- Matter-to-Energy Converter - Located at the very center of the Matter Pull Cannon is a highly unique particle accelerator, capable of making a tiny yet powerful black hole for a millionth of a second. Apon a lever being pulled, two atoms are thrown at eachother at hyperspeeds, which then collide at such force that they twist around each other, forming a rift in space, known as a black hole. The convertor is calibrated to only be active for a millionth of a second, before deactivating, pulling the atoms apart. The Converter has potentially infinite uses, as long as atoms remain present.
- Great Devourer - The Matter Pull Cannon sucks all but the strongest of alloys within a kilometer radius of the cannon into an extremely powerful vacuum. Entire enemy divisions can be wiped out in an instant, with the matter inside of them being turned into an energy beam powerful enough to wipe out whatever remains of the enemy formation. When absorbing massive quantities of matter such as the exteriors of military bases or capital ships, the resulting beam can rival superheavy turbolasers in power.
- Artillery Strike - While the Matter Pull Cannon's initial suck has a radius of only a kilometer, its beam can easily cover five to ten kilometers before dissipating.
- Bulletproof - The Cannon is entirely made of ultrachrome, meant to protect the weapon against its own pull. But the Matter Pull Cannon's extremely durable armor also gives it the amount of protection a corvette with High defenses would normally receive, requiring multiple strikes from enemy artillery to disable the MPC.
- Indiscriminate - The Matter Pull cannon will pull in anything within a kilometer radius of itself, and is therefore incapable of being fit onto any module or ship not made of ultrachrome or a similarly strong material. Additionally, when used on the ground without repulsorlifts, it will suck the soil and rocks beneath it, instantly creating a massive sinkhole that can disable the cannon if it lands too hard.
- Untested Strength - It is very hard to determine how powerful the beam from the Matter Pull Cannon is before it is released, so the gunners have to be conservative with what they believe they can strike. The only consistent theme has been that greater amounts of denser matter lead to more powerful blasts.
- Delayed - The great deal of power required to charge and fire the weapon nesseciates a reload of nearly three minutes, allowing an enemy a great deal of time to regroup and flank the weapon.
- Limited Grasp - Due to the nature of the MPC's black hole, and the extended reach offered by the initial sucking of matter, there are certain metals capable of negating the MPC. Heavy layers (~1 meter at thinnest) of beskar, phrik, cortosis, or other similarly strong metals and objects inside them are not affected by the MPC.
- Self-Inflicted Wounds - Due to the constant strain on the MPC from the black holes generated within, its ultrachrome plating is greatly weakened compared to the unaltered material. Additionally, the MPC has a limited duration of between one and three thousand shots before it melts down, necessitating that the cannon is only fired when absolutely nessecary.
Matter has been converted into energy since the beginning of time. Fat is burnt away during exercise, and food fuels the bodies of nearly every species in the galaxy. With the beginnings of science, coal was burnt to provide heat to houses and power to ships. Eventually, oil and natural gas became used as well, both being burned or absorbed to fuel nearly every machine in society.
As species became spacefaring, plasma evolved into the new fuel. It is converted into energy that now fuels countless quadrillions of ships in the galaxy. Nearly all ranged weapons do the same, converting some sort of projectile's stored contents into a lethal dosage of energy.
But only now has the technology come to transfer matter directly into energy.
The Matter Pull Cannon (MPC) was part of a two year project to create a weapon capable of turning nearly anything into a projectile. Countless prototypes and variations were created, from colossal vacuums to guns with kilometer-long bowl barrels. But at the end of the project, a unique model was chosen over all else.
The MPC uses the very fundamentals of quantum physics to create a microscopic black hole for a mere millionth of a second. Even such minimal exposure required a full design of ultrachrome to prevent the weapon from instantly destroying itself.
It was discovered that nearly all matter, organic or artificial, within a kilometer radius instantly disappeared when the Cannon was charged.
A millionth of a second later, the black hole would disappear and all of its energy would be released at once. The interior of the MPC focuses the energy into one hole, its barrel. Then, a brilliant stream of energy bursts out of the Cannon, with a maximum recorded strength of twenty-five times that of a superheavy turbolaser, all in a gun the size of a small corvette.
At first, the interior of the Cannon was made of basic durasteel instead of ultrachrome. However, it was quickly realized that the weaker durasteel components would vaporize the moment the weapon charged, as well as its operators. Consequently, the entire MPC was constructed out of ultrachrome, with no less than a meter of it between the operators and the space where the black hole would be generated.
The Matter Pull Cannon requires a crew of five. The five crew members consist of a driver, gunner, aimer, observer, and engineer. The driver moves the MPC through the battlefield, while the gunner initiates both the sucking an firing actions. The aimer ensures the gun is positioned to eliminate as many enemies as possible, while the observer's primary role is ensuring the MPC has absorbed as much matter as possible. The engineer is serviced to make emergency repairs should the weapon become damaged or break down.
Due to the extreme dangers and still researched side affects of using the MPC, only five have been produced so far, each at great monetary and physical expense.
