Master-Apprentice Relationship

"Kark you, I won't do what you tell me."
Hello.

So I was talking with some of my fellow RPers over Skype, and a good idea for a character flashed into my mind.

The idea is essentially to create a character who is extremely old fashioned and follows the Jedi Code to a tee. He would strongly dislike or shun anything he considered to be taboo in his own mind. He would act in much the same way as the traditional Jedi of the old did, in that he would rarely involve himself in conflicts that were not directly involving him. I think this would be a refreshing idea, due to the influx of Rouge, Dark, and Sith we've had recently. Someone old fashioned, bigoted, ignorant, and slightly foolish seems like a decent change of pace to me. How does that sound? I'd like some input on both the idea, and whether or not anyone would consider taking me under their wing? If it's a bad idea tell me, and if it's a good one; great! I need a Master of course if I want to get this started, so any volunteers?

There seem to be plenty of old style, classical Jedi Code-following Jedi in the Republic as of late. I mean, there's nothing wrong with the idea, it's just probably not as refreshing as you might think.

It doesn't sound like a Jedi Code-following Jedi to me. I think the character idea is fine (although what are they bigoted against?) but that's in no way someone who adheres strictly to the Code.

I agree that there are a number of us in the Jedi Order that are more traditional....however none of us, to my knowledge, are bigoted, ignorant, or foolish (perhaps sometimes foolish!).

I wasn't sure if your post was intended to be humorous or not. It certainly made me chuckle, but I'm not sure it was supposed to. But you've stirred up quite a hornet's nest. :)

I think a lot of Jedi follow the Code to a T (although we all interpret it differently of course) but I'm not sure where that would fit in with then being bigoted (a Jedi respects all other life forms), old-fashioned (a Jedi does not cling to the past) or ignorant (there is no ignorance, there is knowledge). Foolish I suspect is still up for grabs :)

The idea of the character sounds interesting and different for sure by the way. Why not go for it? But you may have to compromise on the criteria :)

I guess my lack of Roleplay with Jedi is being exposed.

I phrased it poorly. I think a word that would have gotten the job done a bit better would have been naivety. I wanted to create a character who wasn't necessarily intolerant of other peoples beliefs but he was set firmly on traditionalist values that would be considered extremely outdated by today's standards. Someone who has never experienced the outside world and isn't quite able to comprehend why someone would go to the Dark Side when one side is so obviously right, and when one side is so obviously wrong. Things like that. Am I making sense now, or am I still crazy? Hell, maybe something like this has already been done before. That's why I make threads like these, to avoid poor RP decisions. Thanks for all the feedback I've gotten so far.

[member="Nulgath Zardai"] What do you mean?

[member="Captain Jordan"] Replace bigoted with the word traditionalist. He would be the kind of person that would never change his views no matter how much evidence was brought forth. Though he wouldn't be the kind of person that would retroactively shun others for holding beliefs he didn't agree with.

[member="Kian Karr"] RIP to my idea then.

[member="Corvus Raaf"] Phrased it a bit better now perhaps? Think, young and foolish.

Naive and foolish we can certainly handle!!!!

Everyone was once where you are now. There's no shame in it unless you refuse to grow.

(For the record, I'm still growing with my writing abilities, so don't think there's actually a limit.)

'We see the world not as it is, but as we are.'

Your rephrasing sounds a lot like Corvus. Maybe others see her as you originally stated? It's quite possible.

And your revised version sounds very plausible :)
