Lefwen is, at her best, a passionate and kind individual, guided by a pragmatic but hopeful view of the world. She is curious and inquisitive, a pair of traits nurtured by her access to any conceivable book or object throughout her childhood. At her core, Lefwen is driven forward by a knowledge of what is possible – she knows what it is to be wealthy, to live comfortably, to have power and influence, and to have true agency; and even though all of those ideas seem distant to her now, she is driven to acquire them. In a way she is hopeful: she believes that things can always been improved.

However, there is a darker side to her nature. Despite having been reduced to a homeless criminal, she is not particularly humble. She knows that she is the rightful heir to her family's huge estate, and she knows that she has abilities which are uncommon. She would never openly brag about these facts, but she is constantly aware of them. Further, due to this sense of superiority she is prone to judging others much more harshly than she would criticise herself. She is reflective, but she finds it difficult to accurately identify her own mistakes and failings.

Another defining, if somewhat confusing trait: Lefwen is sceptical of second chances, both when they are offered and when they are demanded. She feels that failure should mean something, and that wiping the slate clean is a cowardly act designed to protect those who cannot accept their own failures. This does not mean that she believes people cannot change, indeed she is keenly aware that personal development is inevitable. Rather, she believes that true progress is only made when failure and past mistakes are taken into account. However, at the same time she is unable to confront her past with any real honesty – she still seeks to blame others for the path her life took. This personal failing, combined with the emotional link she maintained for so long with her injured and angered sister means that Lefwen is prone to falling victim to resent and anger.

  • Determined – Most people have no idea what heights of happiness are available, but Lefwen spent her childhood living among those lofty peaks. She might be a nobody now, but she has a clear picture of what is available to her if she is strong enough to reach it.
  • Pragmatic – What purpose is there in action if there is no intended goal? Lefwen is no ideologue, and her actions are based on what will best achieve a given goal, not on faith. She learned long ago that unconsidered decisions rarely have positive outcomes.
  • Passionate in a pinch – Nobody would accuse Lefwen of being an overly compassionate individual; indeed she typically adopts a mask of apathy, a reflex adopted as a means of survival during her troubled life. However, in reality she’s not as cold as she tries to appear – she’s capable of caring deeply, she just smothers it.
  • Deft Hands - A decade of living on a periphery of society has left Lefwen with a few useful skills, among them a knack for pickpocketing. That said, she's nothing more than a street thief, and her prosthetic fingers can cause major problems in certain climates.

  • Conflicted – The path of Lefwen’s life is entirely the result of her own decisions. She chose to throw away her old life on an adolescent whim, and since then she has become intimately aware of the darkness within herself. True, she has been able to justify the theft, the betrayal, the attempted murder – they were all just a result of how unfair and desperate life is – but somewhere inside her psyche she knows that she is in denial, and there will always be that haunting question: what if?
  • Judgemental – Lefwen has always prided herself on being good at reading people, something buoyed by her meagre ability as a telepath. However, she’s not quite as skilled at this as she thinks. As a result, she is prone to casting judgement on others based on insufficient evidence. She also finds it easier to criticise others than to reflect upon her own actions and attitudes.
  • Geranite heritage – While not as dependent on hydron-three as a pure-line Geranite, Lefwen is still dependent on the gas. Without hydron-three she experiences withdrawal: exhaustion and confusion will begin to manifest with around 12 hours, and a lack of exposure for two or more days leads to the risk of unconsciousness and eventual decline into a coma.
  • Poorly maintained prosthetics – Lefwen lacks a third and fourth finger on both hands, an unfortunate inheritance from her Geranite grandmother. Her father, embarrassed by his daughter’s appearance, had Lefwen fitted with prosthetics almost from birth. The craftsmanship is high, but a decade of neglect has left these prosthetic digits somewhat unreliable. In particularly wet or sandy conditions, and when exposed to high voltages, the prosthetics are prone to malfunctioning. This leads to a loss of precision and dexterity in those fingers until they can be serviced.

Childhood's Dreams
EAZe5j6.png

Lefwen was born on Epica to a life of plenty. Lefwen and her twin, Laphia, were doted upon by their father, Tamazin Claskier. Tamazin was a proud man, the owner of the successful Claskier Technologies, and while he loved his daughters deeply he was always embarrassed by their Geranite inheritance. As such, he ensured that his daughters were provided with the most finely-crafted rebreathers and finger prosthetics that his immense wealth could afford.

The twins’ childhood was characterised by its luxury. Anything they desired was theirs to have – toys and books were acquired from the farthest reaches of the galaxy, fine foods were served and exquisitely tailored clothes were produced. The twins were an adventurous pair: they enjoyed exploring the woods and hills of Epica, getting involved in duelling practice with the local lords and ladies, and the thrill of speeder racing. It was a dreamworld, but as with all dreams it was doomed to end.

Paradise Lost

It was a warm, dry day when it happened. The sun beat down heavily on the climate-control shield above, and the twins were racing ambitiously around the track while their proud father watched from the grandstand. On the fourth lap the family’s life was shattered. Clipping her sister’s bike, Laphia lost control and collided decisively with the barriers around the track. Blue traces screeched up the shield’s walls in a flash of light, and with fascinated and horrified eyes Lefwen watched as her sister’s bike erupted in gouts of flame, before crashing and tumbling into the sand. Lefwen screamed, partly from the horror of what she had seen, but also because she could feel every inch of her skin burning and crackling in the heat of a distantly experienced fire. She lost consciousness, and the back crashed neatly to the ground.

Both children awoke in a private hospital room. Lefwen had broken several bones, but otherwise she had suffered no serious injury. Her sister was not so fortunate. Lefwen wept when she saw her sister, and through their connection she felt her fear and pain as she looked out from her burned features with bright, wide eyes. For a time, she refused to leave her sister’s side, but their father grew increasingly distant. It is not clear if it was guilt or embarrassment that caused Tamazin’s change in emotion, but as time went on he grew resentful toward his oldest daughter. Synthskin could repair some of the damage, but it was clear that Laphia’s once delicate and cheerful features could never be recovered. He grew increasingly strict with her, forcing her to wear her hydron-three facemask permanently, and eventually confining her to certain areas of the house, and refusing her all access to her sister.

The twins became distraught, cut off from one another they quickly fell into loneliness. But, they both knew that there had been a link – those terrifying and fateful moments on the track had exposed some deep connection they had. Cut off physically, they unknowingly began to reach out in the Force to one another, and in time became adept in sharing ideas and thoughts through their bond. The two girls would spend hours living within the worlds they constructed within their own minds, this shared experience removing all barriers that their father put between them.

A Change in Fate

Laphia began to grow more and more bitter as she started to understand her father’s contempt for her, and through their Force link this bitterness spread to her sister. In Lefwen, this upswell of emotion was tempered by the joy of her life, but for Laphia the path grew darker and clearer, and through their link in the Force Laphia carried her sister with her into the darkness.

The pair plotted and schemed, and their plans drawn they finally struck against their father. A thermal detonator, stolen by Laphia, was to start the fire that would burn the family into ashes. The exact events are hazy in Lefwen’s memory, having been supressed and denied for so long, but she can distinctly remember standing with her sister upon the landing platform of their family estate, waving their father farewell as he departed on a business venture, and she can remember the race through the dockyards and onto a merchant freighter as the explosion drew all eyes skyward.

The girls had nothing, but they had each other. Those first few months of naïve freedom are some of the best in Lefwen’s recollection: the two sisters travelling and living together throughout the more savoury ports and cities of the galaxy. However, the contrast between this life and her past life was all too much for the young girl, and her sister had grander goals than simply fleeing their home. Having learned that their father had survived her assassination attempt, Laphia’s mind was dominated by murderous hatred. The twins argued violently about how they should proceed, and eventually Laphia left her sister, who awoke one morning to find herself alone in the sleeping bag and left with little more than a handful of credits and a few small provisions.

  • Amilthi Camlenn - Lefwen's first mentor, Amilthi was perhaps the first person to see something in Lefwen. While their time together was regrettably short, Amilthi's guidance and stern support led Lefwen to develop her abilities with the Force and begin to pull herself free of her self-destructive life.

  • Pickpocket - Years of living on the periphery of polite society have given Lefwen some skill as a pickpocket.
  • Climbing - From a young age, Lefwen enjoyed hiking and climbing in the mountains that surrounded their home, a skill that would become invaluable in her later years as a thief.
  • Fencing - Considered a family tradition, Lefwen received fencing tuition as a child and found some success within the sport, although it has been many years since she has fenced.

  • Force Empathy - Lefwen has some innate affinity for Force Empathy. Initially, she was only able to use the ability very broadly: able to vaguely sense the emotional states of those around her,. As she began her training in meditation and achieved a greater understanding of the Force, she was able to develop this ability to allow for greater understanding of specific individuals.
  • Meditation - Under the tutelage of Amilthi Camlenn, Lefwen began to practice meditation. She is still very much a novice in this area, but over time has become more eager to learn about and practice meditation as a way to focus herself and better understand the Force. [Learned in Sand and Solitude.]
  • Force Speed - Through meditation focussing on understanding and interpreting the physical sensations associated with the body, Lefwen was able to begin to use the Force to increase her speed and stamina. [Learned in Sand and Solitude.]
  • Force Barrier - Through the understanding of the Force she gained through meditation, Lefwen has learned how to generate a Force Barrier to deflect physical objects. [Learned in Sand and Solitude]
