- Bulwark: The Matthew Lucerne, like many other mon calamari-designed warships, has multi-layered shielding as well as the unusual Starlight Scutum-series Shield System, which makes it a very durable warship capable of withstanding great punishment.
- Fast: Like other Keelkanas, the Matthew Lucerne has been designed from the ground up to be very fast, having a noticeably higher than normal mass to power ratio, giving it excellent speed that often allows it to run down smaller vessels at sublight speeds.
- Fewer Small Craft: Like other Keelkanas, the Matthew Lucerne dedicates more of its internal mass than normal to engines, leading to a necessary decrease in hangar space.
Named after Lucerne Labs's original founder, the Matthew Lucerne is one of the most eminent warships operated by Lucerne Labs's corporate "security" fleet. Typically assigned to guard the company's large underwater factory complex on Voss, the Matthew Lucerne is unusual in that it has been modified to operate underwater too thanks to the use of a Starlight Scutum-class Shield System to help protect against pressure and aquatic life as well as Magnetohydrodynamic engines to allow it to quietly glide through the watery depths. Other modifications include additional shield generator networks and the replacement of the spectrum lasers with hypervelocity cannons. While the Matthew Lucerne spends much of its time lurking underwater on Voss, it does sometimes appear among other warships within the Directorate fleet, tending to be a sure sign that Lucerne Labs has a personal stake in whatever engagement the star defender finds itself in.
