Private Late Night Homework

The hour was late.

Later than the young Jedi initate expected to be awake anyway. Having only visited the Jedi Temple Library to conduct some research for a class, he'd instead found himself buried in a pile of data cards that he had collected, the screen in front of him filled with information on distant planets that one day he was hopeful he could go and visit.

Everyone around him whom he had passed the iniate trials with was being selected by a Master and he just wasn't. They were all getting to go exploring the far reaches of the galaxy and he was just stuck on Courscant. He'd tried to get himself on the radar of different Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters but had achieved nothing.

Shaking his head, he knew he had to pull himself together. The Force had a plan for him, he just had to trust in it. It was something he was constantly reminding himself. It was hard, of course. All he wanted was to explore the stars and study the Force in it's entirety but he had to accept that if the Force's plan for him wasn't that then he'd have to get over it.

Kaelos cast his eyes back over to the list of topics he was actually meant to be researching and taking notes on and let out a sigh. It was an extremely dull topic but he knew he needed to put some effort into it. He just wasn't sure what notes he was meant to make about flora of the galaxy. It would look good however if he managed to ace the class and was likely to draw attention of at least a curious Jedi Knight. Surely.

Vera practically bounced into the library, her usual boundless energy barely contained within the temple's sacred quiet. She'd meant to come here earlier, really, but one thing had led to another — training, eating, getting distracted by some sparring match in the courtyard — and now it was late. Not that she minded. She worked just as well at night as she did in the morning, so long as she had something to do.

Spotting another student sitting alone, she made a beeline straight for him, a bright grin already forming on her face. Without hesitation, she plopped her datapad and books down next to him with an ungraceful but confident thud before flopping into the seat beside him.

"Mind if I join you?" she asked, not actually waiting for an answer before settling in, her multicolored eyes practically glowing with curiosity.

Then, without missing a beat, she turned toward him, resting her chin in her hands. "I'm Vera, by the way! Vera Noble." Her grin widened. "Whatcha studying?"

She leaned forward slightly, already peeking at his screen before he even had a chance to reply, her enthusiasm as uncontainable as ever.

She came out of no-where.

The unfamiliar female had approached him from behind and had taken a seat next to him before he'd even had time to process her appearance. Whilst she appeared to be older than him, that wasn't what caught his attention about her. It was her eyes that stood out to the young Jedi Initiate, they a mix of orange and silver that he had never seen before.

The second thing that drew Kaelos' attention was that she was radiating energy that seemed impossible to be projecting at such a late hour. He hadn't seen anyone so energetic at such a late hour. When most Jedi were wrapping up to settle down in the evening, he was almost certain the young female would be running circles around the Jedi Temple.

Kaelos cast his eyes towards her and cast her a tired smile as she asked if he minded if she joined him. He noted that she hadn't really given him much of a choice, but he didn't protest either way. Whilst he wasn't one to admit it, the company would make a long night of studying go much quicker. Especially if her energy could rub off on him.

Vera Noble... He listened as she introduced herself and it took him a second or two to make the obvious connection. He just about managed to stop himself asking the obvious question and instead smiled slightly more energetically towards her.

"Kaelos. Kaelos Vryn" he stated, gesturing towards the screen. "Part of my studies unfortunately involve the study of flora and fauna throughout the galaxy. As a consequence, I'm sat here at whatever time it is studying stupid plants"

Vera propped her elbow on the desk, resting her chin in her palm as she turned fully toward Kaelos, her multicolored eyes sparkling with amusement. She barely glanced at the screen filled with plant diagrams and text, her attention fully locked onto him instead.

"Plants? Here?" she repeated, her lips quirking into a teasing grin. "Why study them in the library when you could just go out and find them in the real world? That'd be way more fun, don't you think?"

She stretched slightly, shifting in her chair as if just the thought of being cooped up in here any longer was enough to make her restless. "I've got the same class, and ugh—if I have to memorize another useless fact about some flower I'm never gonna see, I might actually scream."

Her grin widened as a spark of mischief flickered in her eyes. "But… what if we did see them?" She leaned in slightly, her voice dipping just enough to make it sound like she was sharing the best idea in the galaxy. "What if — instead of suffering through book-learning like a couple of monks — we, I don't know… borrowed a shuttle and made this study session way more interesting?"

She was already sitting up straighter, her energy practically vibrating at the idea. "Think about it! Real plants. Real environments. Real experience. And we'll bring the books along." She gestured animatedly as she spoke, her enthusiasm impossible to contain.

"Way better than staring at screens all night, right?"

Kaelos let out a slight gasp..

He wasn't expecting the daughter of the Jedi Grandmaster to be such a rule breaker, to suggest stealing a shuttle and exploring the galaxy to study flora and flauna up close and personal. It caught him off guard somewhat. He'd expected her to be all prim and proper and she just wasn't.

The young Jedi cast his eyes towards the young Noble and blinked. "I... I don't know" he started. "That sounds like stealing... and if we get caught I'd be kicked out of the order" he said in a worried tone. He held back on stating "they". He knew full well that his new aquaintence's family name would protect her. He on the other hand had no such protection. The Jedi Order wouldn't miss him.

"Plus... I've not been out of the temple since I arrived here. I don't even have a lightsaber or anything like all of the rest of the Jedi" he continued, his voice shifting to more of an embarrassed tone. "If something went wrong..."

But he couldn't deny, the thought of getting out of the temple and seeing the galaxy filled him with some form of excitement. He hadn't seen any of the galaxy except Kiffar and Courscant and Vera Noble Vera Noble was offering him an opportunity to do so.

"But... you are right" he started again. "It would be so much more interesting" he admitted, the trace of a smile on his face. "Imagine getting see to the galaxy..." he mused out loud, almost as if he was selling the idea to himself.

"Alright, fine. I'm in" he relented finally.

"But if this goes wrong... I can't be kicked out of the order. It's all I know"

Vera threw her head back with a laugh, her multicolored eyes dancing with amusement. "Kicked out of the Order? Please," she grinned, leaning forward again with a playful flick of her hand. "We're not stealing a shuttle, Kaelos. We're borrowing it. We're gonna bring it back, right? And it's for educational purposes! Jedi are supposed to experience the galaxy, not just read about it."

She smirked, resting her chin in her palm again as she studied his hesitant expression. "Besides, if we do get caught, I'll take the heat. I'll tell my parents it was my idea and that I dragged you along." She winked, clearly unconcerned.

Then, as he mentioned not having a lightsaber, her smirk widened into something far more mischievous. "Oh, well, that's an easy fix," she mused, tapping a finger against her chin. "Mom has a few extras lying around. I could always, you know… borrow one of those, too." She flashed him a grin, teasing but clearly way too into the idea.

"But, more importantly—" she clapped her hands together excitedly, "You're in! This is gonna be so much better than being stuck in the Temple."

She leaned back in her chair, practically vibrating with excitement. "Don't worry about the flying part, either — I can fly. It'll give you a chance to maybe see how that works too if you don't know how to fly yet."

Vera reached out, giving his arm a reassuring squeeze. "This is gonna be fun. Promise."

Kaelos blinked again softly.

Technically she was right, to commit a theft there had to be an element of dishonesty and an intention to permanantly deprive that they wouldn't have. They were intending to return the ship following their adventures, providing all went well.

Her excitement was clear for all to see. She even attempted to quell his worries about being kicked out, suggesting she would tell her own mother that this adventure was her idea so that he wouldn't even get into trouble.

The suggestion about borrowing a lightsaber caught him off guard. He wasn't overly surprised that the Jedi Grandmaster had spare lightsabers. He did pause to briefly wonder what she would think if one went missing. He wasn't entirely sure how well that would go down.

She sold him when she suggested that she even knew how to fly. It became quite clear to him that this was an actually doable thing and he really wanted to go and see some more of the galaxy outside of just Courscant and Kiffar. Realising he was about to put a lot of trust in the young Jedi, he took a few moments of silence to compose himself.

"Okay fine" he said finally. "Let's take half an hour, gather everything we need. I'll meet you in the hanger then" he said finally. "And like I said, I can't get in trouble for this. I don't want to cost myself a chance of getting a Master for this"

He offered her a nervous smile, waited for her reply and then got up from his chair. The young Jedi Padawan removed the datacard from the computer and set off for his room to gather together everything he would need for their upcoming adventure.

"I promise," Vera said with a wide grin, placing a hand over her heart like she was making the most sacred vow in the galaxy. "You're not getting in trouble for this. You're gonna get a great Master, and this little trip? It's just gonna make you even cooler by the time you do."

With an excited bounce, she spun on her heel. "Okay, half an hour — see you in the hangar!" And with that, she darted off, already buzzing with energy as she rushed to collect her things.

When Kaelos arrived at the hangar, Vera was already waiting, rocking on her heels with barely contained excitement. The moment she saw him, she practically beamed and held out a lightsaber hilt, offering it to him without a word. There was a mischievous glint in her multicolored eyes, but she didn't explain where she got it from.

"Here," she said simply, like handing someone a lightsaber was the most normal thing in the world.

Then, without missing a beat, she turned and hopped aboard the shuttle, motioning for him to follow. Inside, she led him straight to the cockpit, practically vibrating with excitement as she gestured toward the co-pilot's seat.

"Sit down," she instructed, plopping herself into the pilot's seat with confidence. "I'll take care of everything."

As her fingers danced over the controls, powering up the ship, she turned to him with a grin. "So, Kaelos," she teased, her eyes practically glowing with excitement. "You ready for this?"

Kaelos spent the best part of half an hour gathering together a collection of books and data cards that he'd booked out from the archives of the temple on different plants and flora and flauna and insects. All stuff that they would likely not use, but that was useful to have non the less.

His walk down to the hanger took him through unfamilar corridors in the temple. He'd seen them once or twice upon his arrival to Courscant but he hadn't really been to the hanger since. He may or may not have taken the wrong turn or two on his way down to meet his new aquaintence.

Eventually he stumbled into the hanger, rucksack on his shoulder. He caught sight of the Noble daughter the moment he made his entry into the open space, she was the once pacing and bouncing around. She was truly uncontainable and Kaelos wasn't sure if she actually knew how to keep herself still.

Upon approaching Vera, she offered him something. He reached out and his fingers closed around the metallic item she offered him and it took him a moment or two to establish that it was actually a lightsaber. He blinked, a mixture of impressed and shocked that she'd actually kept true to her word and just borrowed a lightsaber belonging to her mother. Then it very rapidly hit him that he was holding a lightsaber that had been utilised by the Jedi Grandmaster.

Right, couldn't lose that then.

The young Jedi Initiate offered Vera a smile as he clipped the weapon to his belt. He had to admit, he was interested in what colour it's blade would be. He was also sensible enough to not ignite it in the hanger of the Jedi Temple.

He took a few momenets to study Vera as she readied the ship. The young Jedi radiated confidence, like she had done this a thousand times before. She was extremely sure of herself and her abilities and he had no reason to doubt her.

"You're in charge. I'm just following the leader" he offered with a chuckle.

Vera chuckled, casting Kaelos a playful sideways glance as her fingers expertly danced over the ship's controls. "I'm only the Captain when we're flying," she teased, her grin widening. "Once we're out there? You just focus on having fun. That's the whole point."

The engines hummed beneath them, thrusters firing up as the shuttle lifted smoothly off the hangar floor. Vera barely needed to look at the controls — she had done this plenty of times before, and it showed in the effortless way she maneuvered the ship.

As the hangar doors slowly parted, revealing the sprawling cityscape of Coruscant beyond, Vera exhaled softly, her multicolored eyes flickering with anticipation. She always loved this part — the moment before taking off into the unknown, before an adventure truly began.

With a grin, she nudged the controls forward, smoothly guiding the ship out into the open sky. The moment they were clear, she turned toward Kaelos, her excitement bubbling over.

"Alright, so," she mused, drumming her fingers against the dashboard. "Any planet you wanna see? We've got options." She waggled her brows, leaning back in her seat as she watched his expression, eager to see where this adventure would take them next.

An entire galaxy to explore.

No-one had ever truly explored every inch of the known galaxy, and there were still millions upon millions of light years of unknown galaxy to explore. One could spend every waking second of their entire lives exploring and would uncover a minute percentage of the galaxies secrets.

The Kiffar had watched as his counterpart had guided the ship into orbit with extreme precision, making it look almost easy. It was as if she'd flown a spaceship a thousand times. Everything she did, she made look effortless and simple like it just came natural to him.

She couldn't have been more different from him. Whereas he was more serious and by the book, she was a free spirit who would rather do her own thing. Whereas he was happy to sit and research, she would rather be out there seeing the sights for herself.

Yet he found her oddly charming. She was clearly extremely laid back, so much so Kaelos wondered if she'd been horizontal if she was any more laid back. She had a rebellious streak about her but she was clearly protective of her friends. She'd already offered to lie for him and cover for him if they were caught and they'd only met each other less than a few hours ago.

"The possibilities are endless" he finally responded, mindful that she'd asked him a question before he'd gotten lost in his own thoughts. "I've only ever been on a starship once and that was to leave Kiffu and arrive on Courscant" he admitted.

How to choose where to go when the possibilities were endless? He thought on it for a few moments, eyes looking around as their ship broke through the Courscant atmosphere and into the orbit of the planet. He was almost taken aback by how much nothing there was around them.

The answer was obvious, especially considering the lesson on Flora and Fauna.

"I think it's time for me to return to Kiffu"

Vera's grin stretched wide the moment Kaelos said Kiffu. "Ohhh, I like that choice," she mused, already flicking switches and adjusting their course with practiced ease. Kiffu was well within Alliance space, which meant no Imperial blockades, no Sith patrols, and no sketchy hyperspace jumps through war zones.

Which also meant… less trouble if they got caught.

Not no trouble, but hey — she'd take it.

The ship's nav-computer beeped, confirming the course, and Vera wrapped her hands around the throttle, her multicolored eyes sparkling with excitement. "Alright, co-pilot," she teased, waggling her brows as she pushed the lever forward. "Next stop — Kiffu."

The stars outside the viewport stretched into brilliant white lines, and within moments, they were hurdling through hyperspace. The hum of the engines settled into a steady rhythm, the cockpit bathed in the soft glow of hyperspace travel. It was her favorite part of flying — those few minutes of quiet before they arrived, before the adventure truly kicked off.

Leaning back in her seat, she turned to Kaelos, resting her chin in her palm. "So," she mused, curiosity flickering across her expression. "Tell me about it. What's Kiffu like?"

Within minutes of him mentioning Kiffu, they were in hyperspace.

With a quick dance of the trained pilots fingers, Kiffu was programmed into the navcomputer and they were off. Stars streaked past the windows of their "borrowed" ship as they cruised through alliance space faster than the speed of light.

The young Jedi Initiate had never looked at where Kiffu lay on a map in relation to Courscant, so he took a chance to have a look on one of the screens in front of him. It wasn't as far as he'd expected, pretty much directly to the south west of the ecumenopolis that was Courscant.

Vera queried what Kiffu was like, and Kaelos paused for a moment before he answered. "For me, it'll always be stunning" he answered after a few moments. "Lightning season is unlike anything you've ever seen. When Kiffu and Kiffex are close together the energy storms power the entire planet" he continued, reminicing about his time on the planet.

"Plus, it ties into our class on flora and fauna" he laughed, tying their trip back into their education. "Static Trees and Spark Dragons roam the land" he commented with a smile. "Wonder if we get extra marks for seeing them up close"

Kaelos had all but forgotten about the risk of trouble if they got caught. He'd completely forgotten that he and the daughter of the Jedi Grandmaster had just stolen a ship and a lightsaber. He was just thinking about seeing bits of his homeworld that he'd never had the opportunity to see.

The smile was plastered across his face.

PpBs3gB.png

Vera's multicolored eyes lit up like fireworks the second Kaelos mentioned lightning season. "Ohhh, that sounds amazing," she breathed, practically vibrating with excitement. The idea of entire energy storms crackling across the planet, powering cities, lighting up the sky — yeah, that was exactly her kind of thing.

Then he mentioned Spark Dragons. And Static Trees.

Her grin widened, but she blinked and tilted her head slightly at him. "Maybe let's not mention to our instructors that we saw anything up-close," she teased, her smirk playful. "I feel like 'accidentally electrocuted by an energy dragon' isn't gonna get us extra marks. Probably just a lecture."

Not that it would stop her, of course.

She leaned forward slightly, her excitement bubbling over. "Do you think we'll see some lightning while we're there?" she asked, eyes sparkling as she looked at him. "Because that? That would be so worth the trip alone."

She loved storms. The raw energy, the sheer power — it reminded her of how alive the galaxy really was. And if Kiffu had storms unlike anything she'd ever seen before? Well, that just made this adventure even
better.

Her eyes were like windows.

Vera's multicoloured eyes lit up the moment he mentioned the storms, showing just how excited she was. She enquired into if they'd see any storms and he could tell from the way she asked just how much she wanted to see the storms of Kiffu.

Storms were a sign of just how much power there was in the galaxy.

"I don't know, but I hope so" he answered in response to her question. "The crashing thunder and the strikes of electricity across the sky... I think everyone should view the Kiffu storms at least one" he said quite honestly. He'd missed the sound of the thunder so much.

His eyes scanned down towards the screen in front of him, looking for any sort of ETA for their arrival into the Kiffu system. Whereas Vera would instantly know where to look, Kaelos had never had the privilage to fly a ship and so it took him a little while to find the information that he was after.

"On the assumption I'm reading this right, we appear to be approaching the Kiffu system" he paused for a moment. "I think, anyway" he added quite honestly. "Why don't you try teaching me how to fly this thing?" he questioned with a smile.

PpBs3gB.png

Tag: Kaelos Vryn Kaelos Vryn
Vera practically beamed when Kaelos described the storms, her fingers drumming against the control panel with restless excitement. "Everyone should see them at least once," he had said, and yeah, she was so on board with that. The way he talked about the rolling thunder, the electricity dancing across the sky — she could almost feel it already.

"Oh, now I really want to see them," she grinned, practically bouncing in her seat. "This trip is already the best idea ever."

Then Kaelos looked down at the screen, his eyes flicking over the readouts as he tried to make sense of them. Vera watched with amusement, waiting to see if he'd figure it out, and when he finally spoke, she knew.

"You are reading it right!" she confirmed, her grin widening. Without missing a beat, her hands flew across the controls, adjusting power levels and preparing for their exit from hyperspace. "Alright, co-pilot," she teased, waggling her brows as she reached for the throttle. "Let's do this."

With a firm pull, the ship lurched back into realspace, stars snapping back into place as the deep, dark void of space was replaced with the brilliant sight of Kiffu. Below them, the planet stretched out in golden hues and storm-darkened skies, arcs of distant lightning flickering across the surface like restless spirits.

Vera let out a low whistle. "Okay, that's awesome."

But they weren't done yet. She cracked her knuckles and then motioned Kaelos closer. "Alright, pay attention — this is how you don't crash a ship."

She dipped the nose of the shuttle ever so slightly, guiding them into a smooth descent, fingers dancing over the controls as she adjusted for turbulence. The deeper they went, the more the sky roiled around them, wisps of storm clouds licking at the ship's hull. Lightning forked in the distance, illuminating the landscape in flashes of brilliant light.

"Stars, this is so cool," she laughed, sparing a glance at Kaelos before nudging the ship toward their landing coordinates.

The terrain below stretched out in jagged ridges and rocky plateaus, patches of energy-absorbing infrastructure dotting the land like veins of golden light. The cityscapes of Kiffu gleamed below, perfectly in sync with the power of the storms that fueled them.

As she adjusted their approach vector, she turned to Kaelos with a wide, mischievous grin. "Alright, you ready for adventure?"
