Though small and slim, her body is strong and moves with a certain precision, on account of her skills in the Echani martial arts. Mariana is often seen wearing the traditional garb of southern Eshan rural peasantry; wrapped-front robes with square sleeves and a rectangular body.

An Echani woman through and through, Mariana was born into a poor farming family with little money in the deeper rural landscapes of southern Eshan. As she got older, she was sent to trade with the local cities on behalf of her family, and it was on of these excursions where she met her future husband, Jedi Knight Cassius. When they eventually married, Mariana left her family farm and the two moved to the city, Cassius splitting his time between Eshan and the Jedi Order. During this time, Cassius made for her a pair of earrings made from a kyber crystal.
When Mariana fell pregnant with Everest, Mariana wanted her to grow up in a more natural environment. Around the same time, she inherited her family's farm, and the two decided to move back to the wilderness. Everest was born and the young family had six wonderful years together. When Cassius went missing on a journey into Sith space, Mariana was the only one there to support little Everest. In the following year when word got out that her husband had disappeared, local raiders came to take the farm and the Vales for themselves. Mariana took Everest and retreated into the hidden underground shelter below the farmhouse, and narrowly avoided a dreadful fate, but she was unable to avoid the destruction of their home.
The following year was extremely difficult for the mother and daughter, spending much of it camping in the woodland as vagrants, until a mysterious benefactor appeared in their life who Mariana recognised as a Jedi. Mariana desperately asked of information about her husband, but the Jedi was unable to help. However, she recognised the Force sensitivity in young Everest, and decided to help the mother and daughter get back on their feet. Taking from her own personal funds, the Jedi aided the Vales in setting up a new home in the wilderness. The noble act inspired the young Everest and, being told she would be accepted into the Jedi Order should she want, decided that she would join when she was older.
The two spent the following years building a good life for each other. Mariana, whilst maintaining a homestead and small farm, cared deeply for Everest to the fullest capacity that she could on her own, raising Everest into the fine young women she became, who mirrored her own values of compassion and kindness.
Since Everest's departure for the New Jedi Order, Mariana has spent her time discovering new hobbies and returning to old ones, and has started spending more time with her close friends May and Chandra.
