Biography: The Pavish family was one of the Old Families of Dosuun - rich, socially established, and patriotic to the core. Lyell's father Amos was a third son of the family, an upright military man with a firm faith in the First Order, and he strove to raise his son with that same faith. Where exactly the germ of rebelliousness entered the picture is difficult to say. Lyell's mother Anora came from an equally well-regarded family, with no history of what Dosuun high society would consider improper behavior. And at first, young Lyell seemed to follow the example of both parents. He was an exemplary student, disciplined and driven, and received excellent grades. He was well-regarded, too, with a wide circle of friends.

It didn't last. Lyell had no intention of going into the First Order Navy, as his father had, and instead pursued a liberal arts education, to his parents' utter bewilderment and frustration. While Amos served with distinction aboard a Star Destroyer, his son studied history and anthropology and developed a taste for alcohol, women, and risks. Lyell soon became involved in the semi-underground student protests against the First Order's expansionism and the ongoing Great Galactic War, a choice that saw him disowned when it was discovered. That was a raw, painful experience that only led to more drinking and risk-taking, and that soon ran up quite a considerable bill - one that Lyell couldn't possibly pay.

It was this living beyond his means that saw the young man enter the world of smuggling. Accustomed to having family money, he wasn't much good at managing his finances, and soon had to leverage whatever skills he could to try to pay off his mounting debts. Lyell learned new skills along the way - practical, dirty ones that his family would have been ashamed to hear about. Delving deep into the criminal underworld, he soon established himself as an independent freighter captain with a bold streak as wide as a bulk cruiser. He did his best to feed that reputation, hoping to build his brand as quickly as possible in order to attract the kind of jobs he would need to keep his creditors from tearing him apart.
