- Composite Construction: Llwelkyn is primarily composed of a layered Defensa body glove, which is lightweight, flexible, and provides protection from a variety of common threats. A number of spun-plast panels overlay areas of the body prone to rubbing from and chaffing from carrying equipment as well as providing additional padding and protection from some kinetic threats. But for serious protection, Llwelkyn uses thick, reinforced duraplast armor plates on the head, torso, upper arms, and lower legs. These armor panels can be repositioned via straps to better fit the wearer for a more natural fit to improve agility. A thick pane of ceraglass is used for the faceplate on the otherwise duraplast helmet, giving the user good visibility in case the suit is electronically disabled and the HUD is inactivated while still providing reasonable protection against many battlefield threats.
- Loth-Wolf series Combat Scanner with SC-1 Hardened Comlink: This system provides Llwelkyn with its standard package of HUD, sensors, and basic battle armor command and control systems as described in that submission. An open sensor slot in the Loth-Wolf has been plugged in with a Personal Combat Threat Analyzer to help enhance combat performance. Loth-Wolf can also be configured to provide tracking and firing information for many hand-held weapons as well.
- Utility Belt: Llwelkyn comes with a streamlined utility belt roughly inspired by the classic stormtrooper belt. Each belt contains the following equipment: a spool of high tension wire, one grappling hook, four power packs, three ion flares (for illumination or emergency signaling), a combat de-ionizer, a FastMed Emergency Medpac, and four Vaynai Emergency Ration packs.
- Modular Cape Clasps: The Llwelkyn has gription panels and pinning mounts above the wearer's clavicle that allow the user to easily attach different types of cloaks, capes, and ponchos. This allows items like camouflage pattern cloaks to be worn to increase passive stealth, All temperature cloaks to adapt to exceptionally hot or cold weather, or ceremonial dress cloaks to be worn by honor guards.
- Modular Load-Bearing System: Lucerne Personal Defense found that most individuals and military units prefer to customize their webbing gear to carry any number of different holsters, pouches, bags, and other devices. Consequently, rather than trying to make a single integrated set of load-bearing equipment, Llwelkyn has rows of attachment clips and gription panels spread out across the entire suit. This allows users the ability to directly attach a wide variety of equipment to the armor itself based on their own preferred organizational layout rather than trying to adapt equipment to rigid compartments or static layouts. The straps on the back have been configured in order to accept a number of LPD's pack format products, including the Mailoc Photonic Rocket Pack, the Drexl Flightpack, and the Tauntaun series Modular Backpack.
- Basic Environmental Protection: Like many common battle armors such as stormtrooper armor, Llwelkyn provides limited protection from hostile environments. Each suit can be vacuum proof through its self-sealing Defensa body glove and built-in Pneuma-series Rebreathing System, which also has an independent air supply. This rebreathing system also allows its users to filter atmospheres from toxic gases, both natural and artificial, as well as the potential to breathe underwater with the right filters.
- Resistant(Energy): Llwelkyn was designed primarily to protect against the most common threat on most battlefields: blasters and related energy weapons. To that end, its Defensa textile base is exceptionally resistant to blasters, while the additional duraplast plating additional protection for key body parts.
- Resistant(Kinetic): Fenwolf's Defensa base and Duraplast plates provide the user with good kinetic protection. Spun-plast impregnation and burthan thread provides some protection from glancing hits of physical weapons while the duraplast plates can withstand some good direct hits from even some high velocity weapons. Unlike many armors, Llwelkyn's use of thermal gel pockets in the Defensa textile makes such hits easier to endure on the wearer: when struck, this gel, stiffens up and absorb kinetic energy upon impact before spreading its energy across the rest of the connected cloth.
- Resistant(Lightsabers): Reinforced duraplast plates have been known to be resistant against lightsabers, which provides good protection for key body parts. In addition, the use of armorweave within the bodyglove itself provides some protection from light or glancing strikes from these weapons.
WEAKNESSES
- Low Sonic Resistance: Llwelkyn's base material, Defensa textile, provides very little protection against sonic weapons due to its lightweight construction and frequent fluid pockets (through which sound transmits through easier than many solid materials of similar depth).
- Low Radiation Resistance: None of the materials used in Llwelkyn provide much protection from radiation weapons, in large part due to its thin, flexible Defensa layers. Perhaps even worse, the microbes embedded in the weave are living things, and radiation (aside from heat from weapons like blaster bolts) consequently can quickly kill them. This not only can lessen Defensa's protection against energy weapons, but the debris from their destruction can rapidly become enmeshed with other debris or frayed fabric strands, leading to reduced flexibility that cannot be repaired without replacing sections of fabric.
Battle armors are common gear among professional soldiers, providing good protection in the thick of a fight for a reasonable cost in credits and mobility. The Llwelkyn is Lucerne Personal Defense's entrance into this crowded market. Like many of its competitors, Llwelkyn's basic configuration is a form-fitting bodyglove overlaid by armor plates complete with a helmet to form a fully self-sealed environment that is capable of not only protecting fighters from blaster bolts and slugs but also from hostile environments and unknown threats. But while Llwelkyn's basics are familiar, its nuanced refinements set it apart from the competition.
Of interest to most wearers, the Llwelkyn's bodyglove is made of Defensa textile, an advanced fabric that provides more protection than initially meets the eye. Not only is it fairly resistant to blasters and kinetic threats, but it is also self-sealing - a literal lifesafer in hostile environments from the vaccuum of space to toxic atmospheres. The HUD system of the Llwelkyn is fairly advanced - the same type found on the company's power armors - and not only displays firing vectors and allows the wearer to see in adverse conditions, but it also provides threat analysis, alerting the wearer of possible threats and highlighting possible weaknesses in an enemy. Lastly, the Llwelkyn's utility belt contains a FastMed Emergency Medpac, one of the most advanced medpacs on the market at this time.
Llwelkyn is a staple item among many Silver Jedi Concord-affiliated militaries, frequently being one of the standard issue personal armors among many planetary defense forces. It also founds common use within the Directorate among specialist troops who want more protection than simple fatigues but who don't want to wear bulky power armor. The sheer demand for personal armor, especially after material losses after the Bryn'adul War, means that Llwelkyn will likely be in production for a long time.
