The largest ships produced by Outer Rim Resources to date. The Magellans are Giant freighters made to move large quantities of goods and people extreme distances. Following a renewed interest in the Far Galaxy, ORR built these freighters as extragalactic transports to link galaxies and reduce travel times. Using Saotome’s ultra-fast hyperdrive, there doesn’t seem to be a planet or dimension these ships cannot reach.
Consisting of a main ship body housing the living quarters, internal cargo, and engines, the front two-thirds of the ship are made of a long spar that holds four arrays of five humongous cargo containers. These fold together when landing and spread in flight to balance the load and assist with positioning the front four maneuvering and sensor vanes. The arrays also hold additional thrusters and repulsors, allowing for their entire removal and repositioning. The cargo containers can be unloaded as normal or swapped out for new cargo, each is capable of independent environmental control or deploying a stasis field to preserve perishables. A Magellan can also project a massive force field bubble to tow additional cargo or another ship up to the freighter’s own size. However, doing so dramatically reduces the freighter’s speed and acceleration depending on the size of the field by up to half.
Given the considerable resources each ship carries, they rarely travel the expected paths, instead using their speed to get above or below the galactic elliptic and traveling at speed without obstacles. To further confound interception, they each use a hyperwave inertial momentum sustainer to avoid grav-traps and may change direction mid-jump.
