- Emergency Beacon
- Stylish and Inconspicuous - The tooth of a Loth-wolf was plated in obsidian, giving it a sleek, glossy-black sheen that gleams beneath the moonlight as much as it does beneath the sun. Hanging from a necklace made out of hand-carved beads of obsidian, the all-black design of the necklace and pendant is a stylish rendition of an ancient design that originated from the Loth-wolf's homeworld of Lothal. Luc once had the article assessed by jewelry appraiser who quoted it at just under a million credits, and in the process the man confirmed that the microelectronic circuitry and components hidden within the tooth itself were near impossible to detect without the use of specialized equipment and direct contact.
- Emergency Beacon - Aside from functioning as an important piece of his get-up, the primary function of the pendant is actually as an emergency beacon in the off-chance that Luc ever finds himself in dire need of his eldest brother's help. The beacon is able to be activated only by Lucien himself through the use of a biometrically-imprinted button which rests beneath the cap that holds the Loth-wolf tooth in place. When activated, the beacon utilizes ghostwave encryption to deliver an untraceable beam of energy into the holonet, which attaches a message that includes his location and current life-signs on random signals along the Holonet. Until the beacon has been deactivated, the message is intermittently sent through the holonet utilizing the ghostwave encryption, theoretically allowing him to reach the intended recipient from clear across the other end of the galaxy without risking detection or interception. The known recipient of the message is his eldest brother Lorcan, but unbeknownst to him a secondary recipient exists as well; Lucien's father, Alistair Dooku.
- Latency issues - Although the beacon is capable of theoretically beaming an SOS across the galaxy indefinitely, the time it takes for the aforementioned message to reach its intended target can range from seconds to multiple hours, and at the most even a full day depending on several different variables. Because the holonet is the platform being covertly used to skirt around the need for expensive and bulky transmitter equipment, the signal can be hindered if it's being broadcasted in regions of land or sectors of space that are far more secure in regards to electronic transmissions, be it through natural or man-made means. And while attempting to actually transmit a signal from one end of the galaxy to the clear other end is theoretically and factually possible, the time it takes for those intermittently broadcasted signals to reach their destination exponentially increases from multiple hours -- as is the case of the most difficult scenarios -- to upwards of a full day.
- One way Beacon - It should also go without saying that the transmitter is a one-way device, as in once activated he is unable to track the location of brother, assuming he received the message for help. Until the moment his brother enters within comms range, Luc must rely on blind faith -- or the force -- in assuming that his message was received. He must also be fully capable of surviving whatever threat is so dire that it prompted him to activate it in the first place as well.
Not long after Lucien chose to take to the stars over his intended path of joining the Sith Order at the behest of his grandfather, the soon-to-be exiled Prince met up with his eldest brother Lorcan at House Serenno's family mausoleum on the Funeral Moon of Mantero. It was there that Luc learned of his impending exile, and that was also where Lorcan provided his younger brother with a final parting gift before the two were destined to once more go their separate ways. The necklace he received bore the tooth of a Loth-wolf as its pendant, an animal which Lorcan knew held a special place within the heart of the youngest Prince of Serenno. He would also inform Lucien of the pendant's unique function, aside from being a stylish and thoughtful gift from brother-to-brother, was the emergency beacon that only Luc could activate and no one else. If Lucien needed him at any time, all he had to do was activate the switch on his pendant and he'd come to the rescue of his younger brother, no questions asked. Lorcan didn't tell Luc that the pendant was also designed to notify their father as well, though so far he's never been in a position which required its activation as of yet.
