- Heat Axe: Nova Edge is a therm-ax, which uses thermal coils to rapidly heat up its axe head to high temperatures in excess of 500 degrees centigrade, which allows it to frequently burn through many metals and other substances simply by sheer contact, even without being swung violently. Nova Edges frequently cause severe burns or ignites or incinerates many organic and/or light materials. It is possible to sustain minor burn injuries simply by being in close vicinity to the heated blade.
- Mono-molecular Construction: Nova Edge series are abnormally dense not only because of their beskar axeheads, but also because of their unusual manufacturing technique which uses ion fusers and pressor fields to make these blades far dense than their size suggests. This makes them very rugged and durable, whether the user is hewing through personal armor or meter thick trees. This mono-molecular construction also allows Nova Edges to have a mono-molecular edge straight from the factory, making them extremely sharp.
- Combo Weapon: While the Nova Edge's axe blade is fairly obvious, the almost conical rear of the axehead is actually designed to function as an icepick. While the heft and heat of this pick is quite sufficient to break through most ice and many other solid materials found in an environment, it can also function as a fairly nasty armor-piercing weapon at close range.
- Cultural Variants: The basic Nova Edge series isn't a single therm-ax design, but rather a common construction and size of a series of therm-axes. The Nova Edges series has a variety of different factory available aesthetic choices that allow some deviation in axehead shape and hilt materials.
- Heat Weapon: Nova Edges can create great amounts of heat, allowing it to simply melt through many materials and cause grievous burn injuries to organics.
- Double Edge: While its great heat can be a great asset, it also be a great liability. Nova Edge's heat can cause burns to its user if they're not careful and the glow and temperature of the weapon also makes it fairly easy to detect.
Axes and hatchets have been quintessential tools and weapons for millennia in hundreds of cultures. At a brief glance, Nova Edges seem like they could be made thousands of years ago by any number of technologically primitive cultures. Yet despite the weapon's simple appearance, Nova Edges actually have surprising sophisticated internal mechanisms, for like the handful of other thermal axes available on the galactic market, the Nova Edge's axehead heats up to extremely high temperatures. This heat, originally envisioned to aid in hewing through thick ice and exotic flora, can be a potent weapon in the right hands. Wounds from Nova Edges are not simple lacerations or blunt trauma, but usually extensive heat injuries in which flesh is burned if not outright incinerated. As a hatchet, the Nova Edge is fairly small, making it relatively easy to both carry and even throw for short distances. While it will never likely replace a rifle or a blaster in most people's hands, it is useful field tool and back-up weapon for soldiers and outdoorsmen.
