STRENGTHS
  • Almost No Recoil: The inclusion of a second recoil buffer into the stock of the LCAR gives the rifle almost a negligible amount of recoil making it a breeze to shoot
  • Longer Range: With the new heavy barrel and its better twist rate the GFL armorers were able to squeeze more range out of the rifle without changing its caliber
  • Every Ounce of Reliability: While its predecessor already known for its reliability the GFL armorers were able to augment that even further
WEAKNESSES
  • Heavyweight Rifle: With a litany of new features and materials the LCAR was just as heavy as its predecessor, though some took this trade off fine
  • Lower Capacity: As it is with almost any slugthrower the LCAR suffers from a lack of ammunition capacity when compared to its blaster contemporaries
DESCRIPTION
With the creation, testing and fielding of the LCP having gone well the armorers in the Galactic Foreign Legion began to look towards other weapons in their inventory they could improve or replace. The obvious next choice was the Legion's main combat rifle: the AR-01. Just like with the LCP they started by conducting interviews and tests to get both the Legionnaires opinions and concrete data.

The interviews were structured in the same way as before, with the Legionnaires being asked to give their honest opinions on the AR-01. The armorers found that many of them loved the AR-01 as it was highly reliable and durable, with its round being able to do exactly what they needed it do do. Of course even though the loved it there were still some things that the Legionnaires had ideas on with how to further improve and augment the rifle.

With interviews completed and ideas gathered from the Legionnaires the armorers began conducting tests on the rifle to see just how much they could tweak in. The tests were a battery of things from firing in different environments, firing it continuously until the barrel all but caught fire and even tests against ballistics measuring targets to get data on how they affected organic targets.

With these two parts finished the armorers began constructing the weapon from all the information and data gathered. Somewhat surprisingly the version of the AR-01 constructed very much resembled the rifles original prototype, as many of the prototypes original features that had been removed were re-implemented into the LCAR Mk I.

Almost all of the materials stayed the same on the LCAR, with the exception of the barrel since it was replaced with a heavier barrel made out of Quadanium Steel in the hopes of reducing upward recoil.

Just like with materials many of the original features stayed the same but some new features were also added. One big change were making a few of the weapons controls, like the fire selector, magazine release and bolt release, reversible instead of ambidextrous to better customize to the shooters comfort. Another big change was the re-configuring of the rifles recoil buffer system, allow two buffers instead of one two be implemented and therefore lessening recoil.

Another big change was the inclusion of an Ion Bonded Bolt Carrier Group, included as a way to squeeze every ounce of reliability out of the rifle as the ion bonded BCG gives better resistance against adverse environments and also is easier to clean and maintain. As already mentioned a heavy barrel was included and the barrel twist rate was adjusted to give the rifles bullets more velocity and therefore range. A adjustable gas system allows the user to change the settings on the gas system for different environments, i.e. higher gas pressure for adverse environments.

At the insistence of some of the Legionnaires during the interviews, a few features were added to the rifle. A bayonet lug and corresponding bayonet were added to give the user a makeshift melee weapon if need be. A pair of back up folding iron sights lets the user still have a way to aim in case any optic they are using get damaged. A textured pistol grip gives the shooter more grip surface when shooting in adverse conditions. A flared magazine well allows for smoother, therefore quick reloads. Lastly three storage compartments, two in the stock and one in the pistol grip, gives the user a place to store emergency spare parts.
