Let's talk about you and me.

If you're not already aware, as part of the staff's new "Wild West" ruleset update to the major faction metagame, we now have the optional choice of selecting one out of a list of "mandates", or fluff based faction modifiers that can give us both benefits and consequences. Now, GA staff has been discussing possibilities pretty much since the initial posting of the Mandates feedback thread, and now we're quickly approaching decision time. Before we do so, we figured it would probably be a good idea to cast a wider net in terms of our members and what they want to see. So far, staff likes both Capitalism Reigns and Defensive Stronghold, with several of us leaning towards Defensive Stronghold. Having infinite allies for a defensive invasion is a pretty sick edge, and while this choice would put an end to ORC shenanigans in any potential future offensive invasions, whenever we've decided to pick a fight with someone before, we've always managed to drum up the memberbase to be effective.

But others may have different opinions, different takes, and we'd love to hear from the members as far as what seems like the best option going forward. In the end, we could always pull a WarGames and go with Neutral, keep things business as usual. But I know some of you have had concerns over the last few invasion rulings, and Defensive Stronghold at least would take steps to ease some concerns there.

This is just my personal opinion, but I don't think Capitalism Reigns is is that useful for a faction. It's very short-term. As it is, companies can already start at tier 2, and getting to tier 3 is not a chore.


There's no economy system, so having a lot of companies in your space does not help you. Especially since they're not bound to fight on your side.


I figure Defensive Stronghold could be useful. Relentless Horde is fun...but we're not about to go all Space Mongols on the galaxy. There's Rapid Expansion, though on the flip side it's not like we're dom spamming at the moment.
