Master of Ships

Rutan
Carrion Company Complex
Arlan sat at his desk, eyes locked upon a view-screen as he contemplated which contracts to authorize and which to veto. In recent days Arlan's time had been consumed by duties befitting that of a clerk, not a soldier, but someone had to do it and whom better than he. Today though, aside from the mundane duties he was now engaged in, Arlan had a bit of important business to take care of for the coming months. Growth of The Carrion Company was Arlan's primary focus since it's refounding, but that growth had been stagnating for some time. With a recent influx of contracts, and therefore profit, Arlan had devised a plan by which he could double the company's galactic presence. That plan, however; hinged on a meeting he was soon to attend.

Arlan had heard of Mirak Weyard through one of his various employees, who in turn had heard about him whilst out on a job, and was profoundly impressed by his resume. While Arlan was a half-decent commander during fleet combat, he was by no means a strategist but Mirak was a legitimate admiral. Arlan was planning to invest heavily in a small fleet of ships for The Carrion Company, but a man to oversee said fleet was needed. Mirak seemed to be that man, and though Arlan had to first convince him to sign on with the company hopes were high for the mercenary leader. Striding through the hallways of the complex Arlan quickly approached the meeting chambers where he would prepare himself and await his guest.

"Gulivar, this is Zy'rosh." Arlan spoke over the comm-link as he took his seat at the head of a long table centered in the meeting room. Soon thereafter a raspy voice responded, one belonging to the portly Guard-Captain Gulivar. "Yes sir?" Arlan then took a moment to look over the documents on his view-screen before sighing and speaking yet again. "When Admiral Mirak arrives send him to meeting room one, I'm here already." Arlan finished, but decided to add one last thing. "And tell the boys to be on their best behavior."

Weyard was not too fond of mercenaries, he had not the best experience with them and his command, and found them to be radical if not rebellious at best. This was not to say that mercs had no skill, and unreliable, simply that they were not soldiers, it wasnt about justice, and serving one's people, or government, or whatever. They cared only about the credits, and how many things they could blow up before their employer told them to chill the kark out.

Still, maybe that was where Mirak was needed, some free formed mercenary company. Arian was, the old man had to admit, a decent man who put others before him, or so Mirak thought. When Arian had heard of Mirak, they both were just learning of the other for the first time. He had been given a message via his private contact number, asking for a business meeting, and a job offer. It was a curious offer, and it peaked Weyard's curiosity enough that he decided to take the man on the meeting.

Rutan was a ways away from home, he had actually never been on the planet, though he knew it was a planet of history. When he reached the man's base of operations, a man stood waiting for him, telling him to find his way to room one. Mirak was already seeing that rebellious nature of mercs. It was invigorating, but he kept his peace. He felt the eyes on his back, some of the probably weighing whether he was worth the companies efforts, and paycheck.

He sighed as he finally found himself at room one, and straightened his old Imperial Uniform. Now that he thought about it, that was probably why they had that look in their eyes when they stared at him, Imperials were not friends to these people he took it. Still, he wasnt an Imperial anymore, though he took heart of it's naval codes of conducts, he was a man of his own ways.

Mirak opened the door where Arian was already sitting, waiting for the old man. Arian reminded him of his first superior, a aura of respect, and rightness glowed around him. That was good, Weyard wasnt sure if he should how to greet the man, so he stood straight with his hands clasped behind his back as if he was in the presence of a commanding officer but one that had no say over him...yet.

"Mr. Zy'Rosh, it is a pleasure to meet you in person. I am Admiral Mirak Weyard, well retired Admiral Weyard."

Weyard took a step forward with his hand moving to his front to give Arian a handshake.

So it was, that the old Imperial Admiral entered the meeting chambers. The automatic door would slowly slide shut behind him with a hiss as the dimly lit room came to life, the overhead lights brightening and filling the room. Arlan sat, hands crossed for a moment, eyes locked upon the gruff officer as he stood in perfect confidence, a trait many did not posses in Arlan's presence, and it was truly a refreshing sight. Then Arlan stood, nodding to Mirak and placing his hands behind his back as he moved out from behind the table and approached. Though many in Arlan's sort of business like to keep things as impersonal as possible, Arlan had always been the opposite. When time, and present company, would allow it he Arlan preferred face to face meetings over holo-communication. Of course that sort of thinking may well have been behind the times and a bit old fashioned, Arlan was anything but conventional. So as he grew nearer to Mirak his right hand would extend in hopes of receiving an earnest shake, something he believed true men of character often sought.

"I am pleased you accepted my invitation Admiral. We aren't all up to spec here, still doing a hell of a lot of work getting the company flushed out." Arlan spoke as he motioned about the room in reference to the entire compound. "If you can believe it we are a lot better off than we were a year ago. I'm actually able to outsource three times as many contracts as I could six months ago, and we still got a good bit of growing yet." Arlan quipped as he continued, smiling now as he looked upon Mirak in his clean and pressed uniform. "And that, my dear admiral, is why you are here. I want you to aide in that expansion, if you are willing."

With that Arlan would wait, gauging the room as it were. He was a direct man, hating internal politics and negotiating, something he found many of his comrades shared in. Now though Arlan needed to conduct himself with as much tact as he could muster. Imperials liked to be puffed up, generally, and The Carrion Company was in dire need of a naval conductor if it was to increase it's operational scope. Admiral Weyard might have been a bit seasoned, but his resume was impressive and if he did join the ranks of the company it would be a great boon. Putting aside his ability to command, his name carried weight and that meant a few more eyes would willing turn towards The Carrion Company when considering their options for hired muscle. That, however, would all be relative if Arlan could not convince the old spacer to sign on.
