Organization Name: Locke and Key Mechanics
Classification: Interstellar Company
Affiliation: John Locke
Organization Symbol:
Description:

Headquarters: Fenris
Domain: Locke and Key is a significant player on the world of Fenris, their status as a large corporation making them the equivalent to a country in their own right on the planet. They also have control of one of the moons of Vylmira. On Fenris, Locke and Key is very integrated with their workers lives, providing housing, transport, recreational facilities and other amenities for their employees, in a world where this is expected they try to go a step further. The moon of Vylmira couldn’t be more different, the company has effectively declared a no-fly zone, barring all but the most trusted researchers from the facility that is largely run by the AI EX.
Notable Assets:
Minerva Research Station
Naboo Offices
Argus Station
Halo Station

Hierarchy:
The Board
Like any large company, Locke and Key Mechanics has a very strict corporate structure. Standing at the top, above the company is the board consisting of the largest shareholders, like any major interstellar conglomerate Locke and Key Mechanics is ultimately answerable to those who have invested money in the company. The shareholders come in all shapes and sizes, from bankers to lawyers representing trusts and other financial institutions to wealthy individuals who have chosen to invest by themselves. John remains the single largest investor with 35% of the shares in his name. Through control of various trusts and other legal institutions, John has regained control of an additional 23% of the shareholding he initially had to sell over time, allowing him to be assured of complete control over his company into the future.
CEO - Chief Executive Officer - John Locke
In his role as chairman of the board and CEO John has far-reaching powers and responsibilities to manage the company’s actions and direction. He is the face of the company, it was on his exploits and engineering expertise that it was formed and to many it still operates.
Vice Presidents
Directly underneath John on the corporate ladder lie the vice presidents, responsible for specific departments within the company. From finance to human resources, sales to research, every aspect of the company has it’s vice president to guide it. Often vice presidents are long term employees who have risen through the ranks to the highest position they can achieve within Locke and Key Mechanics. Competition for the roles can be fierce and even when secured, each vice president is painfully jealous of their fiefdom.
Planetary/Station Supervisors
Department Heads
Division Managers
Supervisors
Executive Assistants/Attaches - Luna V Gianna Aegis EX
Special Researchers
Membership:
Joining Locke and Key Mechanics can be as simple as filling out an employment form, if you want to start at a basic level job. The company is very much a meritocracy, and those who show capability and skill and rewarded and shepherded up the ranks of the company. Locke and Key is more than willing to provide educational opportunities to their staff, in return for a guaranteed employment for a fixed number of years. Other members of the company have been head-hunted or hired for their skills. The more talented you are, the more experience, or trained skills you bring the higher up the organisation you can start, but your rise from there is based on personal merit. The Vice Presidents of the company are roughly split in half between those who have worked their way up, and those outside hires who came in in higher positions.
OOCly, anyone wishing to RP as part of Locke and Key Mechanics should contact me so we can discuss what kind of role they might play in the company, and how we can go about getting them there.

Since he was young John Locke had loved droids, building them, repairing them, seeing how he could improve them, it had been all he’d thought about while his friends were out playing sports and running around he was tinkering away. It was only natural then that he’d want to do it full time, make his career in the industry, and as a young boy he’d always dreamed of having a workshop. But university changed the boy’s dreams, he didn’t want to just repair machines, he wanted to design and build them.

Locke and Key Mechanics was the result of this changed dream, John sank every penny he earned designing droids for other companies and doing repairs into the company. That alone wasn’t enough but his parents saw what he was trying to do and decided to sell their house, pouring their life’s savings into their son’s dream. It wasn’t a lot, wasn’t enough to compete with the big companies, even on a planetary scale, but it paid for equipment, for a place to stay and a first line of production.

Locke mechanics started off subcontracting to other larger companies as they build up their infrastructure before they started producing parts for other droids, upgrades and modkits. John wasn’t happy with that, and seized the opportunity to gain licenses, producing droids for intergalactic companies for sale on Corellia. These deals were the icebreakers for the company, allowing Locke and Key to expand rapidly, opening up more and more manufacturing lines as they grew to become one of the largest production companies on the planet. Yet as the production grew John retained his love of tinkering, as he started to reach for the stars opening up branches on Commenor and Denon. The decision was made to branch out to attract more enquiries, more opportunity and the best way to do this...well it was a big galaxy filled with people who needed to fly, and liked to shoot. Uptil now the company has mainly focused on repairing or providing research and assistance to others as it settled itself. This is a lucrative field and has allowed them to create and invest in solid infrastructure but now they’re getting ready to start up their first inhouse designed production and introduce themselves to the galaxy at large.

Even with the company set on the brink of revealing themselves to the galaxy John still wants to create an environment where his employees were happy and satisfied, no matter which branch of the company they work for. He knows that happy workers are more productive and less likely to be tempted by offers from other companies, either for their employment, or for company secrets. There is a certain loyalty that he has built up, both by providing support to employees in the form of trips, nurseries and housing support as well as through his personal actions. When there was an incident with the production line in their flagship factory John was there with the rescue workers helping people out, even at the cost of his own body. Although the majority of the workers were rescued, John himself was laid up for months, finally accepting a significant set of cybernetics, compromising almost 40% of his body.
As the company moved past this incident they expanded further and further into the galaxy, developing more and more products as they gained more and more of a reputation, gaining more and more of a market share. Although initially John tried to stay out of politics, that proved to be impossible, the bigger a company, the better known it is the more pressure to take sides. Locke and Key Mechanics initially found themselves siding with the Silver Jedi as one of the main suppliers to the Order until John fell out with them over their unwillingness to take action leading him to transfer his allegiance to the Confederacy of Systems developing new bases on Naboo and Vylmira as Lockle and Key became one of the primary suppliers to the confederacy, growing ever bigger and richer with each contract.
