Character
Name: Loris Weavemark
Age: 528
Gender: Male
Species: Raggidoll
Force Sensitive: No
Occupation: Senator
Appearance:
Loris stands at 5'3. The original colour of his materials is unknown, as he has gone through many Patchwork Ceremonies. His hair remains the same as his creation, being grey in a wavy style. Every patch sewn onto him signifies one event in his life. Being one of the oldest Raggidolls of his generation resulted in his body becoming somewhat of a living tapestry, being stitched together with white string. The most important patch, according to himself, is the red one where his left eye should be. It represents when an old friend of his saved him from a fire, which costed half his face. When being repaired, he made it red to represent the blood he would have lost, and remained without an eye to show the sight he'd lose.
His clothes are appropriate for a senator, but have the flair of Raggidoll culture in it. He wears a suit which, while "proper", has blue stitching over the joints.
Weapons:
Despite he and his people's distain for violence, Loris carries a single WESTAR-34 Blaster Pistol for protection.
Personality:
- Handcrafting and Repair: Lothis enjoys traditional Raggidoll handcrafting, particularly when it involves repairing and restoring old or damaged objects. He finds comfort in the act of sewing and weaving, seeing it as a meditative practice that reflects his belief in mending rather than discarding.
- Quiet Reflection: He cherishes time spent in quiet reflection, whether in the serenity of nature or in his private quarters. Lothis believes that deep thought and self-examination are essential for good leadership, and he often retreats into solitude to make important decisions.
- Diplomacy and Peacekeeping: A natural diplomat, Lothis enjoys fostering peace and understanding between different cultures. He has a strong belief in the potential for dialogue to resolve conflicts and has spent much of his life negotiating on behalf of his people, both within the Galactic Senate and beyond.
- Aggression and Violence: Lothis dislikes unnecessary violence and conflict. He finds war and aggression wasteful and destructive, both to life and culture. He often laments the galaxy’s reliance on violence to solve problems and seeks alternatives wherever possible.
- Waste and Neglect: The idea of abandoning something that can be fixed or restored is abhorrent to Lothis. He dislikes wasteful practices, whether it’s the needless discarding of resources or the neglect of damaged relationships. He believes in the inherent value of repair—physical, emotional, or political.
- Impatience: Lothis struggles with the impatience of others, especially in the Galactic Senate. He believes that many conflicts are made worse by rash decisions and feels frustrated when fellow senators push for hasty resolutions without considering long-term consequences.
- Disrespect for Tradition: While Lothis is open to change, he dislikes when others disregard tradition without understanding its meaning or value. He believes that cultural heritage provides grounding and identity, and the erosion of these traditions can weaken a society’s foundation.
- Views on his species: Despite the Raggidolls surprising resilience, ever since their discovery they have been treated as fragile by the rest of the galaxy. Species who craft themselves and can be torn and broken, apparently rather easily, were seen as less capable in the galaxy. It was a struggle to even gain a seat in the Senate, let alone be respected.
- Balance and Harmony: Lothis is a strong believer in balance—both within individuals and in the broader galaxy. He sees the interconnectedness of all things and strives to maintain harmony wherever he can. He believes that just as a Raggidoll’s body is woven together from different materials, so too should societies be carefully crafted to create a cohesive whole.
- The Value of Time: He holds the belief that time is a critical factor in decision-making. Raggidolls live long lives, and Lothis has learned that time often reveals solutions and wisdom that can’t be accessed in moments of urgency. He is a strong advocate for patience and thorough consideration in both personal matters and galactic politics.
- Restoration over Destruction: Lothis is deeply committed to the idea of restoration. Whether it’s restoring peace, relationships, or physical objects, he believes in the power of mending rather than discarding. This extends to his political philosophy, where he often seeks to repair strained diplomatic ties or find solutions that avoid further conflict.
- Fear of Irrelevance: Though Lothis believes in patience and careful action, he sometimes fears that his cautious nature will be seen as indecisiveness. As the galaxy moves faster and more aggressively toward change, he worries that his traditional approach may become irrelevant or insufficient in the eyes of his peers.
- Fear of His People’s Extinction: Lothis is deeply protective of his people and culture. He fears that the Raggidolls, as a unique and relatively small species, may one day fade into obscurity, forgotten or overrun by more dominant species. This drives him to ensure their voice is heard in the Galactic Senate.
- Diplomatic Expertise: Lothis is a master of diplomacy and negotiation. His ability to empathize with others and consider all sides of an argument allows him to mediate disputes effectively. He excels at building bridges between different cultures and perspectives, making him a valuable asset in the Galactic Senate.
- Patience and Long-Term Vision: With the long lifespan of the Raggidoll species, Lothis has developed a deep sense of patience. He understands that lasting solutions often require time, and he is willing to wait for the right moment to act. This gives him the ability to see the bigger picture and not get lost in immediate, short-term problems.
- Cultural Wisdom and Tradition: Lothis’ intimate connection with his people’s traditions makes him a repository of Raggidoll cultural wisdom. He is deeply respected within his community for his knowledge of history, ceremonial practices, and the philosophical values that have shaped the Raggidoll society. This also helps him maintain a strong sense of identity and purpose.
- Emotional Intelligence: Lothis has a keen understanding of emotions, both his own and those of others. He can read the room and adjust his approach to best address the emotional undercurrents in a negotiation or conversation. His ability to make others feel heard and understood often diffuses tension and helps resolve conflicts before they escalate.
- Reluctance to Use Force: Lothis has a strong aversion to violence and conflict, sometimes to a fault. He is reluctant to take aggressive action, even when it may be necessary to prevent greater harm. His preference for peaceful solutions can leave him vulnerable in situations where diplomacy fails. This reluctance may cause him to appear weak or ineffective in the eyes of more aggressive or militaristic factions, making him a target for manipulation or exploitation.
- Raggidoll: He possesses his species natural unease and weakness to fire. Additionally, tasks involving heavy physical labour are a no for him, he'd need assistance.
Backstory:
Born 528 years ago on the remote Raggidoll homeworld of Wovenroot, Lothis Weavemark was crafted with care and love by his parents, as is customary in his species.
As Lothis matured, he found himself drawn not only to the preservation of his people’s culture but also to the broader political affairs of the galaxy. Even though Raggidolls had little involvement in the galactic stage, his curiosity about the larger universe grew. This desire to protect his people, who were often misunderstood and underestimated by other species, led him to seek a role where he could bridge the gap between his culture and the galaxy at large.
Lothis was well aware of how the galaxy perceived his people—fragile, delicate, and unsuited for the harsh realities of galactic life. The soft, doll-like appearance of the Raggidolls led many to believe they were physically weak or mentally passive. However, Lothis knew better. While Raggidolls were indeed non-aggressive by nature, their durability and resilience—both physically and emotionally—were greatly underestimated. Having endured centuries of hardships and repairs, Raggidolls were capable of surviving situations that would leave others broken beyond repair. Lothis, understanding this misconception, made it his mission to prove his people’s strength and value to the galaxy.
Lothis's path to the Senate was gradual, beginning with his role as a Cultural Ambassador for Wovenroot. His diplomatic skills, patience, and wisdom quickly became apparent as he navigated delicate negotiations with other planets and factions that sought trade or cooperation with the Raggidolls. His ability to listen carefully and craft solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems gained him a reputation as a master negotiator.
His success as an ambassador caught the attention of both his people and off-world leaders. After years of serving as a respected diplomat, he was chosen to represent his people in the Galactic Senate. This was a monumental step, as Raggidolls had rarely taken such an active role in galactic politics. Lothis accepted the position with a sense of both honor and duty, determined to ensure that his people’s voice would be heard and that their culture, often dismissed as quaint or fragile, would be recognized and respected.
Upon entering the Senate, Lothis quickly realized that he had much to prove. While his people were seen as peace-loving and wise, they were also regarded as fragile and naïve by many of the more aggressive and militarized species in the galaxy. Lothis faced constant underestimation, with other senators assuming he would crumble under the pressure of galactic politics. His calm demeanor and preference for diplomacy, while admirable, were often mistaken for weakness.
Lothis, however, was undeterred. He leveraged these misconceptions to his advantage, using his patience and subtlety to outmaneuver more aggressive senators. Over time, he earned a reputation as a figure of stability and wisdom, even among those who had initially doubted him. His ability to remain composed in high-stakes negotiations made him a valuable ally to those seeking peace and a reliable mediator in times of conflict.
