History:

A distant relative of the Plagyra, the Lygria is, ironically, one of the largest creatures in the ocean of Argyra. When first encountered by Mon Calamari colonists, the Lygria was assumed to be both predatory and aggressive. It was soon realized, however, that the creatures encountered were in their mating season and where typically quite docile.

Upon further study, the creatures were discovered to live primarily on a diet of plankton, though they would often consume small fish by accident. As a species that is confirmed to be blind and lacking in eyes, the manner in which it hunts the smallest creatures in the ocean is still a subject of much debate. Sonic and Scent based hunting has been proposed, as has bio-electrical detection methods. More than one scientist has proposed that the creature hunts its prey by 'sensing' them using the Force in a matter similar to the much-studied Vornskrs of Myrkr. The truth of the matter, however, remains unknown.

The creatures are capable of generating a bioluminescent light deep within its massive mouth. This light also resonates weakly in the force and acts as a lure to draw massive quantities of plankton directly into the creature's mouth. The primary feeding method of Lygria is to simply glide through the ocean with their mouths open, an eery blue glow emanating from deep within. The creatures will swim towards the densest clusters of plankton and swallow them by the trillions.

Lygria are most often encountered deep within the ocean, but are sometimes encountered at the surface or even, quite shockingly, above the surface. Lygria are very strong swimmers. They are both one of the fastest and one of the most agile creatures in Argyra IV's oceans. When threatened, an Lygria will accelerate rapidly and head directly for the surface of the ocean. Moving at incredible speeds, a Lygria will then burst forth from the ocean surface and into the air where its long, powerful wings hold it aloft for a period of time.

Lygria have been known to travel as high as three kilometers into the air and have been known to travel from five to ten kilometers before crashing down into the ocean once more. Their wing-like fins allow them to move through the air in a nearly identical manner to their manner of swimming. In fact, it has often been noted that a Lygria appears to be flying through the ocean.

Lygria are social and live together in pods that range from five members to thirty members. Lygria typically sing to one another as they travel and during mating season. The species gives live birth to their young and are typically very territorial during a birthing. Lygria Calves are born in tropical waters in clutches of twelve to eighty. Each calf is born with a wingspan of about 18 meters and a beak to tail length of nearly 32 meters. These young Lygria spend the next several years of their lives avoiding predators in shallow waters, around coral reefs, and in natural and artificial bays.

Lygria will venture deeper and deeper into the depths of Argyra's oceans as they age. Once a Lygria reaches 400 meter wingspan, they are considered young adults by scientists and can be found throughout all parts of Argyra IV's oceans. Adult Lygria have few natural predators, but juvenile and young adult Lygria are a favorite food of many predators that inhabit Argyra IV's oceans.

Notable Player-Characters: None

Intent: To create aquatic life to help fill out the environment of a planet obviously focused on Aquatic sentient life.

You know the drill, mate! This species is UNDER REVIEW - meaning that has been given a quick look, and it will be looked over more in-depth by myself or another Codex Judge. You will then be tagged when we either request edits, or have no edits to request (a.k.a. insta-approve).

I will be taking a look at this.

The only thing I am on the fence about is the size, this thing is nearly as big as a command ship and it is in great numbers. I would like some of these to change down to 1000m in size or make it more rare. Not a few hundred thousand adults and millions of babies.

That is the largest issue I have with it.

@Matsu Ika

Most of that length is a 'whip like tail'. I typically consider the 300 meter length of the main body to be its actual length. If you still want the tail length to be reduced though, Im fine with that.

Young are abandoned
This isn't too much of a weakness. Well, it is, but it doesn't balance the creature off.

The creature lives hundreds of years and has four strengths, that is quite a lot more than two weaknesses, especially if only one of them is a great weakness. I am going to ask you to put something more to the weaknesses or swap the "young are abandoned" part with something else.
