Major or Minor

Since the beginning of this faction, Sigourney and I made this faction in the hopes of rivalling the biggest and baddest criminal organisations out there. To become what the Hutt Cartel and the Black Suns were to the galaxy, before the Black Suns went to diplomacy, and the Cartel fell on dark times. Though to achieve such a goal, it is prudent that we ask our community here with us what they think?

Give some opinions and what you would like to see us achieve.

If going big to rival the largest criminal organizations was your main mission statement, I say go for the major faction move. The Black Suns/Hutt Cartel haven't been active for an extremely long time and I've been yearning for the chance to see some big ol' crime syndicate to interrupt the usual flow of Sith-Mando-Jedi musings around the galaxy.

Sure there'll be debate about your decision around the board, but what faction hasn't been through that before? None. Don't worry about what everyone else thinks. Just do what you intended to do and make dang sure that you're the best at it.

Best of luck ladies and gents, I'm glad to be writing in this faction.

I feel that this is a unique faction, and that with our core members were are able to doing things that no other faction is doing or has ever done. I agree with the original mission statement-- to be the biggest, most efficient, and most feared criminal organization on this board.

New member here, but i would lean towards Major.

However i'de like to throw in my little opinion on how to do it, Criminal factions shouldn't be seen as governments, this is a flaw that i've always found with Black Sun. Way back when I was RP'ing a Jedi and i dealt with Black Sun they considered themselves a legitimate governemnt of the worlds they owned on the map. Not sure if thats still true, but i always thought it was incredibly silly.

The way i would envision a criminal major faction to run is through control of the underground. IE every planet has a strong Criminal gang/mob/etc... of some sort, each of these gangs pay tribute to the Red Ravens(Because were boss) but the individual planetary governments are still separate and don't actually fall under any major governmental authority. Essentially the Red Ravens become a shadow government, not recognized by any official eye but people know that if you mess with a world that pays tribute to the Red Ravens, you'll get sliced. Pun intended.

I vote major because it would put us the map. One thing though if we do this a little organization is called for, especially in invasions. We can't go into them thinking as individuals. Group goals and targets would help in the long term.

As long as the fighting against others proceed in a more stealthy manner, instead of full out war, I agree with the idea. And by stealthy, I mean assasination of political and military figures, buying out corrupt officers, bribing guards to look the other way while we bomb convoy routes, sponsoring pirates to disrupt naval movement, and other such things.

We won't survive long if they come gunning for us with an army.

Unfortunately, if other factions want to invade, they want to invade. We could negotiate that most invasions are in a manner you described, but some will undoubtedly want armies and navies.

At this point our armies would have to be grouped together pirate fleets and heavily outfitted swoop gangs and the like. Nothing official of course, just well equipped groups that function as a defense force. While that "army" holds the enemy it would be up to us, Slicers, mercs, etc... to get key targets and force the enemy to retreat.

If we can't convince them to a war of subterfuge, then we can use pirates and gangs as you mentioned. But the thing is, we can also use diplomacy in this. As you mentioned, we don't rule the planets. We're no where near the official leadership as far as many people are concerned. We still have them in our pockets, but hey, that's just between us.

If they want to invade one of our planets, we can start a media campaign against them and everybody that is with them, paying off people left and right to get them off our ass, be they mercs or other factions. If we are to fight, I'd say we do it Vietcong style. We know the sewers, we know the alleyways, we know which shop and casino have secret passages and back entrances, we know which tunnels our merchandise is transported through to avoid the authorities. Hit and run guerrilla tactics, combined with scorched earth.

After all, street gangs aren't gonna put up that much of a headon fight against military personnel, armed and trained by systems spanning federations.

Indeed.

However its important to remember that by going Major, you add a certain OOC thinking to things. You gain territory on the map, and 90% of the time people think about that territory in an OOC matter, but yet this can be counteracted by what both you and i stated.

I think most people would gladly go for less traditional invasions anyway.

Yep. I pity the treasurer tho', having to tell Lysle that our credit balance is plummeting and our bank accounts emptied to funnel any resistance to outside aggression.

Great ideas and input, guys! Glad to see that we're all roughly on the same page regarding faction direction. :)
