Making Our Way

The white cup in her rather little hands was rather hot, making her feel slight irritation, but she managed to hold it steadily while strolling through downtown. She was typically not the person who'd spend her free time in the busiest part of a city, but that day was special. Who cared about yesterday? Life was too short in Lilin's mind to waste it on keeping doing what one was used to.

If she felt like walking around the city, that's what she did.

A sip of coffee, even though she preferred cocoa in most cases, made her feel the burst of energy she needed that day. Walking was an exhausting thing when one did it for as long as she had moved around, so a little bit of boost was the least she could give herself.

She took a look around and figured out the streets were not that crowded at all. It was still morning and a lot earlier than Lilin typically stayed awake at, so people were mostly taking the sleep they needed before a workday. She didn't have to work -- she didn't even have a job. But she did understand what those who had jobs understood.

Making her way to the park, she listened to something she rarely heard in the noise of a city. A song of a bird came to her ears. She fell in love with its raw beauty in an instant and she felt like it was something she could listen to forever. A thought crossed her mind: maybe she didn't want to hear the loud banging, honking and buzzing of a city at all anymore?

She smiled.

Some thoughts were meant to remain what they were -- thoughts. And that one was exactly one of these. Of course she wouldn't move to the countryside again. But everybody needed some rest, some silence in their lives.

And she continued walking through the park she had just entered.

The park.

She had always liked parks. She had always liked nature.

Not as much as Maleah of course, her little sister would regularly allow bugs to crawl all over her, and one time she had had an ant-farm in her room. Not in a small glass window pane like a normal child, but in the middle of her room. Mother and Father had not been thrilled by that, yet somehow Maleah had kept the ants from spreading.

Aela was not capable of doing that. She could control Nexu, Reek, and even Titavian's for a short time, but thousands upon thousands of tiny ants? She didn't even have a shot at that many minds.

For a few seconds her gaze shifted, looking towards the nearby trees where a flock of birds rested. She watched them, smiling and looking to them as though they were a part of her. One of them looked directly at her, making a strange noise. Aela smiled, then looked towards the crowd of people slowly moving towards her.

She briefly wondered what their lives were like, if they were filled with as much chaos as hers was about to be.

Lilin took a seat on one of the cold wooden benches in the park. It was slightly wet as it was still early morning, but she did not let that bother her experience. She listened to the birds singing their simple songs, drank her warm creamy coffee and just enjoyed life that morning. There was no hurry at all, even though she knew crowds of people would be dominating the cityscape soon.

She heard a strange noise coming from around her and looked at the way it had come from. It had been likely produced by a bird, but she did not understand why.

Until she saw a person a little bit away. Judging by her looks, she was older than Lilin, but not too much. Was it an interplanetary young people's walk in the park day and she had heard nothing about it? Probably not. But it was definitely interesting to see anybody else around.

After seconds of gazing at the girl, she turned her eyes away and focused on the grass around her -- so untouched by the grayness of the city, so strong to grow out of the madness of the world. She loved grass. She loved parks.

Yet she couldn't keep her attention away from the other girl. Every now and then, she took a small peak at her to see what she was doing. She was not that far away from her yet, so she could have just shouted something at her.

Would she have then tried ignore her?

It was not a good idea to shout anything, actually. A less awkward way of talking to her was just getting up and walking right to her.

She could have done that, but at that moment, she thought it would be the best to remain seated and wait for the girl to come a little bit closer. She liked meeting new people, indeed, but she did not want to seem too eccentric about it. Common sense was something she seemed to lack every once in a while and at these moments, she knew keeping doing what she had been doing was the right thing to do.

Aela kept walking.

One foot forward, then the next, then the next. It was simple, easy, and therapeutic. Of course walking was a basic human necessity, but sometimes, sometimes there was something more to it. She smiled slightly as she just let herself go, walking and taking a path deeper and deeper into the park.

Soon she wouldn't have the time for this anymore, soon everything would be different.

Chaos would take hold in her life. Strife and combat. She knew that because she was leading herself to it, because part of her wanted it. Not the war, not the battle or the killing, but the act of doing good. She wanted to make the galaxy a better place.

To do that she would have to face the chaos.

Aela bit her lip slightly as she thought about it, her eyes shifting to look at a person nearby. She didn't recognize them of course, but she offered the girl a thin smile.

Lilin kept her eyes on the girl as she got closer and closer, not caring about coming off as a weirdo. She thought it was not other people's role to judge her by what she did. And just looking at somebody was something basic all humans did, no matter whether they admitted to that or not, the Padawan thought. So keep on staring, she told herself.

Then the person smiled, to which she smiled back. She'd heard a smile in the morning can make a person's day far brighter, so one good deed for herself -- done. After congratulating herself with another sip of the tasty coffee, she set the cup aside and stood up.

The other girl was close enough to talk to her and she thought she'd use that chance to make her day even better than it was. She didn't know what the wanderer had in her mind, but she did know positive emotions were far greater to feel than this calm seriousness of the world.

"Hello! Have a nice day!" she took the courage to speak to the girl.

Well, that was weird.

Aela stopped in her tracks.

She had never been the most social, she had never been the most talkative. Out of all of her siblings that was Micah. He was the one that so easily made friends, the one that had no problem engaging with strangers and had little to no issue in asking for what he wanted. Aela never really saw the point. It wasn't that she was nervous around others, it was simply that to her, it didn't make any sense.

Of course that was changing now.

She was part of the Covenant, she along with Mara were technically in charge. They were the oldest, and they guided the others. That required her to be social, that required her to do something. Her lips thinned slightly, and she looked at the other girl.

“Hello.” Aela said almost as quiet as a mouse.

Lilin could see the other girl was feeling slightly uncomfortable. She didn't have such a problem often. Being a social person, she loved talking to others, although she also loved listening to others or being completely quiet. Yet she could never remain silent for the whole eternity.

"Sorry!" she whispered shortly after hearing the girl's answer.

She took the cup to her hand and, whether the other person wanted to sit or not, she held the seat open for her. Though probably after such a random encounter, she would have ran away. That's how things typically went. People like Lilin were often seen like weirdos. She had grown used to that.

Her mouth wanted to utter another sentence, but she thought if the girl didn't quite like talking to strangers, small talk was also not her thing. Yet she felt like she'd have to do something. She couldn't just let her leave after having the brief conversation.

"Is it your first time here, on this planet?" That's the moment when the author decides to mention the thread's going on on a random planet with no importance whatsoever.

For a moment she paused.

She tried to observe the girl, figure out who she was. For some odd reason, a reason that she could not quite understand or explain, she seemed familiar. That odd inkling that touched the back of her neck seemed to come over her, and Aela frowned slightly as an odd sense of dejavu began to creep up into her thoughts.

“Uuuh.” For a second she was startled, not only by the girls friendliness, but by the question. “Yes.”

That wasn't exactly true, but it was the first time that she had wandered around this world.

As of late she had been visiting more and more planetary bodies, gaining support from governments, organizations, and whoever else she could possibly think of. Progress was admittedly rather slow, but it was something that she knew she needed to do if they were to succeed.

And she wanted them to suceed.

LIlin nodded at the reply. Even though it was a short answer -- something she could rarely give -- she understood. The other girl was obviously a not too social person. At least with strangers.

"Nice to meet you, by the way! I'm Lilin," she spoke, standing up and lending her hand to the girl for a handshake.

Talking to people was something Lilin herself had done for a long time, ever since her early childhood. She spoke freely with those living in her home village, but they didn't talk back. It was good to have somebody listen, but that wasn't what she wanted. A part of her, the energy draining part, made others feel uncomfortable around her, even though she could do nothing against it.

There was just no way she could turn that off.

She'd also come to accept the fact that she tended to talk so much that others just lost interest in hanging around with her. In the later years, she had started to control it, but earlier, it had caused her to lose a few friends.

This time it wouldn't happen.
