- Name: Lilium Micante
- AKA: Glowing Lily
- Origins: Nar Kreta
- Other Locations: Cuttings were taken and planted at the Sprite Gate Shore on Naboo, the residence of Gianna Aegis.
- Classification: Flower
- Average Growth Cycle:
The life cycle of the Lilium Micante is similar to many other plants, seed to growth, flowering, pollination, reproduction and death.
The new seeds for the Lilium Micante should be planted in the autumn, once planted, a seed of the Lilium Micante will spend the next 5 months preparing to grow. It will develop a root structure spreading through the soil and a sprout a juvenile stalk which will push up through the soil to emerge to catch the light when it senses the coming of spring. For the next 2 months as the temperatures rise and the days start to elongate the sprout will emerge from the soil, growing leaves as it develops, the growth of each stalk will culminate in a bud. During the next 4 months the flower will bloom, the bud unfurling in the long sunlight days. It is during this time that pollination can occur, so during autumn the flowers fall and the stalks wilt, the flower collecting all their resources into a bulb that will sustain them through the winter and provide the resources for the flower to grow again in the spring.
- Viability:
The Lilium Micante looks like a delicate flower, it looks like it can only grow under the right conditions and a gardener’s careful attention. But this is not true, like most lilies the Micante can grow in most types of soil, deep, shallow, loamy and rocky. As long as the bulbs could establish a strong and stable root system they are able to grow anywhere. The Micante grows best in locations that are shaded for part of the day, and their growth can be slower when they’re in bright sunlight all day. Alternatively, when growing in shade without any sunlight the flower’s growth can be stunted and weak.
Once the flower has grown and been harvested the fresh flowers can last for around a week before they lose their viability. The flowers can, however, be chilled, dried or processed to extend their use-by-date (as detailed in the other effects section below).
- Description:
A slender delicate looking plant, the Lilium has long light green leaves and stem which spilt into smaller stalks near the top. Each stalk is topped with a single deep blue flower. As thin as their stalks are the flowers sway in the slightest breeze, making it seem they’re moving and shifting on their own. When at the peak of its flowering the Micante almost looks like it’s dancing.
- Average Height: 1.5m
- Average Length: N/a
- Color: The flowers generally are a deep blue, with light green leaves and stem.
- Nutritional Value: Very little nutritional value, although some people do use it as a garnish in their food for the refreshing sharp flavour the petals have.
- Toxicity: The petals of the flower have a very slight numbing effect if they touch unprotected bare skin.
- Other Effects: The Lilium Micante is more than just a delicate looking flower which and gardener would be happy to use to decorate their garden, it’s unique properties also make it a sought after herb for use in treating the sick.
- Tea: The petals and leaves of the flower can be used to create a herbal tea that can act as a depressant, slowing down the body’s function which can be used to help treat anxiety, insomnia, seizures/convulsions and pain.
- Oils: The oils of the flower can be used for various purposes, they can be made into a cream that has both a numbing effect as well as being a powerful antiseptic. The oils can also be processed into a very capable anasthetic with very little effort, making it a wonderful tool for healers to have in their herb garden.
- Poultice: The flower has powerful antiseptic and antibacterial properties, and can be used in a herbal poultice to help soothe wounds and promote healing.
- Distinctions: Due to its provenance the Lilium Micante is a very homogenous plant, created out of one singular event, the near-death of Gianna Aegis. Her connection to the force and nature and will to survive resulted in the creating of these plants which both shielded her, and held her in stasis until she could heal and be rescued. This was only a few years ago, and while the Lilium Micante has spread across the battlefield, and cuttings have allowed it to be transferred elsewhere the flower is not yet old enough to have developed the mutations which result in regional differentiation.
- The Soil: The Lilium Micante can grow almost anywhere, as long as it receives sufficient sunlight and its roots can gain purchase in the soil. It doesn’t matter if the soil is acidic, if it’s rocky or shallow, the Micante will thrive almost anywhere you put it.
- Healer’s Helper: The antiseptic and anaesthetic properties of the Lilium Micante make it a very useful addition to any healer’s herb garden.
- The force: The Lilium Micante gives off a very faint aura in the force, a calming and relaxing feeling that is very faint. Just enough to allow someone to relax in their presence, often used as decorations by people who have trouble sleeping.
- Stinging Petals: While each individual touch of the petal has a barely noticeable numbing effect, over time those touches will build-up and enough of them can stun those who wander into the flowers.
- The Darkside: While capable of growing almost anywhere, the Aeterna will not grow somewhere steeped in the darkside of the force. Any attempt to transplant them will leave them sickly and weak before they die.
It was a miracle, a woman’s singular will to survive that had spawned the creation of a new species, a flower never seen before in the galaxy. During the war with the Bryn’adul Gianna Aegis had faced off against the War Chieftain in combat, pulling on all of her abilities in the force to slow the warrior for a time. Sadly, the match between the warrior and the healer was always doomed to end in one day, victory for the Bryn as he left the Jedi for dead.
Gianna refused to die though, calling on the force to heal herself through the injuries that the War Chief had inflicted. However, her body couldn’t heal in the state it was so she put herself into a form of stasis, freezing herself until the force could heal her. While she was putting herself into this state the woman woke to found herself wrapped in tendrils of blue flowers that had sprouted in her sleep.
A new species that had spawn as a product of her will. The Lilium Micante.
