GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Media Name: Law for the Protection of Imperial Honor
  • Format: Official documents are written on flimsiplast, copies are held digitally on holobooks.
  • Distribution: Inter-Planetary
  • Length: Short
  • Description: The Law for the Protection of Imperial Honor was an Imperial Seal that was ordained by the Sith Emperor, ratified by the Dark Council, and circulated throughout the Empire by the Office of Imperial Truth. Designed to restrict the civil liberties of the Mandalorian population within the Empire, the Law forbade the marriage between members of the Mandalorian culture and other people (noted as honorable citizens) of the Empire. It likewise forbade extramarital relationships of this manner and stripped the right of Mandalorians to fly the Imperial flag or wear Imperial colors, all of which were punishable by hard labor if broken by any reason. Under the pretense of upholding the law, the reigning Imperial authorities were allowed to prosecute Mandalorian citizens to any degree they wished.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Author: The Dark Council
  • Publisher: Office of Imperial Truth
  • Reception: Tensions between the Imperial citizenry and the Mandalorian had been high for years, with the constant proliferation of propaganda that highlighted the Mandalorian's Sack of Dromund Kaas and the wanton slaughter of innocents they perpetrated. To many, this was seen as a preventative measure to keep the Mandalorian people contained and controlled, to keep the peace, and to maintain order. To those who didn't see eye-to-eye with the Sith government, they saw this as just another method through which the Empire subjugated and stripped sentient beings of their rights; albeit in a more overtly targeted fashion than previous instances. The Empire didn't bother to record the Mandalorian people's reaction to the Law, for any outrage against the Law was quickly suppressed in the name of the public peace.
FORMAT INFORMATION
  • The Law for the Protection of Imperial Honor was distributed throughout the Empire in a variety of formats, although the most common was via slim holobooks passed out to every Imperial household by the Office of Imperial Truth.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The Law for the Protection of Imperial Honor was implemented several months after the Sith Empire's successful occupation of the Mandalore sector. Much like any other Empire-wide edict, the Law was first proposed by the Emperor to be deliberated on and ratified by the Dark Council, the de jure highest legislative authority in the Sith Empire, with all members of the Council being in agreement with its implementation. As the military occupation of the sector found it's footing, the law was quickly rolled out across all systems with discernable Mandalorian populations.
Though the Mandalorians by definition were more of a creed than a species, the native inhabitants of Mandalore possessed distinct physical traits such as caucasian skin, blonde to silver hair, and eye color ranging anywhere from blue to purple. It was these plebian Mandalorians that the law hit the hardest, as they were more easily identifiable than those who were of different phenotypes inducted into the Mandalorian creed. Those Mandalorian Clans who had, in one way or another, allied themselves with the Sith Empire against their fellow Mandalorians and had received reservation property across the Mandalorian sector were allowed to remain exempt from the Law, so long as they continued to abide by the limitations still imposed upon them.
Resistance against the Law was expected, even encouraged, by the occupying authorities. Any act that was perceived as disruptive and seditious, even if it was merely the innocuous voicing of disapproval, could be used as grounds for indefinite imprisonment and even forced dislocation without a hearing or trial. Martial law remained firmly in-place in areas where the Mandalorian people held a significant majority, though such locations were quickly dwindling under the Empire's policy of population reduction.
