Levantine Fleet Academy

So, this idea got batted around in faction chat and picked up some traction. On my phone right now but wanted to toss it out there for people to chew on.

We've done a lot of exploration, diplomacy and all that. Definitely got a little Star Trek vibe going on. What if we take that one small step farther and go for a Starfleet Academy? Not a direct rip, of course - no spandex allowed - but a defense/exploration/science/ship systems academy could be a fantastic setting for us. I could pretty easily see some of my old characters coming to spend a few years there, getting their rough edges taken off and going on learning missions while growing in new directions.

So yeah. Thoughts?

Of course, I'd also be interested. I can certainly see a defense/exploration fleet within the Sanctum.

I really love this idea! I don't have a character to support it (that I have time for at least) but I think it would be welcomed. I don't think I have seen something like this on the boards in my time here, but maybe this could be connected to the Jedi Academy?

You might get more players doing that, I think it would need a wider base of members to work well.

Well, there's never been an NFU-skill-focused academy on this board, of any kind. (Mighta been a stormtrooper academy for a day or two.) Some kind of a teacher/student exchange program with the Jedi Academy network would streamline some things, while still leaving this academy free to handle the Force like, well... One idea is for this academy to say 'we teach tactics, combat, navigation, science, engineering and diplomacy. If you're FS and it helps you with those skills, more power to ya, and we can probably find you a tutor or arrange for a semester at a Jedi academy.' Something along those lines, maybe.

Oh this is a big idea. I doubt you would connect it to the Underground but might need a new minor faction for it? Keep it nice and neat. Similiar to JAN.

That's certainly one way to do it, as long as it stayed firmly Levantine-branded. Another possibility might be to have an info page hosted in the LS forums, then do RPs in the Private forums or with Faction tags. Even use Dominions as away missions. And then there's the minimalist approach - a codex sub linked in a new tag to use in sigs. Lots of viable ways to do something like this.

What really appeals to me about this is the opportunity to take old characters out of storage and give them plausible new directions. A good few of mine would do well as students or teachers, and I might get some muse back that way for characters that have lost my interest but used to be favorites.

Now, conversely, your original thought - a separate minor factionfaction - would let us recruit like crazy, cherry pick the ones that are right for LS, and send the rest on their way with the special tag certification whatnot. Place them in factions that would be better fits and could use them. Just brainstorming here.

Actually I have two existing char that might be good for this. Abaigeal E'ron (the daughter of) but I have her messing with one of Sio's alts in all sorts of nasty. But Aerin might be the one for this, considering she is a Midvinter lass, loves exploring and has her own ship. Learned to fly under Camellia Swift in the simulator and has flown since, but exceptionally bad at it as one could imagine. But that does not mean she cannot learn.

Might add a little colour to the mix.

Well you might get outside interest with the minor, still have it under the banner of LS. But you might pull in others that know nothing of LS especially the new comers.

That's what I'm thinking too. 'Oh look, there's Bob. He's an Omega Protectorate officer here on exchange. Oh look, there's Jill. She's a SJO system patrol veteran here to work on her strategy and advanced sciences. Oh look, there's Quorl. He's a Jedi Master here to train as a cadet.' Etc.

Yeap, that will expand the membership base, rather than keeping it in house. You can always boot 'em if they are duds.

Recruitment with a natural filtration mechanism. I dig it. Maybe have tags/rewards/lists for 'semesters completed' or 'graduated' or whatever. People get booted, they walk away like 'my character studied at LFA for two semesters before washing out for insubordination.' Huge character development opportunity rather than OOC rejection.

Once graduated, move across to LS to form up a working fleet. Or a coalition depending on Academy members original faction alliance. I smell a proper Galactic Alliance ... happening here.

I'd probably bring in Alec - Undergrounder, tramp freighter/mining barge captain, just spent almost two years on an expedition to the Kathol Rift. She'd be an entertainingly terrible student. Kirk in the J.J. Abrams films wouldn't be far off, except Alec isn't as shiny.

Also, the sig image I've got for her is one concept that might work for an academy uniform. It's Jyn Odan from SW: Imperial Assault.
