Maria tries to show herself as a strong, confident and cold woman who has no feelings. The slaves serving Arx Mortis shiver even when they see the shadow of her, even though in the inside, she is just as caring as an average person is. This has caused her to be known as The Witch of Arx Mortis. Due to being exiled from the actual homeworld of Epicanthix and then from her own homeworld Nar Shaddaa, she craves for power in the Outer Rim territories, often being as successful as her famous cousin Kaine Zambrano. In her mind, she has but one goal - via combining her love for family and realm, she tries to make her own house which is far better than the tyrannical force which resides of Panatha.
Though being a Darksider, Maria does not hate Lightsiders, but sees Ashla as too mainstream and boring to use it. As having nothing serious against Jedi, she could be found having a simple conversation with one of them whenever one may visit Crystalsong. Due to being an Epicanthix and being immune to everything which deals with her mentality, she sees herself as a lot stronger person than others, even though it's actually not quite true.

The Era of Nar Shaddaa
Maria Natalja Zambrano was born to Servelus Zambrano and an unknown mother who died just a few months after giving birth to the kid. Raised by the father who loved her from his heart, she had a great life and was known for her generosity and friendliness. The powerful ecumenopolis gave her many opportunities to find friends, but she tended to stay alone, playing with just her father. Not did she nor Servelus know, that they were lucky because of that. When being only twelve years old, her father was seen as a threat in the eyes of the government of Nar Shaddaa and they had to find a new home where they could hide from the police. Having no friends, the family was able to exile silently without anybody knowing where they ended up after leaving. It was tragic experience for Maria and having many near-death experiences caused her to abandon her father and start living her life in the imagined worlds of her mind. Servelus tried to get closer to her daughter, but with no luck. Even though they spent every day for ten more years together, they heard not a single word from each other and thus, little did the father know about her daughter's wishes and dreams.
The Witch of Arx Mortis
What could have been better for a young girl who live in her imagination than getting a citadel of her own on a rather mystical planet. The dark castle later named as Arx Mortis was a gift from Servelus who was already near becoming mad because of being mentally and emotionally separated from her only daughter. The building was far more than just a simple gift, as it was the only thing which was able to bring Maria back to the real world. Being only 22 years old, she was young, but already independent enough to start her own life on Crystalsong, in a castle of her own. Having no influence on the planet didn't matter to this woman as she could have been described as euphoric at that time for not realizing what's actually happening. Her father left her, but visited her often, bringing more slaves (especially male ones) to her daughter as gifts. They did not forget each other at all, as they visited each other at holidays and birthdays. The life of Maria was getting fantastic again. Then came the day when Maria met her lovely cousin Kaine Zambrano. On a day she went to visit him, intending to learn a bit more of her family and her lovely cousin. However, she was warmly greeter by the Sith Lord, and she actually liked staying in the Vain Hallow Citadel a bit. During the time she was there, she learned much about the family and some other things she had never heard of before. After staying in the citadel for some time, however, Maria felt like she should leave and so she did. She said her goodbyes to the man and left to her own citadel on Crystalsong.
Learning that her cousin is already a powerful Lord, Maria decided it's time to start doing her own things, and by that she meant, learning the Force. She wanted to master the power of Telekinesis and so she talked with her slaves in order to make them teach it to her. They were gladly willing to help her, so they set up a set of tasks for her to perform, and she was successful. Slaves thought she is quite good in Telekinesis, although not proficient, but good.
Her self-training was followed up by getting a real Master, a Knight known as Astrian Callus. At first, he terrified Maria a lot, but soon she started even liking her new Master. He taught her in the ways of Djem So and hand-to-hand combat, touching both of them only a little, but enough for Maria to independently learn them or if not, then just get a bit better in such skills. However, the relationship between her and the man got really interesting when the training was over and Maria decided to let the man sleep in her own master suite.
During Maria's reign, she got to do many adventurous things, but the most interesting for her was an adventure with the one going by the name of Asterion. Together, they broke into Sir Rylan Turow, Sr.'s private museum and stole artefacts from inside. Their relationship still makes Maria wonder as they had gone from enemies to trusting friends in a matter of minutes.
The Witch of the Jedi Order
Maria slowly started to understand the Light Side of the Force was the true good side of the mystical energy, so her faith in the darkness collapsed. And even though she was a member of the powerful Zambrano dynasty, she knew she'd have to change sides.After months of thinking, the woman finally left her Arx Mortis Citadel on Crystalsong, setting it on fire and thus, hopefully killing all of its inhabitants besides herself. The woman, however, ran away after having told both Kaine Zambrano and her slaves of what she'd be doing next. Maria escaped the planet and travelled to the Republic space where she met the Jedi Grandmaster Kiskla Grayson on Umbara. Together, they stood against hunters who were there to get Maria, but the hunters failed.
Miss Grayson took the now Jedi Maria as her Padawan. To let go of her past, the Ephicanthix forgot her family name and took her middle name Natalja as her official last name. As a Jedi, she trained under the Grandmaster's lead and tried to get rid of the inner darkness.
As a Padawan, she was a member of the Republic, Order of the Silver Jedi and Levantine Sanctum, but as she lost control over herself and turned to the dark side of the Force for weeks with no good reason, she left the latter three and tried to focus on only one of her factions. And even though the woman was still troubled, she got promoted to the rank of Jedi Knight and she finally got to take a Padawan called Caleb Brolen.
The Dawn of Alliance
With the death of the Galactic Republic and the One Sith Empire following the events of Omega, Maria was shaken. Her safe realm was gone and her whole world was turned around. For months, she was in exile in the outskirts of the galaxy, hiding herself from any danger, especially from the one Kaine Zambrano.It took the woman months to admit to herself that her only way to survive was to get to the Galactic Alliance and join its New Jedi Order despite everything she had against that faction.
Only after making it to the faction did Maria understood how wrong she had been about everything before. The faction was something more than a safe sanctuary to her -- it quickly turned into her home and was even better than the Galactic Republic had been. She missed her actual home she had left behind, but at least she could feel safe now.
