L O S T
Dirty water pooled around her ankles, the stench of mold and decay almost unbearable as she waded along the swampy bank. Despite the foul odor her nostrils twitched as she sniffed the air and felt the tiny hairs on the back of her neck prickle.
Her pupils dilated, lips curled back in a silent snarl as she pinpointed her prey. Or more, her hunter.
Behind her Groom leaped into action. The tuk'ata zipped past her until he was almost fully submerged in the water, his great and powerful maw snapping at something unseen beneath the surface.
Silence, aside from the splashing of water... And then a low howl of pain.
Kida growled, fell onto all fours and pounced. Fabric tore, floating to the ground as she landed within the depths. Skin became fur, feet became colossal paws, both of which felt heavy under the weight of the swamp water.
But she fought on, drifting closer to her quarry and closer still to Groom.
And then she saw it. The behemoth lashed its great tail in her direction, slow due to the drag of the water... And due to the same hindrance she was unable to fully avoid it.
Yelping she sucked water into her mouth and narrowly avoided swallowing the polluted substance. Her ribs felt painful, her left leg limped behind as she swam, but still she fought on.
Nobody hurt her Groom.
Nobody threatened her family.
