- Slave-Rigged — The Lateran-class has a slave circuit system installed which has shaved a significant amount of the labor that would normally be required to operate this ship.
- Firepower — With a variety of weapon emplacements installed, the Lateran-class was capable of unleashing enough firepower to be cause for concern for other capital ships.
- Focal Shield — When the Lateran-class is receiving a sustained barrage from a single direction, the Shield Force Multiplier will concentrate the available deflector energy to create an impervious shield, capable of withstanding an unbelievable amount of incoming fire.

- EMP Resistance — The extensive use of tridurium as an ingredient throughout the ship's interior paneling, alongside the faraday cage components, has insulated the ship's sensitive systems from most phenomena that might cause electrical disturbances, such as ion cannon weaponry.
- Difficult to Trace — The Lateran-class was equipped with a location scrambler that increases the difficulty of triangulating the location of this ship.
- Gulfstream — The Lateran-class was equipped with the Gulfstream Maneuvering System which uses gravitationally-enhanced gyroscopic stabilizers to increase maneuverability at the expense of speed.
- Protected Rear — The engines of the Lateran-class are well-armored and protected by three quad laser cannon turrets to discourage starfighter harassment.
- Interdiction Disruption — The Lateran-class was equipped with a Gravity Well Neutralizer which can cancel-out the effects of a corresponding Gravity Well Projector of an interdictor vessel once the blockade breaker has entered firing range.
- Lopsided Shield — When the Lateran-class is receiving a sustained barrage from a single direction, the Shield Force Multiplier will cause deflector shields to concentrate around that spotting, leaving the other areas of the ship minimally shielded.
- Irregularity Shield Exploitation — The focal shield being generated by the Shield Force Multiplier requires the enemy to sustain a constant barrage. When an opposing ship fires too infrequently, this prevents the Shield Force Multiplier from activating.
- Multidirectional Shield Exploitation — When the Lateran-class receives an enemy barrage from multiple directions, the Shield Force Multiplier gets scrabbled, and is unable to create a focal shield. This means Starfighters could work in tandem with a capital ship to collapse the focal shield being generated by the Shield Force Multiplier by hitting the gunship from multiple angles.
- Slave Rigged — Because a significant portion of the Lateran-class has been automated it also has increased vulnerability to Slicing.
- No Hangars — This capital ship does not have hangar space. To depart from this gunship, the ship will need to dock with a space station, space port, or another ship.
- Gravity Flux, Gulfstream — When the Gulfstream Maneuvering System is activated creates a signature that is can be easily detected from a great distances by standard sensor systems.
- Point to Point, Interdiction Disruption — The Gravity Well Neutralizer that's been installed on the Audacity-class can only be used on one interdictor vessel at a time.
- Scalability, Interdiction Disruption — The Gravity Well Neutralizer can only be used against an interdictor vessel of a similar size. While the Audacity-class can handle interdictor vessels up to 500 meters, its Gravity Well Neutralizer ceases to work against anything larger.
Following the success of the Templar-class Armored Gunship, the Federal Cooperative would commission MandalCo, their Hodasal branch, to create three new variants that would use the same hull design as the Templar-class, they wanted: an anti-interdictor, a minesweeper, and a carrier. These would become Project Lateran, Project Teutonic, and Project Sepulcher, respectively.
MandalCo would divide their staff into three teams. The team responsible for developing the anti-interdictor would become Project Lateran. They were instructed to build a ship that could run through a blockade. To this end they decided to keep the Shield Force Multiplier that was already part of the design of the Templar-class. Instead they decided to remove the starboard weapon emplacements to make room to install an additional source of power to feed the gravity well neutralizer, which they would acquire from the Squib Merchandising Consortium.
Wanting the blockade runner to evade capture and taking the necessary turns that might be necessary in a dicey situation, the MandalCo team decided to install Gulfstream-class Maneuvering System from the Lucerne Labs. To feed this technology, the Mandalorian craftsmen would remove the portside weapon emplacements to install yet another source of power.
They built a prototype and put it through the rounds, which would perform to the standard set by the Federal Cooperative’s leadership. They would order the design into production, and the first generation of the Lateran-class Blockade Runner would be launched in 787 ABY.
