STANDARD FEATURES

ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Fully Automated: As expected from an N&Z ship, it comes decked out with its own AI in order to remove the majority of menial tasks from the hands of the pilots and gunners and usually can also take over the firing duties as well. Coupled with the ship's sensory array and connection to the datalink and hololink networks, the ship has automated distress call feautures which activate when the AI is forcefully rebooted or shut down without the proper procedure, thus indicating something being amiss.
  • Well balanced: Though the Legiones isn't a speed demon or an acrobat, it can be comparable to most starfighters when it comes to these points, presenting a proper offensive capacity and a more than adequate defensive capacity to round out the whole thing.
  • Can take on much bigger ships: Thanks to the additional of the two NZ IPC-1 Ion Pulse Canons located at the nose of the ship, the Legiones is capable of actually taking down much larger ships or at least be an insane nuissance, as these weapons can not just damage ships, but also disable systems through the residual EMP these ION canons can create.
WEAKNESSES
  • Build to be a buster: As this ship is built and designed to take down much larger ships in small numbers, it sadly has the averse effect when it comes to smaller ships such as starfighters and the likes. It has a proper defense and worthy, starfighter rivalling speed and maneuvrability, but with the very low squadron count and the fixed position of the main weapon, handling a large amount of smaller ships is a much harder task than handling a much larger ship would be.
  • Fully automated: As with the majority of N&Z ships, this ship has the automation both as a boon and a bane, for when the system works, it is an absolute godsent, but when it fails and the crew is shorthanded to handle the menial, but crucial tasks on the ship it could become a problem, especially when there is no experienced engineer or mechanic on board to keep an eye on the engines and reactor without the AI system keeping it all in check.
  • Outboard engine vents: The engines exhaust vents and cooling vents are located at the rear and are only minimally shielded by plating, meaning that with the external shields down, these can be a prime target to cripple this ship.
DESCRIPTION

With an obvious gap in the line up regarding small, but maneuvrable craft that could be used for a multitude of operations the N&Z sought to fix this issue as quickly as possible. Thankfully, the company had managed to expand their own technological portfolio greatly, which would allow them to keep most of the production process in house. The designers and engineering teams from EnSol were set to the task of designing a sleek craft that in a one on one would be capable enough to hold its own against a standard starfighter, but would be larger and heavier with the intent of being capable of delivering a much greater dent in an enemy fleet compared to the usual swarming tactics employed by the majority of small craft such as starfighters.

The briefing clearly implied that this would essentially become a multi role interceptor, which could be utilized for recon missions, raiding and patrol, classified as a Raider Interceptor and designed under the internal R-I1/A, the first variety on the new hulldesign was dubbed the Legiones I-class. Utilizing the up to date ATHENA program in order to keep up the trend and habit of creating highly automated to fully automated ships, the Legiones boasts a state of the art load out with several droid brains allocated within the shield systems and weapon arrangements, all interconnected to the aforementioned ATHENA DCOS AI, allowing for a very smooth operation across practically all the ship's systems.

As the design emphasizes speed, maneuvrability and an overall balance in combat, there had to be a few things that needed to be sacrificed, as such the Legiones variation on the newly designed hull does not possess any noteworthy cargo space, which has been compromised by the HPI-sourced antimatter reactor and the two Hermes fusial engines. This issue has also led to the for N&Z unconventional design with the engine's exhaust system being minimally plated and not fully integrated within the hull's exterior structure.
