Lucerne Personal Defense is a subsidiary of Lucerne Labs that is focused on going back to the original group's interest in small scale projects to support resistance fighters and other groups with similar political views. One of Lucerne Labs original contributors, a bothan engineer named Tresk Ek'ala, broached the subject during one of the Circle's meeting on the state of the company. After much internal debate, Lucerne Personal Defense was formed a subsidiary to continue to provide a means for like-minded individuals within Lucerne Labs to focus on making products that the average soldier or resistance fighter could use. As an outgrowth of Lucerne Labs, the company headquarters was established a short ways away from the company's shipyards on that world, in order that the Circle could keep a close watch on the project. This also has allowed the accompanying research lab to draw personnel and resources from their parent company as needed. Tresk Ek'ala, now the executive officer of Lucerne Personal Defense, managed to convince the rest of the Circle that the company should have a manufacturing plant on Sullust in order to be near the front lines of where products would be of the most use, as well as to try and coax some contracts from the Galactic Alliance. While this underground factory and warehouse facility has proven to be profitable, many wonder if Tresk Ek'ala moved much of the company there in an effort to escape the day to day supervision from Lucerne Personal Defense's parent company. But thus far, they have been no internal complaints as LPD has managed to produce and sell enough personal arms, armor, and other personal equipment to be a profitable venture.
RATIONALE
Lucerne Personal Defense came about as an internal push by some of Lucerne Labs original founding members to get back to supporting small scale items for resistance fighters and other politically similar groups. This put them at odds with other influential members within Lucerne Labs, including the majority of the Circle, who felt that the company should continue on its current path in starship and vehicle development set by President Quee. The debate in the Circle came to the compromise that while Lucerne Labs would continue to primarily focus on the large-scale starships and military vehicles, that profits and financial reserves derived from these products would be invested in a new concern that would primarily be focused onto returning to Lucerne Labs core roots. As with Lucerne Labs, President Quee has a substantial investment within Lucerne Personal Defense and enough personal influence to largely control the company. This is compounded by Lucerne Personal Defense's headquarters and research lab's location on Hast, the president's homeworld.
