a number of refinements. To help Caltin on the humanitarian front, L2-R8 received a cooking suite to make him a capable assistant for Cooking with Caltin. But try as the company might, Lucerne Labs knew that the big guy would always be evolving and pushing forward himself. With that in mind, they ensured that L2-R8 could make modifications on himself later on to keep up with the big guy, including the necessary software, additional knowledge cartridges, and a number of easily swappable tool arms.
