OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: To create a suit for Lancer for which to add onto/modify later.
  • Image Source: Killzone Shadow Fall Art Team
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Restricted Missions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Lancer Damar
  • Model: N/A
  • Affiliation: Lancer Damar
  • Modularity: Highly modular
  • Production: Unique
  • Material: plasteel, nylon
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Infiltration
  • Weight: 5kg
  • Quality: 4
SPECIAL FEATURES

- NV mount on helmet appartus
- Reinforced gloves to allow for more striking/CQC engagements
- Reinforced at joints and arteries with padding to allow for easier manipulation of his joints on hard surfaces

Strengths:
  • Breaks up his outline: The suit breaks up Lancer's natural outline, making it easier to move within darkness. It also is silenced, meaning that the only movement noise that comes from the suit is his footsteps, rather than any gear or the suit moving itself.
  • Made of flame-retardant nylon
  • Incorporates a 'No-show' device, sported on Lancer's wrist.
Weaknesses:
  • The suit was built for infiltration, and thusforth is only modestly capable of withstanding a direct impact from a blaster. If an adversary uses a slugthrower against Lancer, it'll go right through the suit- and right into the important, frankly squishy bits of Lancer.
  • The suit contains no protection other than the NV mount for Lancer's head.
  • While the no-show is activated, Lancer cannot use communications equipment of any kind- or receive any.
  • DESCRIPTION:

Lancer decided that it was time for him to adopt a suit of some kind- operating out of a jacket and pants was only going to get him so far. He couldn't wear his old One Sith armor, so Lancer, using several aliases and going to a few different vendors, bought the materials to craft his own suit for, tailored to him. It was relatively simple, a flightsuit built up with reinforced plates, and webbing to allow for pouches, or other additions to the suit later on. He took great care to make sure the suit was crafted to suit his needs an assassin, rather than something to protect himself in a combat scenario.

The suit does not show up on IR signatures.
  • What technology provides this ability?

Lancer Damar said:
The suit cannot conceal Lancer's natural IR signature, especially from his head.
  • This seems to conflict with the above quoted Strength – unless the Strength is meant to convey that the suit itself doesn't show up on IR, which hardly seems a strength at all if Lancer's natural IR signature shows up anyway.
  • Please clarify this confusion.

Flame-retardant nylon
  • This should go under Strengths.

  • Reinforced how? Armor is usually weakest at this points to allow for mobility, so this seems a bit strange – how was it achieved?

  • What technology provides this ability? IR signatures can be blocked out with a variety of materials (a real life example would be the MARPAT/Multicam uniforms, granted they aren't washed with optical brighteners), although 'natural' IR signatures, such as hands/heads, can't be blocked out by the suit due to the fact that the heat released from the body occurs from these areas. Unless a person entirely covers their body 100 percent, they will still show up to a degree on IR devices. IR devices are one of the few things that an enemy can use that is more or less not defeatable, but the threat can be reduced. Such as the suit, but not where his face is poking out of.

  • As for the padding, I was going for what the picture presented- built in-kneepads, elbowpads made out of plasteel and reinforced with nylon fiber padding.

MARPAT and Multicam are camouflage fabrics that incorporate IR-reflecting finishes, meaning they reflect light in the near-infrared range. This only obscures the individual/object from night vision sensors, however. Sensors based on thermal imaging would still be able to detect Lancer inside this suit, and plenty of SW armors come with such equipment.

If you want to achieve a more thorough IR-camo effect (since it is a stealth suit), I'd recommend incorporating something like No-show. Given the overall weaknesses of the armor, utilizing slightly more powerful stealth tech would still keep this balanced.

Obviously if you're fine with the Thermal imaging weakness, you can keep it at that. In that case, just add a line to the Description and Special features that the armor uses an IR-reflecting coating, and add the Weakness to Thermal imaging.

The suit is detectable on infrared imaging.
  • Since you're now using No-show, it wouldn't be detectable. You can remove this.
  • However, No-show does incorporate another Weakness of its own – when the device is active, the user cannot communicate via comms, holonet, etc. That does need to be included under Weaknesses.
That should be the last of the edits. Tag me when you're done and I'll stamp this. :)
