This ain't no sob story.
There's enough trauma stories in the Galaxy that leads to some hero or antihero being born. No, this is an ordinary story of a girl born and raised on a farm in the harsh countryside of Lorrd who became a soldier because her father was one.
Unimpressive people and all that.
Never got involved in the politics of the greater Galaxy. Or so Lily thought.
For the most part, the slavery on the planet didn't affect the Stevens' that much. It did affect some friends in town, however. Franklin Stevens, Lily's father, at his heart, was a good man. The misgivings of the Sith Empire didn't sit right in his britches. So when the Civil War broke out, Franklin wanted to join in the defiance against tyranny.
Lily will never forget the argument in the house. The lanky girl, covered in the dust of the day's hard toiling in the soil, stood wide eyed as her mum and dad argued in the kitchen. Not against the defiance itself, no. But about him leaving them. About the probability that he wouldn't come back.
But he kept in touch during deployment. With every message received by the family, he added some pictures. The more COMPNOR approved pictures she saw about the lines and lines of white clad Stormtroopers, the more the young girl idolised her father for being part of it. For belonging to that uniform defiance.
And eventually, Franklin did come back.
Scarred, physically and psychologically. But he came back. And what stories he told. To an adventurous and ambitious teenage girl that loved her rifles to the moon and back, it set things in motion. So even before the New Imperial Order established a foothold on the backwater planet, Lily set out against her mother's protestations to follow in her father's footsteps to be a soldier.
It wasn't all moonshine and roses, however.
The training was grueling. But for a girl who grew up in the harsh, untamed lands of a backwater planet, helping her further toil out a living from the unyielding land while keeping the wildlife at bay, the perseverance was deeply rooted within her. But to the ambitious young woman, a mere rank within the legendary 501st wasn't enough - not nearly enough proper rifle work in the ordinary lines. So the young sharpshooter endured even harsher training, worming her way into the Special Forces of the 501st with grit, sweat and a fire burning in her heart.
Fire that can't even be quelled by the horrors of war.
Hopefully.
"Never lose that heart of yours, Lilibet. It makes you you. So remember who and what you are fighting for on that battlefield."
