- Ability to paralyze another being completely
- Ability to make brief, targeted uses of the Force
- The book is able to fully paralyze a target until a certain condition is met, provided the target has lost an initial wager
- The book can enforce the payment of a wagered object through the use of most known Force Powers
- This payment can be temporary or permanent, depending on the agreed upon conditions
- The loser of the wager is rendered defenseless and cannot prevent payment from being enforced through any means
(writer consent necessary, of course, no hits may be called) - Damage to the Book may be reversed by channeling hatred into it, so long as a scrap of it remains
- Attempts to create additional copies from scraps invariably fail as the copies turn to ash
- A wager must be agreed to for the Book to have any effect, through spoken word or written signature
- note that agreeing to a wager IC is not equivalent to OOC permission for anything
- A wager may backfire on the book's owner should they be the loser of the wager
- In such an instance, the book collects from them instead
- The book is resistant to wear and tear, but serious damage will impair it from functioning
- Goes completely inert within Force nullification fields and may be weakened by similar effects
- This extends to any ongoing effects
Lysa's Wager is an ornamented and antiquated looking hardcover book. It depicts an old children's fairytale of a young girl, Lysa, and her dog, Styx, outsmarting a shadowy monster with a clever wager, whereupon the monster, outraged by its defeat, attempts to snatch the girl's dog companion but is pulled to the world beyond by higher forces. The book had fallen into disrepair, but was restored and alchemically treated by a Sith Lord some years ago, turning it into a Sith artefact. Though its appearance remains unaltered, it has become highly resistant to normal wear and tear and can be reconstituted through targeted application of the Force.
The alchemical alterations to the book allow its owner to imbue power into a wager with any other being (or beings). If the wager is rejected, nothing happens. If it is accepted, the book activates and waits for the wager's end. At the moment of the wager's completion, no matter if the owner has won the wager or not, the book will place the loser into Force-induced stasis, rendering them unable to defend themselves. Once this occurs, the victim will be made to pay whatever object (or concept) they had wagered through an application of Force manifestations most suited to enact that payment. The book does not need to be in close physical proximity for this to take effect and such effects may be made to last for long times.
As an example, say a person wagers they can keep a candle burning for a full day. If the candle goes out, they wager ownership of their lightsaber. If they succeed, they demand the book's owner be imprisoned forever.
Should this person lose the wager, their lightsaber is taken from them. Any attempt to take it back will see the lightsaber simply disappear overnight, and it will find its way, as if on its own, back with the rightful winner.
Should this person succeed in the wager, then the book's owner will be imprisoned by means of the Force, effectively permanently. This may take the form of memory rubbing to erase all their knowledge, so they are left catatonic and unable to move, or by use of Force Barriers that seem impenetrable to the loser of the wager, or by trapping the victim in their own mind. Escape is of course always possible through the use of Force nullification effects. Destroying the book or damaging it significantly will similarly allow a person to break free from its effects.
Wagers typically consist of some challenge that must be completed and carry consequences for failure. There can be different consequences for each party, and the duration of these consequences can vary also. A wager and its conditions must be agreed upon by all parties. There are also limitations to the book's powers. It cannot work figurative miracles or move planets and mountains. The objects of wagers need to be reasonable in their size and scope.
//OOC: Writers can be as creative as they want with how payments are taken, so long as the effects are reasonable and in line with the parameters laid out for the Force by the source material
