Mapping the Tingel Arm: Part I - The Fire of Vahla

Baroness Magrath

Guest
How many times had she found herself sitting in this room in recent memory? It was a question she was asking herself as she leaned back in the seat, her slender fingers resting upon the over sized arm rests of the chair. The dull blue hue of the map pulsing in the room, bathing it in a soft glow. Quietly she studied the map, and even though there was a great deal that had been revealed, there were still other corners left in the darkness. To find such places before others would due great service to herself and her family.

Though the nagging problem remained, and her eyes fell upon the Silver Sanctum Coalition, the government that could just as easily step into her system and sweep aside all she worked for. With a heavy sigh her grip tightened upon the arm rest of her chair, then the noise began as small items and curios began to shimmy and shake about. The woman having a hard time controlling her emotions as she thought of all that she could lose and what it would mean.

It wasn't until she took another deep breath was she able to calm herself, pulling herself back from the brink. She had never truly felt like she belonged to one side or the other when it came to the Force; though it seemed apparent just where her true alliance lay. Slowly she began to tap her fingers upon the arm rest, her eyes falling upon the small areas of the Tingel Arm that remained untouched, small points of black in the blinking, shining points of the map.

A soft smirk crossing her lips as she understood what had to be done. Quietly she pressed her finger upon the console at her side. The crackling speaker taking a moment to awaken to life before the voice came through clearly.

"Yes Mistress."

"Send out a message. I want explorers. Colonists, anyone willing to and wanting to discover what has yet to be seen in the Tingel Arm."

"Of course Mistress."

"Ensure that the proper incentives are given."

"Yes Mistress."

The voice crackled before the speak shut off, the woman's slender fingers wrapping around the goblet that rest at her side. Taking a slow, long sip of the sanguine liquid with in as a smirk crossed her lips. Now she would see just how many would answer the call.

To whom it concerns,

There are corners of the Galaxy in which light has not shown, and those places are ripe for the taking; to be discovered and claimed by the intrepid explorers that seek them out. Thus this message is to you, to those that seek their fortune and desire to find a place to settle and call their own.

The Baroness Magrath of Avidon has begun the Tingel Mapping Initiative.

It is her desire to map as much of the Tingel Arm as possible and to ensure that those worlds not fall to outside influence; to ensure that the Tingel Arm remains strong and self reliant, dependent upon none save for themselves. Ever since the expulsion from their home-world, the Vahla had been a travelling people. They had explored the far reaches of the galaxy and returned, sometimes. Yet, they could not find back to their home. The prophecy was clear: When the Jedi are gone, their embers reveal the way to home. Until then, home was where they placed their heads. Joycelyn was a half-breed, a strange bastard mixture of Epicanthix royalty and a Vahla priestess. Yet the adventurer spirit burned as strongly in her veins as in any other.

The advert reached her while she was enjoying an interesting mixture of flavours based on half-frozen blue milk. Who knew fruit and dairy would mix so well? The thick liquid crossed her lips as she sipped it through a metal straw, scrolling on a datapad. There it was: The Tingel Arm.

"My, my."

Zooming in, she scoured over the known stars and planets, then the fogged area of uncharted space.

"Maybe, only maybe."

Her head went silent for a moment, a dramatic pause of thought as every fibre in her body directed itself in one direction. I am taking it. She gulped down the rest of the half-frozen milk and placed a few credits on the counter before storming out. Speeders sped past above, casting a perpetually shifting line of shadows over the pedestrian paths. Pulling on the leather jacket, she carried herself with long strides towards the spaceport where her ship stood docked. It was an S90 MAAT, once used by the Sith Empire before she was old enough to stand, but later discarded in the wake of their collapse. The navy markings had been covered and painted over, giving the ship a sleek look with a few details to mark it as belonging to the Migrant Fleet of the Vahla. She had called it the Starseeker.
