Matsu Xiangu

This subforum has been around for a while, and I've not gotten to putting this out there.

Matsu is my loner, something of a starry-eyed sorceress. My original intention was to have her be a far more physical Force-user with telekinetics and all that, but as with all characters that take root she took on a life of her own and went in her own direction!

In that time, I've settled on mentalism and sorcery for her. When it comes to all the things I originally intended she's average to crap, especially saber combat.

Though she's Sith, I've never intended for her to be fire and brimstone. More of a creepy spider with the ability to shift her ideals where it suits her own ends.

Now she's mute as well. Valiens Nantaris hit her in the face with a lightsaber.

I'm mostly interested in impressions of her because I've always written her as a loner, and having rather complicated motivations on the surface but I'm also open to likes and dislikes, or just simply what you'd like to see.

Have at me, ye dogs.

Take me~

Edit: In all seriousness, Matsu Xiangu has always been one of my most favorite Sith to occasionally look up and read. I especially love that she's more of a sorceress rather than a gung-ho melee death machine wizard (like me!), so her approach to dealing with obstacles in her greater quest for power/money/knowledge/booty is different and unique.

Plus her spider personality as you said earlier is delicious :p

Soon tm!

Seriously though, I think you are a great writer and you have indeed a very creative mind, so I am looking forward for further interactions with you and your characters :)

I know we've never written together, but I've read quite a fair share of your posts in invasions and other threads we've been together in, and I have to say they're absolutely great in the detail and portrayal of the character. Matsu has always intrigued me, and you write her in such a graceful manner that it's just about possible to forget the terrible things she's capable of with how supposedly dainty she is on the surface. Long story short, I love your writing and love how you depict her, and always have. It'd be nice to get a chance to write with you sometime. :)

Edit: Also, I can appreciate your music taste insofar as what I've seen in some of your posts. So bonus points for that as well.

I like that you typically refrain from going God-mode, casting Force Storms and using such abilities deemed to be rare in source materials. I also like the sorcery-class of Sith/Dark Siders so that's a big plus. Plus, to me, Matsu being something of a loner is much more realistic to what I feel a Sith should be. She's also insidious and creepy, not Snidely Whiplash evil, tying damsels to train tracks.

Matsu achieves being unique by her writer not feeling like she needs to be Skywalker-esque in terms of her power. I think you set a good example for what our writers should strive for.

First of all, you've really hit the nail on the head as I hoped people perceived her and this makes me SO happy. Delicate and graceful to the point you have to force yourself to remember she's probably thinking you'd look better as a corpse in her army. Thanks for your feedback. :)

My skirmish is winding down. I 10000% want a thread with you because it's stupid that I haven't asked already lol. PM incoming once it's wrapped up and I can post as a normal human does.

Matsu is pretty and dainty but also marginally terrifying. So congrats on achieving nightmare status. :p

I apologize in advance for Keira probably being a terrible person because her policy with Sith is more or less shoot on sight, so that should be...fun?

[member="Matsu Xiangu"] is one of those characters I have never interacted with, but certainly drawn inspiration from. She is gorgeously graceful yet grotesquely competent, all hidden in the most fashionable package the Sith have ever seen. 'Growing up' on Chaos, watching Matsu at work among other legends of the One Sith has forever changed how I view and write darksided characters.

Also, I like your arms. They are really badass.

Very much this.

Fabulous writer, you are. I wish I had had more of a chance to write with you. The chance I did have with your Jedi was great and fun, your writing seems naturally layered with character's emotions and life experiences that always come through making your writing fun to read.

Also...

So glad that spider sig is gone. *shudders*

:p

It's been a fair while since I've read your works I'm afraid, yet idly going through some of the stuff I could find on short notice, I can safely say it's as entertaining to read as it was a good year ago. Just as Keira noted, you have a wonderful talent to slowly send shivers down a persons spine through your ability to characterize and detail the minute details of her appearance and mannerism, perfectly illustrating the encroaching feeling of unease and dread pouring off a relatively fragile looking being. Her manner of speech, from when she was still capable of such, always felt like a great platform another could play off of with in regards to doubting her motives or intentions, regardless of the sincerity of her words, which further added to the stressful air surrounding any interaction with her.

In other words, keep on trucking and doing you.

Having finally written with you in the Skirmish I am extremely pleased to say you have proven a great writer. You're very fair and take your hits (being the one who just 'Darth Malak'ed' you).
I love your art, and you're an all-round good writer to talk to.

9.5/10
Would maim again. :p

What Scotchman ([member="Valiens Nantaris"]) said.

I've only written with you in that thread about taking down Cthulhu and the skirmish, so my insights into the char and your writing is obviously limited to those two. However, it was a very fun experience in both.

Creepy, insidious spider is a good way to describe Matsu. Truth be told, her use of Sith sorcery was one of the inspirations for an alt of mine (Sumiko Tanaka). I'm not sure about what motivations Matsu has, though that should be fun to find out. It's fun to have a malevolent darksider who, far as I know, isn't motivated by things such as 'conquer galaxy' etc.

Speaking from first-hand experience, you're very fair in duels.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? I've written with you across many characters, but Matsu was the original and still the core of what encapsulates you as a writer - wonderful descriptive writing, vivid imagination and absorbing visuals with your words and dialogue....well, your PREVIOUS dialogue.

:)

Just keep up what you're doing because every thread with Matsu feels important, nothing ever seems wasted and she's constantly developing, above and beyond what you can expect. It's been a wonderful journey seeing her as a naïve girl with aspirations for greatness to now see her commanding un-dead armies and being 60% cyborg! And importantly? It's all been natural to see and very real to read.

But of course I'm going to say this, I'm bias. Sue me. Let me hand over to the one whose opinion is the one that matters.
