In 898 ABY, a large transport vessel called Wayward Light exited hyperspace near the remote water world of Castilon. The people housed within were largely Mirialan and comprised a lightside spiritualist group. The ship had first entered hyperspace around 17 BBY, the people within, known as The Lightseekers, seeking to escape from the Galactic Empire's Inquisitors. Through some fault of the hyperdrive, the ship was stuck in hyperspace within a time bubble, causing its flight to actually slow beyond normal hyperspace travel times despite their being within the alternate dimension. Generations came and went within the confines of the vessel, the people within's last contact to the outside world having been a brief meeting with the Wise Mother.
Upon exiting hyperspace, they landed at the refueling depot on Castilon, learning that 900+ years had past since their ship had entered hyperspace. They experienced a level of culture shock, trying to get an understanding of the new galaxy they were in. From Castilon they relocated to the relatively nearby world of Gaulus, rebuilding the area around the old Rebel base and setting up a small colony for the Lightseekers there. This was where Leora, who originated on the ship only a scant few years prior to it exiting hyperspace, left the group, not wanting to become embroiled in a group destined to remain internally focused.
See, Leora felt a calling. She had ever since before they'd left hyperspace, and many of the Lightseekers attributed their final exit to her calling and her ability to find them a new home so swiftly, as it was she that led them to Gaulus. The calling has reached deep into the very fabric of her being and called her away from the group in order to seek out what it is that calls to her across time and space. Her natural wayfinding ability, the ability to use the Force to find things, would bring her across the galaxy and to the heart of the Alliance on Coruscant, where she felt a sense of belonging, especially around the Jedi temple. Something about the place sang to her like she had a connection to it, but not because she was destined to become a Jedi. She had no desire to join their numbers as she did not feel called to follow their code.
She did find herself drawn to the Alliance, though. Time spent on the world lead her to examine the ideals of the galactic government and she found she identified with them. Because of her skills in the Force, she was eventually recruited into the Strategic Intelligence Agency to help with the acquisition of artifacts, as well as hunting people and seeking out locations of interest to the Alliance that couldn't otherwise be found.
