Lost in the Sand

The bright sun of Blenjeel beat down on Sosu's brow causing the man to sweat as he road the hover barge across it's vast sands. He had just joined the Beast hunters guild and the first job he picked up had to do with Sand Burrowers, plus he saw it as the easiest way to make credits. So far though it seemed like a horrible job. Sosu had to take off his robe because of just how hot it was and his shirt was wet with his sweat. "Great he said as he finally came to a stop amidst the sands where he sat down crossing his legs and beginning to meditate. Thanks to being a force vampire Sosu radiated similar to a darkside nexus which attracted monsters to him. It was the main reason he thought that taking up a gig with the guild would be a good idea.

During his meditation Sosu's force presence radiated even brighter which seemed to have gotten the desired effect as he heard and felt the sand vibrating. The sound came from multiple directions causing him to break the meditation rising to his feet. He summoned the Chiru rifle to him through the force. There was no point in even trying to pull out his lightsabers, all of them were wanted alive. Yet Sosu just knew the feeling wasn't returned as the hover barge shook wildly. A burrower flew out of the ground beneath the barge making it loose balance and fling Sosu off into the sand. Landing with a solid thump Sosu gripped the rifle tight to ensure he didn't loose it. Rolling backwards Sosu barely dodged the burrower as it flew back into the sand its tail whipping wildly where it hit Sosu and sent him flying into a boulder. The hunt was already going downhill and this was only the first one.

"I'm getting real tired of being knocked around." Sosu said shaking his head and freeing some of the sand that had got lodged in it. Feeling the vibrations once again Sosu flipped backwards just in time barely managing to dodge the Burrower as it came up through the ground once again almost eating him whole. Landing on top of the boulder Sosu got to see the creature fly through the air as though it were a magnificent beast. Though it was only a disgusting worm. "Shouldering the rifle he fired once the creature was right above him. The tranq dart flew straight and true catching the burrower in its stomach but the creature continued on unfazed and burrowed back into the sand. "Nooo!" Sosu thought his chance at getting a reward for that one was over. He had studied how strong the tranq darts were and it may be possible for the creature to get knocked unconscious underground which Sosu would never have a chance to get to.

Sosu couldn't have been more wrong thinking that the burrower was gone as it popped back out once again in a last ditch effort to kill Sosu. Though he was just a bit to fast. Using his faster than most humans reflexes Sosu dived off the boulder to the side watching the Burrower fly past and collide with another boulder where it hit with enough force that it made Sosu think it was dead. The creature squirmed and fought against the tranq dart though its large body hitting the ground with loud thunks before finally falling still. Sosu approached the body cautiously thinking about his safety more than about the burrower then delivering a kick to its side to make sure it was unconscious he gave a sigh of relief. "one down who knows how many more left." Sosu joked before mounting the hover barge and grabbing the chains to secure the first burrower.

Busying himself securing the Burrower to the hover barge by chain Sosu was interrupted by even more vibrations coming to him through the ground. "Oh you got to be kidding me." He groaned picking up the rifle and running away from the barge and the unconscious Sand Burrower. The last thing he needed was to loose the one he already caught or for his barge to be destroyed. The sun could be seen lowering and the temperature began to lower. During his mad dash away from his barge Sosu was cut off by a sand burrower exploding out of the ground just a few feet infront of him. So close that he could literally see its dry skin passing by. "I think they have a cream for that." He said back flipping away from the creature though he landed in the wrong spot. The ground beneath him exploded upwards sending him careening into the sky.

Sosu flew high up into the air and as he looked down he saw not one but two sand burrowers at the same time crossing each other midair in unison as though they were dancers in the middle of a ballet. Falling torwards the ground Sosu reached out grabbing onto the side of one of the spires of stone that reached into the sky. He clung on desperately as the sand exploded beneath him again and one of the burrowers flew at him its mouth gaping. Sosu saw all the teeth inside the creatures mouth just waiting to grind Sosu up. "Sorry I'm the apex predator here." He said raising the rifle and firing it. The round hit the beast square in the head though it kept coming. Right before it reached Sosu though it went limp and fell back to the planet hitting the ground hard enough that a sand explosion rocketed into the sky.

Looking down as the dust cloud cleared and the burrower came to a halt Sosu sighed finally relieved but he knew there was still one more somewhere in the area. He could even feel the vibrations through the spire of stone. "The pay for this better be worth it. I could've spent my time doing plenty of other things but no I just had to pick to go hunting sand Burrowers. Just great." Sosu said beginning to climb down the spire. The climb was fraught with danger as every now and then Sosu would loose his grip and slide down a few more feet lower then he usually did. The palms of Sosu's hand bled from the climb down and his feet were sore. His hunger finally came back his thoughts roaming to feasting off the ambient force energy in the Sand Burrowers but he dare not do it to the unconscious ones it just may kill them.

Finally the sun had fallen and the air began to cool. The planets 2 moons hung bright in the sky making Sosu's pasty white skin look almost silver and causing his hair to shine. It would've been alot more enjoyable if didn't have to run away from a sand burrower. The final one had came after him as soon as he touched the ground causing Sosu to have to run. Due to his physiology he ran faster than most humanoids so he was able to outpace the burrower for a few seconds till it finally caught up exploding out of the sand like a predator out the sea trying to eat Sosu. Jumping forward Sosu barely dodged the creatures mouth as it flew over him by a few inches and back into the sand. Reaching for his rifle Sosu realized he had lost the weapon and as he began looking around for it he spotted it back at the bottom of the spire. "Firefek." He cursed as he felt the Burrower coming back.

Calling upon the force to enhance his speed even more then it already was Sosu pushed his body to its absolute limits crossing the distance in a insanely short amount of time. The sound of the tendon in his leg ripping filled Sosu's ears as he dived grabbing the rifle and rolling to his feet. The pain shot through his body quickly but he didn't have a chance to think about it as the Sand Burrower exploded from the sand where he rolled out of the way letting it enter the sand once again. "After this one I'm going home. Forget I'm done!" Sosu yelled as the Burrower returned once more flying at the force vampire. Tucking his body and rolling Sosu rolled right beneath the creature as it collided with the spire. Rising to his feet and turning sharply Sosu fired a round into the creature from behind. It began to flop around its large body trying to burrow back into the sand but it was to late. "Mines now." Sosu said as the creature came to a standstill.

Finally after what seemed like hours Sosu had gathered all three Sand Burrower bodied and chained them to the back of his hover barge. As of right now he rested in the cockpit guiding it back to where the transport to shuttle the creatures to the clients waited. Flipping on his com he called ahead. "I got the sand burrowers it wasn't a easy fight. I hope three is enough. If not I'm sure someone else will get the rest." Sosu said before flicking the com off not even waiting for a answer. Looking back at the beasts he had hunted he took pride in the fact that he hadn't killed them and it was indeed a fun past time hunting creatures others were to scared to even get near. "I think this will be a nice career." Sosu commented riding off into the moonlight.
