Slowly, Vekkar makes his way up stone steps towards two large doors. Strange designs engraved upon these massive slabs of metal, the meaning beyond him. How old was this place, he wondered. Is this just a waste of time? Then he chuckled. He had all the time in the world.
He pushed on one of the doors, opening it with surprising ease despite its size, and stepped into the building. It was very expansive, constructed mainly of stone. Strange sounds came from all directions. Crackling and sizzling came from the right, reminding him of the sound the worker droids made when shorting out in the rain. Far ahead he could hear the screams of the tortured. Just what is this place, he wondered to himself, as he began walking forward.
The screaming getting louder, he thought back to how he had gotten here. The waste of life that had been his father dead, he had stowed away aboard a cargo ship dubbed 'Damsel' to leave his world behind. Things took a violent turn aboard the freighter, and he was the only survivor. Luckily, a lord had intervened when the inspection of the Damsel had turned up five corpses and the manifest had no mention of him being on the ship.
"You have power," the man in black robes had said, "but you don't know it." He remembered the feeling when the man in black had spoke. It was like he was standing next to a fire. He had told him to come here, to this 'academy', and he would know power beyond what any might conceive. Vekkar didn't know what he had meant, not exactly - but he could feel the truth in his words. And he liked the sound of them, too.
