Master Maker

[member="Xalus"] Ehh, that's the second time I've read this on this site and I think that leaves too much up to chance with the Master ranked individuals, assuming that they are keeping up with everyone involved in the threads. This has a tendency to produce a 'good ole boys' club where you have to be friends with someone in the group to get in (maybe not here, but I have seen it happen as a result of this sort of mentality). I think it shouldn't be frowned up to have a review request process, allowing for those who think themselves deserved of mastership to request a progress report sort of thing (maybe they can make the request once every 6 months or 3 months or whatevs). This would open up an OOC conversation as to the expectations of the group for what Masters should be capable of along with the necessary development.

I realize this is a bit of an ironic thing coming from someone who had their master rank transferred from a different site, but I don't buy the whole "we'll give it to you when you have earned it" bit. This isn't to say that those in master rank, and capable of allowing promotion, are bad at doing this sort of thing...I'm sure they are great at it. But no one is perfect and everyone is capable of bias. (i.e. I'm more likely to recognize someone's potential for master rank when I write with them, as opposed to someone I don't write with). We all need reminders every once in a while.

Generally SWRP favors quick and fast master promotions.

The fastest i've ever had a character promoted to master was 3 months. I was in every invasion, every skirmish, and had over 50 threads with her by the time she was promoted. All i can say to getting promoted is, be active, make your presence known in the faction, and make a name for yourself.

That will get you promoted.

So for you personally, Morgoth. I had planned to put up your vote as well as a few others after the next invasion.

Or you can wait until the staff monthly caps you twice.

*Waves little flag.*

Woo.

I rather like the idea of "You will earn it" Because I don't want a lot of people running around who will play god way to often, nor do I want a Master running around the causes a lot of trouble from an OOC stand point. If you want master, then you will act like a Master.

Plain and simple.

As well, just gonna leave this quote.

"Those who believe they are ready, are not."

The way I see it, the title beneath someone's name isn't what determines their capability, but more their creativity and writing. The process of moving up in rank is merely an indirect measurement of this capability (and not always fully accurate as there will always be outliers). There is a lot of growth in writing when one is limited to a specific thing (force powers and strength, for instance).

That being said, there is so much more to writing here that goes beyond ranking...to the point that achieving Master should have no bearing on it. There will always be people on the site that you haven't written with yet, and thus there will always be room for connections and development. It's not an end game, it's just a supplement...a new avenue to writing your character.

I typically don't care about ranks either. The only useful things I see in having a master rank is the seniority and the leadership that comes with it. In canon, you don't tend to see Sith Lords and Jedi Masters just doing nothing. They're typically teaching others, leading armies and fleets, being on councils, and all that other jazz.

To me, knight is the perfect rank. Enough strength to hold your own against a master, enough wisdom to teach an apprentice, and more than enough room for improvement. Please let me know via PM if you knights wish not to be nominated for mastery just yet and I can happily oblige.

I want to hold out until I feel like I've learned something worth being known for. Right now Silara is simply more skilled in the things she was taught by Veles, with a few minor additions. I still have a few select skills I am looking to learn and eventually master, a few of which are now luckily in my grasp.

I would also like to wait for Mierin to return, but I'm not sure if my master will ever come back to me.

I have been very busy in real life and distracted by other stuff on here.

I'll be NPC'ing Mierin in our thread since she didn't die or anything of the like. It's been up in my tabs for quite a while i just haven't gotten to it. I'll post by this saturday.
