Intent: To provide a projectile cannon suitable for use on starfighters and similiarly sized vehicles
Development Thread: Revenant of Ages Past
Manufacturer: Lucerne Labs
Model: LLT-2 Seure-class Cannon
Affiliation: Open Market (With Marketplace Purchase)
Modularity: No
Production: Minor Production
Material: ferroceramic casing, laser cannon components, cyrogenic cooling system
Classification: Ship-to-ship
Size: same as heavy laser cannon (counts as 2 on the gun tradeoff list for starfighters)
Length: comparable to standard heavy laser cannon (~2 meters)
Weight: 105 kilograms
Ammunition Type: physical projectiles (30x165mm / Blaster Gas)
Ammunition Capacity: 100 30x165mm rounds (standard starfighter mounting, takes up the place of 1 heavy laser cannon)
Effective Range: same as heavy laser cannon
Rate of Fire: 6 rounds a minute (projectile mode) / (Laser cannon mode: standard light laser cannon fire rate)
Strengths
-Projectile mode effectively penetrates starfighter and vehicle armor and shields well
-Secondary light laser cannon fire mode ensures use even after projectile ammunition runs out
Weaknesses
-Slow rate of fire
-Limited projectile ammunition capacity
Description: The LLT-2 Seure-class Cannon is an upsized version of the one of the ancient Mandalorian Rippers, a series of energy-propelled slugthrowers. The weapon uses Ablative Laser Propulsion[/url] principles, where a light laser cannon is used to turn the rear of the metallic projectile into the plasma which propels the projectile through the barrel at roughly 1.1 km/s, equivalent to other similar weapons. The 30x165mm round fired by the Seure is well-suited to penetrating shields and armor of starships and ground vehicles because of its high velocity, though its relative damage is equivalent to that of a heavy laser hitting an unshielded target. This makes the Seure well-suited for hitting heavy armored and lumbering targets like tanks or dropships. But this power comes at a cost. The high velocities that the slug is subjected as well as the plasma rapidly heat the barrel. Even with extensive cyrogenic cooling systems around the barrel, a projectile can only be fired safely every 6 seconds, though many users wait longer just to be on the safe side. The shells also take up space, limiting the cannon to only carry 100 cartridges (in order to take up the same amount of space as a heavy laser cannon). These drawbacks are somewhat offset in that the pulse laser which ignites the metallic propellant can be selectively fired on its own without any projectile ammunition. In this mode, the Seure acts like a normal light laser cannon. While not a terribly effective against most targets, many Seure users use it extensively to help conserve projectile ammo for decisive attacks.
EDIT: For whatever reason, I can't get several hyperlinks to work in the main paragraph, so here they are:
