Seasonal Variations |
Laithorl is a tidally locked planet, with half of its surface facing towards the twin suns of Halcyon and Hala, while the other half is facing towards the cold vacuum of space. The sun-facing side is known to experience Firestorms, Sandstroms, and Extreme Temperatures - in contrast, the side facing away from the sun frequently experiences Snowstorms and Blizzards, as well as Extreme Freezing Temperatures. The only exception to this is the thin 'life-zone' between the two hemispheres which maintains a semi-temperate climate. However, weather in this region is prone to Hurricanes and Tornadoes due to the hot-fronts and cold-fronts from the two hemispheres frequently meeting. This region also has a prolonged Monsoon season which is marked with torrential rain, often flooding low-lying regions. |
Tidal-Lock & Gravitational Effects on Laithorl |
As mentioned, Laithorl is a tidal-lock planet in that the planet no longer rotates on its axis - the initial cause of this being the successive collisions with its moon Ehenly and the Rogue Asteroid that resulted in the creation of the geographical feature known as The Chrysanthemum. Additional gravitational effects exerted upon Laithorl from the Twin-Suns Halcyon and Hala, its relative planetary neighbor Khrea and its proximity with the Protostar Phinveos has locked the planet in its current location in which one face remains towards the sun at all times. |

CAPITAL AND URBAN LOCATION DESCRIPTIONS |
Colonial Protectorate Administrative Building |
The Colonial Protectorate Administrative Building - often called 'The Scythe' due to its appearance being similar to that of an MC140 - is the center of all political, economical, and societal advancements on Laithorl as well as serving as the de-facto Capital of the Colonial Government. Situated in the Equitorial Life-Zone, it houses the bulk of administrative and governmental personnel that oversee the colonization efforts of Laithorl, along with a number of Corporate Offices and personnel housing for administrators, executives, and security personnel. The Colonial Protectorate Administrative Building also maintains close ties to Khrea and is capable of dispatching emergency assistance broadcast in the event that its local defense forces are incapable of handling or repelling a threat. It also houses the primary Starport and Customs Agency that oversees the shipment of all exports and receiving of all imports, to and from the surface of the planet. |
Theia Colony |
Situated within the shadow of a mountain range on the Sun-Facing Side of the planet, Theia Colony is the epitome of Colonial Life with the bulk of its populace consistently outproducing other colonies. Though it was constructed in the shadow of a mountain, Theia Colony is still heavily shielded to protect it against such threats as Radiation, Extreme Temperatures, and the environmental conditions present on the Sunward side of Laithorl. Its continued success is thanks to its location above a rich seam of Aurodium and its Colonial Governor - The Twi'lek, Alema Daesha - that can often be found working alongside the Colonist to inspire greater loyalty and pride in an individual's work. Its relative wealth has also seen Theia Colony increase in size consistently over the past four years since its initial founding. |
Juno Terminal |
Constructed in a vast underground chamber that had previously been a magma chamber - Juno Terminal acts as an exploration and surveyor station that utilizes seismic imaging to map out additional underground chambers, channels, and mineral and ore deposits. The structures themselves, which are also utilized to maintain the structural integrity of the chamber house a myriad of laboratories, refineries, and workers housing along with workshops and a few amenities such as a modest cantina. Juno Terminal's purpose is as stated, the surveying of underground networks for resources; its secondary purpose, however, is to test the viability of long-term underground colonies and the effects it has on species that are not adapted or otherwise accustomed to living underground for long periods of time - in the sense of years rather than weeks or months. |
Neptune Station |
Unique in both its construction and the difficulty experienced in its deployment on Laithorl. Neptune Station is situated entirely in a liquid medium within the ice-covered, frozen half of the planet that faces away from the twin Suns of Halcyon and Hala. What makes it even more unique is the complexity of the engineering to ensure that the structure would not face any severe situations and to ensure that the colonist and staff living in Neptune Station would not be exposed to the liquid medium outside of the station. The uniqueness of the location that Neptune Station finds itself within, is that the liquid medium it was constructed in is a combination of Liquid Methane and Ethane. Neptune Station is thus highly engineered to handle the strange liquid medium, with multiple failsafes and backup systems to ensure that the colonist are protected and remain safe as they scour the ocean floors for the wealth that is hidden beneath the waves. |
Aurora Terminus |
Located at what can be considered the exact center of the frozen half of Laithorl, and often devoid of any kind of light beyond the artificial, the Aurora Terminus has taken on a secondary utility outside of its established mining and refining operations. Large sections of the Terminus have been developed and reestablished as a sort of tourist and vacation resort for those species that are more sensitive to Ultra-Violet Radiation or have a predisposition to avoid bright lights in general. These areas of the Aurora Terminus maintain luxurious amenities and cater to their residence - temporary or permanent - that have the privilege to call the Aurora Terminus their home. |
Slate Works Mining Station |
Established in one of the cooler regions of the Sunward facing side of the planet bordering the Equitorial Life Zone; the vast mining complex, which consists of large bore-holes, was established by the Slate Works Mining Consortium. Unlike other mining ventures that are more focused on the procurement of precious gems, minerals, or ores - Slate Works is known for their procurement and refining of top-tier, premium-grade building materials that are often utilized in the construction of a number of buildings, from small family homes to vast region spanning cities that dominate skylines. In similar cases, when a region is fully tapped of its resources, Slate Works is known to utilize the displaced detritus to refill their bore-holes after they've been utilized to dispose of waste before moving onto new locations. |
Science Station Aurek |
Hidden within the glaciers and ice fields of the dark side of the planet, established by a quiet cabal of research cooperatives for their own purposes, Science Station Aurek is utilized to research, catalog, and discover any lost history, artifacts, or items of note that may have otherwise been lost when half of the planet froze and the other half burned. With much of Laithorl remaining unknown, it also seeks to understand the events and cataclysms that the planet faced that ultimately lead to it becoming tidally locked as well as a rich deposit of ores, minerals, and gemstones that are extracted daily. Of course, like any hidden and secretive station, rumors are bound to develop, and Science Station Aurek is no stranger to this - with rumors persisting of its unholy experiments or its use to quiet dissidents of the Ascendancy and The Halcyon Corporation. |
Unitary Defense Laboratories Research Station |
Established on Laithorl due to its lack of populace as a means to ensure the safety and secrecy of the technologies under development within - its placement on Laithorl was also to ensure the prevention of greater loss of life that might have occurred if placed in a more densely populated area. The Unified Defense Laboratories Research Station focuses on designing and developing new weapons - which are often tested on-site without the worry of causing lasting harm or damage to the ecosystem. Likewise, its location is a closely guarded secret, with shipments of material arriving through preapproved and screened freighters to prevent tampering and corporate espionage, as well as to prevent pirates or other similar criminal groups from raiding the location. It is also much more heavily fortified and defended, with its own complement of Security Forces that are often equipped with experimental weaponry produced by the Station. |

MAJOR PLANETARY LOCATION DESCRIPTIONS |
The Blood Sea |
A vast ocean of sand that is broken apart by large islands like rocky outcroppings, its name comes from the crimson-colored sands that have swallowed the region whole. The area is known to have a lower temperature than other locations on the Sunward facing side of the planet, with the colossal shadows of the mesas and rocky outcroppings being used to hide transitory surveyor camps that ply their trade in the region search for mineral deposits or ore veins. The region also hides and protects some of the last surviving flora and fauna that had managed to survive the near-extinction level event that had beset the planet after it was struck by a rogue asteroid. |
The Chrysanthemum |
The evidence that remains - clearly visible from orbit - of a Rogue Asteroid that had previously struct the planet which resulted in a near-extinction level event that resulted in the majority of life on Laithorl being wiped out. It was further suggested and hypothesized that the strike of this rogue asteroid is what destabilized the planet to the point that its rotation was slowed, and eventually caused Laithorl to enter into its current tidally locked position. The region, which was named due to its similarity with a specific flower when viewed from orbit, remains a hotbed of volcanic activity as lava rivers and oceans of lava are broken apart by small basalt and obsidian islands. The region is also known to have higher concentrations of Palladium, Platinum, and Magnesium - likely present on the asteroid that struck the planet - though efforts to secure and exploit these resources are ongoing and facing continuing difficulties. |
Fields of Splendor |
Consisting of a climate and region similar to that of Mustafar, and having been naturally adopted by those Mustafarians that arrived on Laithorl as their new home - the region is known to be one of the richest on Laithorl. Vast concentrations of various minerals and ores have been detected in the area, and large refineries such as those seen on Mustafar have also been constructed and left to the Mustafarians to carefully extract and refine the precious metals and minerals. Its constant flows of lava rivers and oceans make the region all the more perilous, and those that come to the Fields of Splendor to seek their own wealth are often tempting fate and luck each day they stay. |
Equitorial Life Zone |
A thin region exists upon the tidally locked planet of Laithorl between the Sunward facing side of the planet, and the side that is facing towards the stars and vast coldness of space. In this area reside the last vestiges of native flora and fauna as they had existed before the cataclysm that struck the planet. With an alpine-like climate, it is marked by ravines and flowing rivers - populated by sparse forests and woodlands that give way to shrubs and moss-covered rocks, and hidden caverns. The region is also the easiest to populate, not requiring additional specialized structures or shielding for colonies - it is also the location of the Colonial Protectorate Administrative Building, as well as a few other hidden fortresses, research stations, and manufacturing facilities. |
Crystal Channel |
A dangerous region, more so than the lava fields and oceans present in the Fields of Splendor - the Crystal Channel is home to vast, untapped deposits of Liquid Hydrogen, Liquid Methane, and Ammonia. The danger present in the region is enough that many companies and individuals often prefer to avoid the area altogether rather than attempt to brave the dangers to tap these resources or attempt to get at the minerals and ores that may be hidden beneath the region. Only the most stringent and heavily funded operations are capable of maintaining any kind of stability or function - which can be seen in the establishment of Neptune Station in one of the larger oceans of Liquid Methane that is hidden within the Crystal Channel. |
The Canyon of Glaciers |
There are few locations in which an individual can easily traverse from the Equitorial Life Zone into the frozen wastes of Laithorl that do not require a trip via shuttlecraft or transport. This region, known for its large glacial formations and rivers of ice is one such area. As odd as it seems, the region experiences a minor variation in seasons - this is likely due to its proximity to the Equitorial Life Zone. During the warmer months, when hot air rushes over from the Sunward facing side - what passes for Summer - the Glaciers of the Canyon recede enough to make passage easier into the frozen regions beyond. This Summer is often utilized by surveyor teams to quickly traverse through the pass and into the areas beyond to mark out new prospects or locations for additional colonies. These teams are also on the clock, as this Summer often lasts only a few months before the passes freeze again and the glaciers make passing through the area next to impossible. |
Dark Creek Run |
A vast underground system of caverns, cisterns, and oceans; Dark Creek Run is the sole source of consumable freshwater that is tapped, processed, and shipped to the various colonial outposts, stations, and terminals across the planet. With much of the water trapped in its frozen state or being mixed with other caustic chemicals - such as liquid nitrogen or liquid methane - this source remains a closely guarded secret. The area is protected, so much so, that it was granted special status - much like The Old Man of Laithorl - as well as its own Security Defense Force to preserve the freshwater source that keeps many of the colonial ventures alive and thriving. |
The Old Man of Laithorl |
The largest mountain on the planet, given its name due to its apparent stubbornness in surviving a number of cataclysmic events that had previously befallen the planet. The Old Man of Laithorl is also seen as a symbol of the Colonist that seeks to claim the planet as their home; reliable, steady, an ever-constant - colonists have adopted it as a symbol of the planet. In an astonishing agreement between the Colonial Protectorate Administration and the government of Khrea, The Old Man of Laithorl was granted protected status, with the area around the base of the mountain further established as an ecological preserve. Heavy fines and imprisonment are what will greet any individual or corporate entity that would attempt to mine or otherwise exploit any potential resources that may be present within the mountain or its surrounding areas. |

General Planetary Cultural Information |
"Work to Earn the Right to Work" - is a phrase that best describes the cultural and societal impact of the Corporate mentality that is present on Laithorl, and even then, the culture of work has also permeated through every aspect of life. Those that have been given the opportunity of settling on Laithorl are lauded as being pioneers with their stories constantly shared back on Khrea as a means to encourage greater support and investments in colonial ventures to claim and tame the wilds of Laithorl. As such, even simple everyday tasks and activities are somehow centered around the work that an individual is responsible for completing to continue earning their stay and the wealth of hazardous pay that they are provided due to the dangers of attempting to colonize such a planet as Laithorl. Sports, Media, Literature, many of these endeavors are overlooked or pushed to the side purely due to the need to focus on ensuring that a colony or station doesn't break down and expose the colonist to the dangerous elements and extreme temperatures present in some areas of the planet. Even Religion, what little there is in terms of congregations and personal beliefs, is solely focused around deities, beings, or concepts that venerate hard work, toil, wealth, and a promise of an easier afterlife for those that toil in their current station. It is only the Executives, the upper echelon of Corporate Boards that are permitted the privilege of such amenities and luxuries of Artwork, Music, Literature, Fine Wines, and the trappings of such upper class and wealth provide. Still, even Executives are held to a higher standard in regards to monthly quotas - expected to maintain high worker morale, high exports of goods, and increasing profit margins whenever the chance to do so arises; else they may find themselves shipped back to Khrea in exchange for an individual that'll more readily embrace the ideals of Working to Earn the Right to Work. |

Colonial Protectorate of Laithorl |
Laithorl had previously been an undeveloped and untouched planet within the Halcyon System - save for the odd pirate cache or hidden base. Prior to any development, its population was also insignificant to establish a proper planetary government, let alone any form of local autonomy or regional council. Given the lack of population and the threat that an untapped planet had in regards to the resources being utilized to fuel and fund enemy or subversive forces, the Halcyon Corporation - the de facto government of Khrea - established the Colonial Protectorate of Laithorl and established control over the planet. This has resulted in the Halcyon Corporation establishing an internal department to handle the day-to-day operations and colonial affairs of Laithorl and its worker populace. |
Planetary Wealth Analysis |
Years of meteor strikes, collision with one of its moons, and in more recent years, a near extinction-level strike of a rogue asteroid has resulted in vast deposits of precious metals, gemstones, and mineral deposits being developed and seeded upon the planet. Laithoral remains one of the richest - in mineral wealth - planets within the Halcyon System that were still relatively untouched, undeveloped, and did not boast a colony or other artificial structures outside of a few uncharted and hidden pirate caches and bases. Not only does Laithorl possess a large quantity of high-quality precious minerals and metals, but evidence also suggests that its remaining orbital bodies also possess similar levels of untapped resources and wealth. |
Planetary Stability Analysis |
The Colonial Policy of Laithorl states that all workers that volunteer for a posting on the planet remain Company Property and are held to the laws, standards, and standard operating procedures as any employee of the Halcyon Corporation on Khrea. As always, visitors are often directed towards specific sections of an established colony and warned to stay away from specific areas during specific times. However, the vast majority of the populace on Laithorl are employees of the Halcyon Corporation and are of the understanding that improper behavior and flaunting the rules can result in disciplinary actions up to termination. |
Freedom and Oppression Analysis |
Unlike on Khrea - in which the populace was separated between the Employed and Unemployed - all individuals present on Laithorl are usually employees of the Halcyon Corporation which has afforded them the rights and privileges as such depending on their station and rank within the Corporation. However, even the lowest, entry-level employee is afforded a higher standard of living and a sense of freedom and rights than the unemployed on Khrea. In fact, an individual must show that they are an upstanding citizen of Khrea and worker of the Halcyon Corporation to even be afforded the chance of volunteering or being promoted to a position on Laithorl due to the extreme wealth and higher wages that one is expected of experiencing. |
MILITARY AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS |
Level of Military Readiness |
An established Colonial Protectorate of the Halcyon Corporation of Khrea; Laithorl is safeguarded by its - relatively speaking - planetary neighbor. To this end, the Halcyon Corporation provides its Colony with a garrison of Security Personnel, as well as a small naval garrison consisting of two to five Gunships. Any additional military forces are often close at hand due to the planet's close proximity to Khrea - and can be rapidly deployed as needed on a case-by-case basis. Likewise, due to the presence of the Halcyon Corporation and other Corporations, a number of Corporate Security Forces are also present on the planet to safeguard a specific Corporation's interest or capital venture. |
Technological level compared to the Galactic Standard |
Laithorl remains on par with the Galactic Standard in terms of Technologies available. The presence of vast amounts of mineral and metal wealth has ensured that any required technology needed to harvest or protect a settlement, colony, or venture from the environment is also readily available. In many ways, the planet's wealth has ensured that - despite its sparse population - it remains just as developed and technologically advanced as a planet in the Colonies or Mid Rim Region of the Galaxy. |
HISTORICAL PLANETARY INFORMATION |
Like many planets that have been beset upon by cataclysms and dangers, Laithorl had once been a verdant paradise of a planet. Vast mountain ranges, pristine oceans, old-growth forests, and vast grasslands played host to a myriad of native flora and fauna. The first cataclysm that struck the planet seemed to be sole that of misfortune and not of foul play - experienced when the orbit of its moon Ehenly decayed to the point that the moon slammed into Laithorl, depositing a vast amount of natural resources and ejecting a large field of debris - which is still visible to this day - into orbit around the planet. This first event began the downward spiral that slowly chipped away at the viability of life on the planet. Additional meteor and asteroid strikes over the years did little to assist in nurturing life - and its penultimate cataclysm arrived when a Rogue Asteroid slammed into the planet, leaving the region known as The Chrysanthemum visible from orbit. It is speculated that this final cataclysm is what caused the planet to become tidally locked - weakening its orbit and magnetic fields enough to slow its internal rotation - though this could have also been caused by unseen forces working beneath the surface. It would take time before life began to flourish again, a sliver of a habitable area known as the Equitorial Life Zone harbored much of the native flora and fauna that had been present on the planet prior to its current situation. Though it's been observed that new flora and fauna have begun to find their own way in the Sunward facing and frozen halves of the planet. The cataclysms also had a secondary effect on the planet, being the deposit of vast amounts of mineral wealth, along with the formation of precious gemstones, fuels, and other raw materials and resources. However, for much of its existence, Laithorl had largely been left untouched - save for the odd hidden pirate base or fortress tucked away in the Equitorial Life Zone. Even the Khanate of the Shiraya Expanse had done little to attempt to colonize or even extract the wealth from the planet prior to the arrival of Confederate Remnants following the fall of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. In fact, it was not until their arrival that Laithorl was given a second look. Though largely unpopulated, its resources were such that its closest planetary neighbor - Khrea - deemed it enough to attempt to colonize the harsh planet. Within the last six years, colonial ventures have been successful to the point that the Colonial Protectorate of Laithorl was established to safeguard and secure the investments put into the planet by Khrea and its myriad of Corporations that have been clamoring to develop the untouched planet. |
