LightSaber creation?

Tyranus

The Darkness feeds me
So I recently got a new saber crystal and I was wondering. How do I make a lightsaber?. Do I need to make separate threads to get the materials to make it? Also, let's say I do finish the thread, do I post it in the factory section, if so where?

There's no need to make a post in the factory for a standard lightsaber - that only needs to happen for ones with special modifications that may need approval.

As for how you do it...some write a full, detailed thread, others just appear with their new lightsaber, fully constructed and ready for use. It's up to you how you write this out: it depends how important it is to your character arc, whether you want us to share in that story, or whether you just consider it a side detail that needs little actual acknowledgement. There are no rules on that one!

Creating a lightsaber can be a fun thread all on its own. There's a kind of bond that forms between the FU and the saber they're hand-crafting, as you get it perfectly right for you, personally. The crystal attunes to your spirit, and the lightsaber "learns" you better than others. It can be super fun to make your own lightsaber in thread form.

But it's not required, unless you want something special.

This topic reminds me of how much I love this site!

The other Star Wars RPing site I was at before, it was required that you had to write 750 words describing the creation of the lightsaber before you could have one, and the Admins had to read the essay and approve it. But the site worked on an EXP system, where you leveled up each month (real time), and had to choose 'lightsaber creation' as one of the skills (I think it was level three). So, basically you had to wait until your third month at the site, then submit the Lightsaber creation essay.

Everyone should thank the overseers of this site for not being so strict!

[member="Tirdarius"] Another perfect reply. Gods I've missed you.

[member="Tyranus Collik"] You can also include the description of your lightsaber and weapons on your character bio. Saves the Factory Judges an approval but still allows you a place to keep your thoughts and items collected. Cheers dude. :D

You're still alive? Well that guy I hired to do that thing is definitely fired now.

That place sounds terrible ...

It was, until you struggled through it. They wanted you to earn everything. They felt that they didn't want everyone just starting out with lightsabers and force powers. If you had a lightsaber, you had earned the right to use it.

I mean, the word-count stuff applied to everything! Any ability or skill, you had to work to gain. You could only apply for two things in the span of a month. It stopped people from god mode, and from randomly knowing how to do something when they didn't before.

It does sound horrible, but when do get the things you want, it gave you a sense of acomplishment. Not everyone had a lightsaber, or the ability to force jump. I added a complexity and flavor to the threads that is hard to emulate without those rules.

But, I happen to like this site way better. Most people over there were ass-hats, trying to kill your character. Which sucks, because you'd have to start all over. Yes, I'm looking at you, Sith Lords. . . :D

But, when you think about it, 750 is pretty easy when it comes to lightsabers.

I mean, you have to find a planet that has the right crystals, which is rare! Then you must travel to it, pass the tests you face in the cave, find your crystal, find the parts and components to make your lightsaber hilt, then assemble it. It wasn't that bad.

I've been on quite a few SW boards and so far this one has been my favorite.

The initial points you make do sound appealing. You earn what you have, but after a while that system caters to twinking (not to be confused with twerking). How do you fight a Sith Lord who has so much power and gear when you can't even get a lightsaber made?

Here I think a better writer has a good shot at taking on someone with higher status.

You just have to avoid people that haven't learned restraint and realism.

I will say I was shocked at how fast you can earn master here when I first came onboard. It's not necisarily a bad thing though. You see a lot mroe overturn on characters. The water certainly doesn't get stagnant.

You don't until you grow stronger. Luke lost his fight with Vader the first time, then went to Dagobah to grow stronger before fighting him again. Luke had no chance at winning that first duel. If you don't reward those that have worked for the powers they have, then why try?

Soon, you'd have a master of Djem-so somehow being disarmed by a padawan learner with a vibroblade. Both on this site and the other, that could be possible by writing skill. Taking advantage of a distraction or whatever.

But in truth, if I was unarmed and new to the Force, and I was standing in front of a Sith Lord, I would run like hell, and try to escape with my life.

Good points ... though that is an extreme example. I'm not saying a Padawan should be beating down a Sith Lord. That would be a writer without restraint or realism.

I'm more referring to people with power specifically hunting down those without any because it's easy prey for fun. You had made mention of ass-hats.

When I started I just used a picture from google as my lightsaber. Later, I had a friend create a picture for me and did a Development thread where my character went planet hopping for the parts and crystals. Then I used the Factory to submit my personal lightsaber; in essence creating it to suit her. For example, her lightsaber can only be used by left-handed people (Activation Stud on the inner half of the hilt for her left thumb rather than on the traditional location of the AS on top of the hilt) since most people are right-handed, thus in theory anyone using her lightsaber would/should feel awkward using it if they are right-handed.
