Lefwen is, at her best, a passionate and kind individual, guided by a pragmatic but hopeful view of the world. She is curious and inquisitive, a pair of traits nurtured by her access to any conceivable book or object throughout her childhood. At her core, Lefwen is driven forward by a knowledge of what is possible – she knows what it is to be wealthy, to live comfortably, to have power and influence, and to have true agency; and even though all of those ideas seem distant to her now, she is driven to acquire them. In a way she is hopeful: she believes that things can always been improved.
However, there is a darker side to her nature. Despite having been reduced to a homeless criminal, she is not particularly humble. She knows that she is the rightful heir to her family's huge estate, and she knows that she has abilities which are uncommon. She would never openly brag about these facts, but she is constantly aware of them. Further, due to this sense of superiority she is prone to judging others much more harshly than she would criticise herself. She is reflective, but she finds it difficult to accurately identify her own mistakes and failings.
Another defining, if somewhat confusing trait: Lefwen is sceptical of second chances, both when they are offered and when they are demanded. She feels that failure should mean something, and that wiping the slate clean is a cowardly act designed to protect those who cannot accept their own failures. This does not mean that she believes people cannot change, indeed she is keenly aware that personal development is inevitable. Rather, she believes that true progress is only made when failure and past mistakes are taken into account. However, at the same time she is unable to confront her past with any real honesty – she still seeks to blame others for the path her life took. This personal failing, combined with the emotional link she maintained for so long with her injured and angered sister means that Lefwen is prone to falling victim to resent and anger.
- Determined – Most people have no idea what heights of happiness are available, but Lefwen spent her childhood living among those lofty peaks. She might be a nobody now, but she has a clear picture of what is available to her if she is strong enough to reach it.
- Pragmatic – What purpose is there in action if there is no intended goal? Lefwen is no ideologue, and her actions are based on what will best achieve a given goal, not on faith. She learned long ago that unconsidered decisions rarely have positive outcomes.
- Passionate in a pinch – Nobody would accuse Lefwen of being an overly compassionate individual; indeed she typically adopts a mask of apathy, a reflex adopted as a means of survival during her troubled life. However, in reality she’s not as cold as she tries to appear – she’s capable of caring deeply, she just smothers it.
- Deft Hands - A decade of living on a periphery of society has left Lefwen with a few useful skills, among them a knack for pickpocketing. That said, she's nothing more than a street thief, and her prosthetic fingers can cause major problems in certain climates.
- Conflicted – The path of Lefwen’s life is entirely the result of her own decisions. She chose to throw away her old life on an adolescent whim, and since then she has become intimately aware of the darkness within herself. True, she has been able to justify the theft, the betrayal, the attempted murder – they were all just a result of how unfair and desperate life is – but somewhere inside her psyche she knows that she is in denial, and there will always be that haunting question: what if?
- Judgemental – Lefwen has always prided herself on being good at reading people, something buoyed by her meagre ability as a telepath. However, she’s not quite as skilled at this as she thinks. As a result, she is prone to casting judgement on others based on insufficient evidence. She also finds it easier to criticise others than to reflect upon her own actions and attitudes.
- Geranite heritage – While not as dependent on hydron-three as a pure-line Geranite, Lefwen is still dependent on the gas. Without hydron-three she experiences withdrawal: exhaustion and confusion will begin to manifest with around 12 hours, and a lack of exposure for two or more days leads to the risk of unconsciousness and eventual decline into a coma.
- Poorly maintained prosthetics – Lefwen lacks a third and fourth finger on both hands, an unfortunate inheritance from her Geranite grandmother. Her father, embarrassed by his daughter’s appearance, had Lefwen fitted with prosthetics almost from birth. The craftsmanship is high, but a decade of neglect has left these prosthetic digits somewhat unreliable. In particularly wet or sandy conditions, and when exposed to high voltages, the prosthetics are prone to malfunctioning. This leads to a loss of precision and dexterity in those fingers until they can be serviced.
