- Description: The Luminar are a rare and enigmatic species of energy-based beings. They exist in a semi-corporeal state, appearing as radiant, shimmering entities of pure light and electromagnetic force. Their bodies are partially encased in lattice-like exoskeletal structures formed from crystallized plasma, which stabilize their energy forms. While highly intelligent and powerful, their existence is fragile, as maintaining their coherence requires a delicate balance of energy absorption and regulation. They are deeply connected to the Force, perceiving it not as an external power but as the essence of their very being. This connection makes them uniquely attuned to both the light and dark sides, though the pursuit of balance or dominance often divides their kind.

- Energy-Based Form: Luminar are primarily composed of photonic plasma, giving them a radiant, translucent appearance. Their energy can fluctuate in intensity, ranging from soft glows to blinding brilliance.
- Exoskeletal Framework: To stabilize their form, Luminar develop external crystalline structures that act as conduits and regulators for their energy. These structures grow naturally but can be shaped or modified. Additionally, while these creatures can vocalize through energy fluctuation, their mouths do not ever move (assuming their crystalline exoskeleton has one).
- No Physical Organs: Luminar lack traditional organs, instead functioning as cohesive energy fields. However, damage to their exoskeleton or depletion of their energy reserves can disrupt their stability, causing disintegration.
- No Actual Genders: Being energy beings, they have no need for gender. Their reproduction is based on energy blending. They could all appear as amorphous blobs if they desired, but they generally appear as humanoid, each individual choosing to appear in a way that mimics either male or female humans.

- Energy Beings: Since they're made of energy, they have the ability to survive in vacuum and extreme weather conditions that flesh and blood species could not survive in. They even have the ability to move through space without need of ships.
- Energy Resilience: Energy based attacks aren't particularly effective against them as they can absorb most forms of energy.
- Instability: Without regular access to energy sources, their forms destabilize, potentially leading to death.
- Fragility: While resilient against energy attacks, concentrated physical strikes against their exoskeleton can shatter their framework and disrupt their cohesion, essentially making them unable to continue until they regenerate. Full crushing of their exoskeleton results in disintegration.
- Force Sensitivity: Their deep connection to the Force makes them highly susceptible to dark side corruption or Force-based attacks. They're also highly susceptible to things that negate the Force, such as ysalimiri, which can cause them to go out of phase and completely disintegrate.
- Long Reproduction: Reproduction is an arduous process, taking hundreds of years of the blending of energies between two individuals and then that new energy splitting off of the host to become self-sustained.

- Energy Sustenance: They "feed" on ambient energy, including sunlight, electromagnetic fields, or even the Force itself. Some Luminar are known to drain energy from living beings or technology to survive during crises.
- Communication:
- Energy Resonance: Luminar converse with each other through a form of "telepathic" energy resonance. What this really means is they allow their own energy to trail to that of the individual they wish to communicate with, and that energy vibrates with the energy of the other to share what they want to say.
- Energy Vocalization: They have the ability to vocalize galactic basic through the use of energy vibration. It often comes off sounding crackly or static laced, but is easily understandable.
- Technology level: Have no general need for technology, though are capable of understanding systems based on electrical transmission.
- Religion/Beliefs:
- Unity Through Energy: The Luminar view themselves as manifestations of cosmic harmony, believing they are the pinnacle of existence due to their lack of physical limitation.
- The Great Luminance: A shared belief among many Luminar is that all energy and consciousness will one day merge into a singular, radiant entity, a state they refer to as "The Great Luminance."
- Division of Paths: While some Luminar seek peaceful coexistence with other lifeforms, others believe that corporeal species are primitive and should either be enlightened or eradicated. This ideological split has caused internal conflicts throughout their history.
- Art and Expression: Their art is an interplay of light, sound, and energy, creating kaleidoscopic displays that are both visual and emotional experiences.
- General behavior:
- Leaderless Collectives: Most Luminar organize into loose collectives without a single ruler. Decisions are made through consensus, communicated via their energy fields in a form of telepathic resonance. The majority of their small number reside in the galaxy as a part of these collectives, usually within various star systems, operating close to their stars and avoiding planets.
- Guardians of Energy: Some see themselves as protectors of the natural balance of energy in the galaxy, intervening when energy is exploited or corrupted.
- Exiles and Wanderers: A small number choose to explore the galaxy alone, often as philosophers or scholars seeking purpose beyond their collective.
- Names: Generally the Luminar have two part names separated by an apostrophe, such as Aeth'relis (Ethereal Shadow) or Noct'lyris (Night's Song).
At the dawn of the galaxy there was little life within it, but one thing remained a constant: the presence of the Force. The Force is the harbinger of life and light, and through it, all things are created or undone. One of the first species to appear was a coalesced form of the energy of the Force itself, capable of constructing itself into various exoskeletal forms. These were the Luminar, beings of pure energy that traversed the stars for the pure pleasure of doing so, having no need for the elements that flesh and blood life forms rely on for their survival. They have no need of technology, food, or shelter, only energy, which is abundant from the galaxy's stars and worlds, providing all the sustenance they need to survive.
Because of their longevity, they were able to traverse the majority of the galaxy and obtain an understanding for it and for others. They existed before humans or any other species, but were easily fascinated by these short-lived beings, which lead to the majority of the Luminar forming their exoskeletons in a way that mimicked the form of humanity: bipedal, often with a face including eyes, nose and mouth.
This natural curiosity for humanity would lead them to study other species as well, communicating with any they came across that had developed to the point of being able to understand them in some fashion. Eventually the people of the galaxy advanced to the point of galactic travel, mapping out star systems and pathways between them. The Luminar watched all of this with both fascination and a belief that eventually all of these species would transcend their physical coil and become like the Luminar: beings of pure energy, as energy was an ever present dynamic in nature.
However, natural curiosity also has its drawbacks. With the rise of the Sith came a new acknowledgment of the Luminar and the energy they were comprised of. Because of their unique Force connection, they were hunted by Sith during the rise of the ancient Sith Empire in what became known as The Dark Harvest. Sith Sorcerers and Alchemists would capture Luminar and utilize their energy to perform dark rituals and spells that required greater energy than what they had access to. This left many of the captured Luminar completely destroyed and others serving as permanent power supplies for weapons and spells that were allowed to recharge through solar access, but were never able to escape the confines of whatever cage had been created for them.
The Dark Harvest depleted the numbers of Luminar in the galaxy so severely that they became virtually unknown to the galaxy as a whole. So few of them remained that the majority hid within the deep core where they originated, choosing to remain close to stars where no one else ventured, hiding away from the galaxy. These bred a lot of animosity between the Luminar and the various species that called the galaxy home. Natural susceptibility to the dark side led to some splintering amongst the species, and internal conflict broke out as many wanted to strike back at those that had harmed them while others did not. This internal conflict did not come to blows but separated their dwindling numbers into much smaller collectives dotted throughout the galaxy.
They remain deeply scattered and divided to this day, their numbers very low, their existence forgotten outside of ancient texts.
