The Next Day

The Donna, accompanied by her bodyguards & the lovely Iliana Rohr, boarded a Fiora ‘Oracle’ shortly after breakfast. The lower levels of the Uscru District were still darker than the upper levels, but very little changed from evening to morning around the grand Entertainment district. The outing, Ivory had explained to Iliana, would be a quick one. A ‘walk-in’ appointment with a good friend of hers, one Doctor Corran Conner, an associate of their Organization and someone who could bring a bit more clarity to the situation Iliana had found herself embroiled in the night before.

The Donna flashed the young woman a smile as they settled into the plush, cushioned seats of the armored limousine. Caspian had held the door for them, shutting it once they were inside, then taking his place in the passenger seat beside their driver. As the powerful engine hummed, and the speeder rose from the deck just outside the Star Lounge’s front entrance, The Donna seemed relaxed - as always.

“It’s only a short ride to the clinic.” She explained, casually running her fingers through her long black hair. “Corran is an old friend, recently come back into the fold. He was-,” she paused, then seemed to re-think what she was going to say, “-employed with us, at one point a few years ago, but needed to go out into the Galaxy to make his own way for a few years.”

“He’s quite the character, but someone we can trust… especially, with such a sensitive subject.”

The AV finally reached cruising speed, but never broke through the upper plate & into the bright morning sunlight. Patches were still visible through occasional breaks in the overhead cover, shining down into the lower levels of Coruscant & illuminating the deeper city below them which raced by at speed. Coruscant was a city that never slept, and they were not the only vehicle in the sky.

The trip only took about ten minutes. When Andre, the gentleman piloting the AV, opened the privacy screen at the front of the passenger compartment & informed them they were two minutes out, Ivory thanked him.

If Iliana was nervous, Ivory didn't seem to notice; instead, she would seem entirely relaxed.

When the AV finally swept in to land, a glance out the window would find that, instead of a brightly-lit medical clinic or hospital, Iliana would find herself in yet another nondescript alley like any other on Coruscant - albiet a bit cleaner than one might expect. They were still somewhere in the Uscru District, but somewhere closer to the surface.

Immediately after the AV landed, Caspian would exit the vehicle, take a few steps to the rear, and open same door they'd entered from - allowing the two women to step out of the car. Ivory went first, waiting for Ily to join her. "We're here." She declared musically.

However, "Here" didn't seem to be much of anywhere.

The alleyway they'd selected as a landing spot was a large square & surrounded on three sides by buildings which rose above them. Nearby, an alleyway leading out toward a main thoroughfaire seemed the only reasonable exit. A dumpster sat near one corner, overflowing with bags of refuse which looked like it needed to be emptied a month ago. There was no visible graffiti which might indicate either a local gang affiliation or young scoundrels painting street-art. Around them, the sounds of the city carried on in the background, muffled by the buildings.

Instead of directing the young woman toward the alleyway, however, Ivory instead led the way toward one of the doors on the far wall, which was set into an alcove. The words "Private" were still legible but faded, and a handful of cigarra butts had been discarded on the dirty permacrete beside the door. Caspian followed close behind. The 'strong & silent type', he didn't say much, but seemed to exude a similar relaxed attitude... though, with the way the tall & intimidating brute carried himself, such a thing was either an illusion or an empathic glimpse into his mind.

Ivory reached out and touched the doorknob, finding the door unlocked. She opened it, and immediately the smell of cigarra smoke & the sound of laughter and conversation struck the trio with full force. Instead of a clinic, Ivory would lead the way into the dark, dingy confines of a cramped bar which was filled to the brim with sentient beings of every shape, size, and species. The door they'd entered was, in fact, the back door. Their arrival didn't seem to garner much attention from anyone, and Ivory didn't seem too keen on engaging with anyone. Instead of leading Iliana through the room, The Donna made an immediate left - opening another door within it's own alcove which revealed a set of stairs leading below.

Down the stairs she went, into what appeared to be the brightly-lit cellar & storage room beneath the venue. Caspian followed at the very rear. As the trio reached the bottom, the tall man had to duck his head slightly.

They found themselves in a small rectangular space which was brightly lit by cool white overhead lights. The cellar was clean, well-kept, and organized; not quite to Phaelix' standards at the Lounge, but close. With a glance & another reassuring smile in Iliana's direction, Ivory approached the far wall, which was singularly decorated by a large metal shelving unit which was, strangely, entirely empty.

In yet another strange turn of events, Ivory reached out, extending the index finger of her left hand and touching a (seemingly random) discolored brick on the wall.

Immediately, the wall housing the shelving unit clicked.

With a waved invitation to follow, Ivory reached out and pushed one edge of the shelving unit, which mysteriously shifted backward as the entire wall began to rotate on a central axis. The shelving unit swung away to reveal a portal.

As The Donna stepped through, they entered the secret door...

...and into one of the cleanest, most professionally-composed examples of a laboratory Iliana had ever seen.

Location: Corran's Clinic

Corran was in his new clinic which was setup no long after
proving who he was to the Donna and he was glad for it. It was his own space on Coruscant which of course as he liked it was hidden behind a bar in particular. This made it easier for people to come and go without seeming suspicious as needed. Not that Corran really ever left this new place, he'd even set up a cot so he could keep up with all the new work he was playing with. But even with all his new work and everything he still made sure the entire place was always clean and spotless. After all it was important to be ready for anything incoming, given the dangerous lines of work The Family was involved in, it didn't hurt to be ready.

The clinic itself was a state of the art clinic, painted in the stereotypical white that was often given to most clinic originally. Now it was splashed with shades of brown where Corran felt it was more important to hide blood stains in case he hadn't had time between projects to deal with cleaning. It was also an internal nod to his nature as a brown Gurlanin. He had tools in neat lines next to two separate beds, and a set of tools along the walls with various brews and chemicals as well for various projects.

Such as the one he was currently working which was making some of
his stuff as The Donna had called ahead that she was coming. He suspected that it was to try the stuff. So he crushed up some of the synthetic kyber crystals which he had made within this very lab in a industrial press before passing them into his personal mix of chemicals which slowed down the explosive reaction of crushing the kyber crystals in the first place but didn't stop them, he knew. He had lost several batches mistiming their explosive nature as he shoved the mixture into a small fume cupboard which he quickly lowered the blast shield of as the chemicals reacted in the correct way exploding which relased a large amount of gas which was then taken by the vents in the fume hood and put through air scrubbers before releasing it, it would crystalise upon cooling as the pure product of Sabredust. But that could wait as he had just finished that when the Donna had walked in.

He turned to face his guests, The Donna, a woman he hadn't met before, along with a tall man bringing up the rear. He quickly ran over every tall man he had been introduced to then and cut it down to those who would only be within The Donna's presence as a bodyguard since he was still holding up the rear as it was only one person. However the woman was an unknown, Ivory had clearly brought her along with as part of something. Corran looked her over, she was clearly comfortable in a suit but wouldn't be a corporate shill, Ivory wouldn't have brought her here if that was the case. Not a lawyer either similar reasons of no need to bring them here. No definitely something else.

"Donna as always its a pleasure to invite you into my clinic. Caspian it's good to see you again as well." He nodded at both of them before continuing. "So Donna, I assume this lady is perhaps an additional reason for your call today. Another Doctor perhaps? Not a lawyer, not exactly a business woman, that feels not right either. Not unless, is this a test to prove who she is or perhaps something else?" Corran stopped his out loud thoughts for a second putting it together. "Ah someone who wants to join The Family? Well now that is interesting." Corran said pulling all the parts together. "Oh also Donna a new batch is ready to go shortly if you'd like to take it with you after we have finished everything here?"

"Uhuh.." Ily' muttered nervously as Ives' explained the doctor, she remained rather quiet throughout the journey, still unsure as to what was actually happening and still pondering whether they were going to get their 'radiation poisoning' looked at, as Ivory had explained the evening prior.

Her quietness continued as they landed in the alleyway, sheepishly following behind the mob boss~ should any of the patrons have seen them enter, they'd have noticed it too. Meandering down a set of nearby stairs, she began to wonder if Ivory was actually taking her to see a doctor of some variety, or something much more sinister..

"
Oh wow.." Ily' was impressed, yet she flinched slightly at the lights & reflections from all the surfaces as her eyes adjusted. Immediately, her eyes locked on to 'doctor,' almost as if to study him, yet she maintained her composure while the man did just the same to her; "Uh- Hi!" she held out her hand in greeting, "Iliana, call me Ily'," she wasn't quite sure what she was yet or why she was there, thus leaving the decision to Ivory to explain.

The Donna stepped into the laboratory, briefly glancing around the room. The last time she'd visited, the majority of the equipment hadn't yet been delivered; it was clear, that Corran had put immense time & effort into getting his private sanctuary up & running. It had been immensely expensive, and some of the equipment was elaborate & highly specialized... but, they'd gotten what he requested.

The room was overwhelmingly colored in sterilized white & stainless steel, and lit by the pale glow of desk lamps and a number of overhead lights. A few bubbling tanks of liquid sat to one side, and the Doctor obviously had a number of projects in the works - but none were as important as his work on the infamous sparkling powder.

Noise & movement further into the large room drew her attention, and Corran greeted her directly. She smiled subtly to herself as she returned the greeting: "Hello, Doctor." Caspian, her escort, gave the man a nod - but remained near the exit where he could keep an eye on the cellar.

Ivory chuckled, glancing in Iliana's direction. "Actually, no - not a new member. Iliana Rohr, this is Doctor Corran Conner. Corran, meet Iliana Rohr - Stephen's daughter, and one of our Intel Analysts." She gave them a moment to exchange a greeting.

"I have a favor to ask, if I may." She raised an eyebrow, and gestured. "It's a relatively small favor... but, seeing as it's a matter of importance, you were first to mind." She took a breath, "I'm hoping you can perform a blood test. Particularly, for the presence of midichlorians, on both Iliana & myself..." There could only be one reason why such information would be necessary.

"Yesterday, Miss Rohr seemed to exhibit some... remarkable abilities. I'd like to verify that directly, and provide a sample of my own. I assume that shouldn't be too much trouble?"

To his offer of testing the 'new batch', she'd pointedly ignore - with a serious look in the Doctor's direction, as if to say "Later."

Corran listened to the Donna speak as he began getting things together for a test anyways. He turned around at the mention of her name and also her introducing herself. He looked at her hand "Right yes, Iliana, Intel Analysis, daughter of Stephen. Right hands meant for shaking." He took her hand shaking it, "You know your father should look after himself more, he also has yet to finish a meal in front of me. Very Worrying." He nodded as the Donna asked for a blood test and also notably left out the mention of his new batch.

"Right of course, don't mind me ladies, sometimes I'm just to much of a genius even for myself. Right blood samples looking for the ole midichlorians, been ages since I've run this sort of test but it shouldn't take long with this equipment." He looked over his equipment setting up a second set. "Midichlorians for both of you? So are we expecting results for both or is this for luck or something?" He asked looking into his Donna's eyes. "Lets hope we find something then huh? Lest people start removing people from the Pack." Only Ivory would see the haunted look crossing Corran's eyes over that thought and what he had done to force user prior to joining the Family in the first place.

"Oh I- uh.. I'll be sure to let him know.." she retorted curiously, unaware that her father knew Dr. Conner~ although there was still

much she didn't know about her father anyway. Firmly grasping his hand, she couldn't help but notice the small exchange between the doctor and the boss, she thought little of it nonetheless.

"
Right.." she chuckled nervously, "I believe we're looking for signs of.. what was it? some kind of radiation poisoning?" her eyes flickered between Ivory and the doctor in an attempt to communicate what she had learnt the other day, "that's what midichlorians are, right? some kind of radiation.. thingy?"

"
Something happened the other night, anyway.. And now we're here.." grinned Ily' nervously at the doctor.

The Donna caught the haunted look in Corran's eye as he spoke & began to prepare:
"Lets hope we find something then huh? Lest people start removing people from the Pack."

Gently, she reached out - laying a hand on his shoulder with soft pressure; a comforting gesture. With honesty, she said: "Thank you for doing this." and smiled at him.

At Iliana's question, Ivory looked at her and couldn't conceal the humor on her face. "Midichlorians are..., well," She paused, glancing toward the Doctor as she walked toward a set of medical beds on one side of the room. She selected one and sat on it, inviting Iliana Röhr Iliana Röhr to do the same on the other.

"They are believed to be tiny living organisms which live in the blood-stream. A specifically high concentration of them means that a person is inclined toward..." She glanced in Conner's direction, eyebrows raised in an inquisitve manner, then finished, "The specific kind of gifts you seemed to display last night."

Ivory adjusted herself so she was facing Iliana, and held out her right forearm - resting it against her knee to allow the Doctor easy access with his tools.

To her companion, she continued: "The reason I want us both done is for a comparison... and so you can see I'm not lying." She gave Corran the nod to continue. "Typically, Jedi who undergo a blood test have to possess above a certain concentration to be considered for training. Everyone has them, and even with a low number, they're believed to affect the quality of one's intuition..."

She considered for a moment, then added: "I've known Spacers & smugglers who could weave a ship through a blockade like they were dancing on the wind, and they possessed less than a quarter of what a Jedi would be required to possess."

She smiled at the young woman in a comforting manner.

"Have a seat, and let's see what the Doctor can tell us."

Corran nodded finishing up the last of his preparation. "Yes please do when you get the chance, lovely man." He smiled gently, quiet tension unwrapping from his shoulders as the Donna thanked him for doing this. "But of course Donna, any request you ever have I am always happy to perform. Besides if you did go to someone else they might get it wrong." There was some words about what they were looking for that Corran didn't really take to much notice of, he had a job to perform and he sunk into his old ways. Corran began drawing some blood from Ivory first as she continued her explanation about what Midiclorians were while she was holding out a wrist in order for him to be able to draw blood from.

The Specific kind of gifts you showed last night That part did catch in Corran's mind, he had noticed the subtle look his way before it was said. So there's a chance she's a force user like you, huh Donna. Or at least that's what your trying to ascertain isn't it. You want these midiclorian counts to be equal to each other so that you can maybe train her before she's caught by another group. He continued his work keeping those thoughts to himself. And then almost immediately his thoughts were confirmed within the Donna's speech. A higher amount than what your claiming though Donna. You even need to be within the hundreds or more to even have those kinds of things occurring, any lower and there's almost no detection of it.

Corran kept up his smile while these thoughts bubbled through him quietly. Parts of them snagging on old beliefs and ideas that had been introduced and then thrown away. Which was his way, a chameleon fitting into where needed his particular abilities at any one time. Corran put Ivory's blood through the system and came back as he had expected upon all these words, positive and high. He handed the results over to the Donna so she could continue what she needed to. Then Corran nodded with his gentle smile at Iliana, "Things happen all the time but the Donna believes this has something of true importance, so whenever your ready hold out your arm so I might draw some blood for the sample then I shall run it. Who knows maybe the Jedi missed you."

"Uhuh.." she muttered silently as she listened to the boss speak, rolling up her sleeve in unison to allow easy access to her arm. An act she wasn't particularly fond of, but she trusted Ivory- and by extension, Dr. Conner; "What do you mean by 'get it wrong?' Is this a bad thing?!" Ily' spurted out anxiously

"
I'm ready when you are.." she finally added, holding out her arm while wincing.

The Donna had watched the good doctor carefully, only able to imagine the thoughts which stirred behind those guarded eyes. Since Corran had returned to the fold, she'd quickly come to trust his observations and razor-sharp intellect, and respected the cautious approach he took - keeping his thoughts in reserve, and quietly analyzing everything he heard. If there was anyone she could trust to maintain a professional demeanor under odd circumstances, it was he.

This situation, in particular, might have posed some complications for Corran on an emotional level, but Ivory knew he'd be able to remain objective.

Wordlessly, she provided her arm and let him take her blood sample first. The tiny prick of the needle barely registered on her pain scale as it penetrated beneath the skin. The tiny machine Corran was using displayed a small clear vial which slowly began to fill with crimson liquid. When he was finished a few heartbeats later, Ivory pressed down on the tiny hole, placing pressure over the tiny bead of blood which welled up as the needle was withdrawn.

"Things happen all the time but the Donna believes this has something of true importance, so whenever your ready hold out your arm so I might draw some blood for the sample then I shall run it. Who knows maybe the Jedi missed you."

"Their loss." Ivory remarked with a curious smile in Iliana's direction.

Corran barked out a short laugh. "No it's not a bad thing, young Iliana. I'm simply expressing professional pride, that I know how to get a job done right the first time and not miss the vein like a nurse who isn't so focused." He said as he gently prodded the needle into a vein, taking some blood for the sample, passing both her and Ivory some cotton pads to hold over the wounds. He put the sample in and while waiting for the results produced some small bacta packs.

"Please just place this packs over the wound and break them gently. They are filled with bacta and should assist with the healing process enough so you don't need to worry about the holes." He said with a smile as the machine dinged with the results. It came up with about 9000 midiclorians in the blood stream. Less than the Donna's but certainly enough to produce effects with the force. "It seems we have a winner. With a significant midiclorian count Iliana, you are a force user, or at least could be with the right training and mind set." Corran said cleaning up the two vials and placing them into cold storage, should any further information be needed at a later date.

Corran nodded at the Donna. "Indeed, it seems that the Jedi order is at a loss, while we are at a gain." He then leaned slightly on one of his benches. "So, Donna and Lady Iliana, if you don't mind me asking, what is the next move? Is a teacher needed to be contacted? Are there more tests you require?" Corran paused for a minute thinking on those two before saying out loud before anyone else could. "No I imagine, there are no more tests needed, at least not from a medical side and you already have someone in mind to teach her, My Donna." He said with a big grin on his face both from working out what he was sure would be true and also because it would be interesting to have an apprentice of the Donna floating around The Family. Might shake a few things up. "Also feel free to stay for a bit or head off. I believe I might have something floating around here that is edible."

"Ouch!" Ily' called out- it didn't hurt yet her exclamation was more of a psychological one. Holding the bacta pack over her tiny new wound, Corran's words still confused her as she continued to try and grasp what was actually happening. "Significant..?" she muttered to herself, now pondering whether this was a good or bad thing.

"
Training?" Ily' blurted out as the doctor continued to speak, figuring it best to allow Ivory to respond as she was unsure of what to say next- or what their next move was..
