Mage Culture

The "Jidoyan" Mages of Wu Shi Temple adhere firmly to the Four Virtues. This set of values are the basis of their moral code. While the Mages are skilled fighters, they exercise restraint and do not harm needlessly. The leaders of Wu Shi Temple have always been highly protective of their magical knowledge to ensure that spells are not abused. However, this has caused some to view them as selfish. Trained Mages are well respected on Hoylin, though, there are some that view them as haughty or some-what snobbish.

Mages are expected to carry themselves with honor and dignity, and lead by example -- using the virtues as a guide.

FASHION
When it comes to dress, the Jidoyan Master Mages favor silken robes that signify their status. Mages that are also from Noble Houses of Hoylin tend to dress in very ornate fashion. These are generally worn when attending events or important meetings. Though, no matter the occasion, the Mages do tend to ensure that they are able to fight and cast spells if needed without being hindered.

Mages that have been apprenticed generally use training clothes that are lightly armored (or xxx).

Mages in (basic) training wear simple garments.

FOOD & DRINK

In general, Mages are quite fond of delicious meals and strong drink. It should be noted that Mages in Basic Training are not permitted to drink alcohol until they have become apprenticed. Then, they must obey their Master's will.

Meals are usually served with a variety of small side-dishes. Mages in basic training assist with cooking and serving meals (and dishes, of course!).

MAGE FAMILIES

There are many old mage families on Hoylin; some that even saw the Wu Shi Temple being built by Master Seo. Generally, these families take a great amount of pride in their mage heritage.

Of course, some families are more powerful than others. It is considered an honor to join one of these bloodlines -- usually by marriage or adoption. Noble Houses are few, but they are well-known and sought after for alliances.

Families may or may not have a house elder that makes all major decisions. It is not uncommon for families to have Matriarch that continues to pass down her power and prestige to her eldest daughter. People that marry into these families and take their name and are expected to follow their leader's will.

No matter the family, it is highly imperative to respect your elders!
