LEGIO STELLA REGNUM || Regnum Star Legion

When the Confederate Remnant first founded the city of Regnum, bold volunteers faced the Expanse. Their new home was a cruel one - filled with monstrosities and raiders alike. Though the odds were against them, Regnum's defenders bled to keep its people safe. Over the next seven years, their struggles turned into victories. Their victories into conquests. Now, what began as humble volunteers has evolved into the fighting force of the Ascendancy: The Regnum Star Legion (RSL).

Defenders of the Ascendancy
In the beginning, able-bodied men and women volunteered to patrol the paltry walls of a humble settlement. Upon their shoulders rested the safety of the sick, the wounded, and the meek residing among them. During those early years, the volunteers had very few weapons, armor, or modern defense against the elements. Thus, they resorted to breaking down the droids that had become too costly to maintain. Out of these were fashioned crude suits of armor that could hardly shrug off a blaster bolt. Moreover, many of their midst stitched together their sleeping gear into thick dusters in the hopes of staving off the cold. Having so very little, it would have been easy to give up or to falters. But in those days, the Legion had hope and heroes to keep them going.

Their Hope was the grateful faces of Regnum's people after every thwarted raid.

Their Heroes? They were their brothers and sisters fighting with them, their Primarchs standing alongside them, and their Dominus charging before them.

Thus, for many bloody years, the volunteers fought with next to nothing but gained everything They grew better at contesting the threats of their new home. They soon had actual walls to defend and roofs to sleep under. They even had actual equipment that could keep them safe. But the Regnum Star Legion never forgot where it came from. And this remembrance can be seen in their preference of thick dusters and crudely-shaped armor to this day.

At present, the Legion is a united military force. It does not feature any bureaucratic, separate divisions. It does not award rank based on nepotism or status. Experience and placing service before self are the sole means of elevation. The Legion is founded upon and thrives on Loyalty: to the Throne, to the Ascendancy, and to each other.

Hierarchy and Roles

As a united military force, the Regnum Star Legion does not possess numerous, separate hierarchies. Rather, each member is provided with combat, reconnaissance, and survival training before choosing a specialization. Leadership, therefore, exists as a single, simple chain-of-command.

C H A I N - O F - C O M M A N D

ASCENDANT THRONE: Members of the Ascendant Throne, specifically the Domina (Empress) and the Primarchs (Generals), act as the Legion's commanders-in-chief beside the reigning Dominus (Emperor).

LEGATUS REX: Appointed directly by the Dominus, the Legatus Rex is leads the Legion and oversees its daily operations.

LEGATE: An officer of the highest merit. Legates are authorized to lead large numbers of vehicles, starships, and soldiers. Formations under a Legate's command are called a cohort.

CENTURION: An officer of great merit. Centurions are authorized to lead up to one hundred vehicles, starships, or soldiers. Formations under a Centurion's command are called a battalion.

DECURION: An officer of merit. Decurions are authorized to lead up to ten vehicles, starships, or soldiers. Formations under a Decurion's command are called a squad (land) or squadron (space).

MILITUS: An enlisted member of the Legion.

In addition to these formal ranks, there exist special or ceremonial titles within the Legion. These are:

SIGNIFER: A title that equates to the traditions of "First Mate" and "Quartermaster." Typically granted to talented soldiers who tend to the needs of their formation.

The duty of defending the Ascendancy is not one taken lightly. Therefore, all aspiring members of the Regnum Star Legion are given rigorous training. What began as survival and firefight drills in the wastes surrounding Regnum has evolved into a formal training facility. Known as Installation 02: Draco Mons, an aspirant must first succeed in their recruitment training before choosing their specialization. All graduates of Draco Mons are considered full-fledged members of the Legion and earn the rank Militus.

As each graduate possesses a foundation of combat, reconnaissance, and survival training, specializations exist to hone their skills in a particular field. To date, there are four specializations available to members of the Legion:

NAVARCH: Soldiers who specialize in vehicular combat, be it space or terrestrial. This specialization is responsible for seizing space, air, ground, and sea superiority via warmachines. Here are found starship commanders, pilots, tank operators, and more.

LEGIONNAIRE: Soldiers who specialize in shock tactics and raid operations. This specialization encompasses the majority of the Legion's forces and features marines, commandos, patrolmen, ship-boarding specialists, orbital drop specialists, and more.

VULPES: Soldiers who specialize in reconnaissance, intelligence, and espionage. This specialization provides valuable data on enemy machinations and suppresses domestic dissent. Even Consuls are not exempt from the scrutiny of the Vulpes. Here are found scouts, spies, assassins, and more.

AUXILIARY: Soldiers who specialize in logistics and domestic defense. This specialization maintains the flow of supply to the Legion and is dispatched to hold newly-captured territory. All Consuls of the Ascendancy are bestowed a detachment of Auxiliaries to aide in jumpstarting their world's infrastructure and to cement its security. Here are found medics, requisition specialists, engineers, and more.
