Kal'n sat cross legged on the bare ground of The Courtyard. He held a datapad in his left hand while the pointed finger on his right hand moved along with the words he was reading. On his lap sat his newest creation, a lightsaber with a curved hilt. It was the kind that was meant for Form II: Makashi. His dark blue eyes scanned over the information on the pad for perhaps the sixth time this morning, he wanted to make sure that he got it perfect.
After reading several more passages and inspecting the pictures and diagrams that depicted what the stance and strikes were supposed to look like Kal'n stood up and walked to the side to set the pad down on a smell bench where several other items waited for him. Grabbing the first of three sphere shaped objects no bigger than his closed fist, he activated them in turn and lofted all three in the air where they hovered several feet above him.
“Initiate recording.” He spoke loudly, the red lights on all three turn green. “Moved to sector one and maintain a distance of four to five meters while orbiting me.” He reached out with the Force and brought his curved-hilted lightsaber to his outstretched hand and walked to the center of the small training courtyard, a place he could practice in relative peace.
The three small droids executed their commands and began rotating a safe distance around him, all three at different heights. Each one would record the session so that Kal'n would be able to go back later an watch and compare his form to others. It was not an extremely fast way to train, but if done correctly it was accurate and efficient enough to learn the basics.
Letting out a deep breath and with it the nervousness and uncertainty that had been building up inside of him Kal'n focused his mind and brought his thoughts and feelings to fall in line with what he read and interpreted as the thought process of Makashi practitioners. Another deep breath followed.
He brought his right hand out, down and to the right as he ignited his lightsaber, the snap hiss and its green glow and comforting reminder of who he was and why he was here. With his feet shoulder-width apart Kal'n stood still for several long moments, he was in no rush and wanted to make sure his technique was as the holopad had described it.
Next, he brought his weapon before him in a one-handed salute to his invisible enemy, he finished the salute with an X flourish before him. After the flourish he extended his right foot and brought forward what the holopad had said about attacks and ripostes, feet placement and the economy of motion that Form II favored. All in all the process was very slow to start, with steps and strikes coming in slow but control.
