- Modular Weapons: The Vigil's pair of weapon arms are highly modular, designed to be easily interchanged few a different models which can each support a variety of different weapons from Lucerne Lab's subsidiary, Lucerne Personal Defense. This allows the Vigil to use a fairly wide variety of weapons and ammunition types. This enables the Vigil to be used be precisely tailored for use in certain roles, from air defense with missile launchers to nonlethal internal security with blaster weaponry.
- Manipulator arms: The Vigil has a pair of retractable manipulator arms which allow the droid to reload its arm mounted weapons or make repairs to either itself or the weapons.
- Sentry Sensor Suite: Vigils are designed to be tireless sentries, guarding key points. To that end, they actually have a fairly sophisticated sensor suite that's keyed primarily to detect and then accurately fire on enemies that enter their firing range. In close quarters, this is primarily done through its Target Identification Network, but other sensors, especially its mobile remote viewers provide most of the droid's long-range detection and fire control.
- Heavy Firepower: Vigils typically sport two crew served weapons, making them potent sources of firepower for their small size.
- Durable: Vigils are fairly well protected, sporting thick armor plating, shielding, and sensor jammers to protect itself from a variety of threats.
WEAKNESSES
- Simple Personalities: Vigil isn't particularly sophisticated in its programming - it simply shoots at things within its assigned targeting parameters and notifies allies nearby. This means that it can often be fooled by feints and many more advanced ploys.
- Immobile: Vigils is immobile on its own, often being built into facilities and starships or simply placed into field positions by soldiers. It cannot maneuver out of harms way or chase enemies on its own.
Standing up to the typical human's waist, the Vigil is squat, automated weapons platform that is almost more gun than droid. Its torso swivels around while its "arms" move around independently to aim and fire its built-in weapons, which range from smaller exotic weapons to typically crew-served heavy weapons like blaster cannons and missile launchers. What largely separates the Vigil from being a simply automated weapon to an actual droid is its detection and self-preservation routines. The droid processor's interprets data gathered by its variety of sensors or sent to it by allies to determine which threat it should respond to and how - firing a missile against a varmint creature is wasteful, while attempting to take on a tank with a dart rifle is pointless - it'd be better to try hold its fire and conceal itself instead. Similarly, the droid does have arms which combined with a durability upgrade allow it a limited ability to repair itself or reload its weapons during combat, which is somewhat beyond the self-aiming gun.
Despite these differences, the Vigil does act primarily as a typical sentry gun in actual practice. Vigils are frequently found installed inside key facility and ship hallways to help control them during an incursion - this is how Lucerne Labs itself uses the product internally. However, Vigls can also be deployed outdoors in rough conditions, such as in trenches and other field fortifications, where their high potential volume of fire can help hold back waves of attackers or provide suppressive fire to better enable advances by friendly units. In a galaxy frequently rocked by waves of violence, the Vigil is likely to see a long production run.
