Imperial Outpost 561 was established during the reign of Palpatine's Empire - one of many Imperial Outposts established throughout the Outer Rim Territories in a bid to secure and exert control over the region. During its tenure, it served the Empire as a Fuel Depot and an Ordnance/Regional Depot for Star Destroyers and Patrol Fleets that were operating in the area. Its Garrison also served as primary security for the local mining facilities that produced the highly unstable Rhydonium Fuel that was mined on the planet. In the years since the collapse of the Empire and its successor states, the outpost had remained largely untouched - with large portions falling into disrepair - and only small pirate gangs taking up residence in the intervening years. It was only more recently that it was repaired and reequipped due to the efforts of the Corporate Court. |
The region known locally as the Eastern Barrier is a vast mountain range that covers much of the remaining planet and serves as a buffer between the habitable region of Magena-Khos, as the exposed and fragmented sections of the planet. It also serves a secondary role, in that the large mountains - many of which were created during the explosive cataclysm - aid in keeping the remaining atmosphere and weather patterns contained in the habitable sections. The mountains themselves also contain many of the unexploited resources of the planet, with a handful of operations already attempting to free those resources from their rocky confines. |
Secured to a series of rocky outcrops and minor plateaus, is an interesting sight - thin, delicate strands of ice have crystallized, forming these delicate strings that melt and refreeze day in and day out. This creates an appearance of spider webs that have been spun from the tops of the outcrops and plateaus, leading down to the floor below. Much of the region is also covered in a thin layer of this web-like ice, making for an oddly eerie and fascinating sight to behold. |
The Southern Sea is a vast field of semi-permanent ice that grows and contracts throughout the year as Magena-Khos orbits its sun - with the ice being the thickest during the winter months and the thinnest during the summer months. This continued growth and contraction have also caused a number of fissures to develop - which have cost the lives of careless individuals throughout the years. The region is carefully mined, as it still contains one of the largest Rhydonium deposits on the planet - with the process often being slow and delicate to prevent another cataclysm. |
Cresh Mining Facility |
Though there are multiple such facilities that dot the surface of the planet - what makes this specific facility unique is its location. Cresh Mining Facility is the only facility that survived the original cataclysm explosion that tore Magena-Khos apart and ejected a large portion of its crust and mantle into space. Its location on one of the larger chunks - which is still relatively close to the planet though not in danger of being dragged into a collision with the surface - has seen it act in a number of roles throughout the years since its first abandonment. Having served as an outpost for mercenary bands, and hideout for smugglers and pirates alike - it has returned to its role as a Rhydonium facility with its recent stewardship under the Corporate Court. |
The Pinnacle Forest |
A local name for a large swath of strange standing formations that dot portions of the Northern Hemisphere - the Pinnacle Forest contains a number of untapped resources, specifically Iridium, Tungsten, and Mythra. Though holding a great deal of wealth, the danger of potentially harvesting these materials outweighs and profit or potential cost to life and limb - which has been the primary reason that the forest has remained untouched. During the summer months, when the sunlight touches the pinnacles just right, they create a dazzling light show that marks the transition from Summer to Autumn on Magena-Khos. |
The Khos River Valley |
The only source of Fresh Water remaining on the planet, the Khos River Valley was spared the destruction much of the planet suffered due to it being located to the South-West of the Southern Sea - with a large buffer of untouched badlands and mountain ranges between it and ground zero of the explosive incident. The high mountains assist in keeping particulates out of the region, with the area having some of the freshest, untainted air - as individuals can breathe without a recommended breath mask. It is also the only area on the planet that seems to play host to any kind of native flora - other than mosses and lichens found elsewhere on Magena-Khos. The River Valley itself seems to be a perfectly maintained and contained minor-ecosystem, wholly separate from the larger ecosystem of the planet. |

Culture |
The culture of Magena-Khos can be difficult to explain at times - with the people that still live on the planet seeming to be hardier than others of their own species. The unique culture that has developed since the cataclysm incident on the planet is one that is centered around hardships and camaraderie - though there is still a separation between the common individual and the more wealthy - those that work in the various mining facilities and those that profit off of that work. Endeavors such as art are often seen from the viewpoint of the worker, with many pieces created to show the hardships and hard work that each individual puts into their everyday lives - with similar stories being told in verbal epic poems and musical pieces. Society, sports, and even religion all center around hardship, and though there is that disconnect between the wealthy and the workers, society has developed to the point that it is expected that the wealthy take care of those that work for them - with it being common for those wealthy families that would abuse and exploit their workers finding themselves forced off-planet by the other wealthy families to prevent any kind of worker uprising or revolt. |
GOVERNMENT AND ECONOMY |
Government: | Corporatocracy |
Affiliation: | The Corporate Court |
Wealth: | Wealthy |
Stability: | Medium |
WEALTH |
Though there has been a continued industrial presence within the system and on the planet itself, throughout the years, much of the material wealth of the planet - namely its fuel reserves and precious metals - has remained untapped and largely unexploited. This can be seen in large fuel reserves still present on the planet as well as in the larger pieces of Magena-Khos that were blown free during a Peragus like incident. These pieces of crust and mantle also contain vast amounts of precious materials, such as Iridium, Aurodium, and Dolovite - all materials utilized in some manner of technology or manufacturing across the known Galaxy. Other deposits of these materials as well as the remaining Rhydonium reserves have seen a resurgence of attempts to mine and export these materials - with the Corporate Court and their backing being the most recent. |
STABILITY |
Existing in a fragile balance between the workers and the corporations and individuals that employ those workers - laws are overseen by the Corporate Court, with law enforcement delegated directly to the divisions of Locational and Situational Enforcement, and the Corporate Court Security Forces [depending on the situation or incident at hand]. What few major population centers there are - mainly consisting of worker camps and the old Imperial Outpost - are generally safe for individuals or travelers visiting the planet, though outside of these camps can be a bit more hazardous due to small groups of bandits and pirates that have taken up residence in older abandoned mining facilities and outposts. Magena-Khos lacks any kind of actual centralized or even decentralized government entity, with law enforcement and control, as mentioned above, mainly handled by members of the Corporate Court exerting their control over the planet - with their own laws established and handled at their various facilities. The Corporations themselves, present on the planet and answering in turn to the Corporate Court, also exert their own form of justice, keeping the fragile peace in place - often through expelling more exploitative corporations from the planet to prevent a full scale worker's revolt. |
